I watched a documentary of a 151-year old man on a national television this morning. The man hails from a village in Anambra state. He's still having a good eye sight and his favourite foods are pounded yam and semovita, said his wife. However, he doesn't and has never taken alcohol since birth. He has also outlived many siblings and friends. And is popularly referred to as the oldest man in Anambra state.

This morning, I was wondering about the extinction of the naira coins. The coins are not in circulation and the CBN still insists that they are still parts of our currencies. Why do you think you think the coins are not in circulation? However, this post is not aimed at showcasing the deficiencies of the CBN nor the Presidency.I need your Opinions please.... |

Many times I do wonder as a Christian if jokes are acceptable as part of Christian behaviour because I haven't seen any verse in the bible that supports that. Some jokes can be offensive and people reacts in different ways, so one would not be able to ascertain if the other individual is angry. Also, some jokes can be amusing;but we Christians uses jokes during dialogue. Pastors in the house, what are your opinions. |
Few weeks ago, people were happy to see the cost of GoTv Entertainment decoder reduced; the promo price as announced by Multichoice was #2,900 but agents and distributors selling this decoders, sells for #4,500. The story is #2900 for decoder and #1600 for gotenna. However, #2900 would cater for the complete package as advertised on gotv website. Why is it that organized crime is so common in Nigeria? An example of one of this agents selling it in EKITI is Signal Strength Communication at Ajilosun area in the state capital. Multichoice should take note of this. |
Dear Government, the world is a new global village. The internet access is wide in terms of users. And on a platform like this, a place to state opinions relating to various topics mostly showcasing the deficiencies of our government- the agencies, ministries and departments. The internet has been putting the government into trouble because things regarded as classified knowledge are widely known across the globe. Nigerians are intellectual and would express their opinions on matters of public interest. The time is coming at hand when the citizens will not believe anything you say...mockery behind doors and even to your face. you've made the country a place where things don't work. Always make things work. BE WARNED! |
Few hours ago I was reading one of the national dailies and I came across a headline stating the roles of the Nigeria Police as an agent of organized crime. "Police is your friend" and "Bail is Free" are common tag you will find in any Police station nationwide. But what I know is "Bail is NOT FREE!" anywhere in Nigeria. bail goes as high as N50,000 and I'm sure the IG is aware that bail is not free. In one word, all agencies of the government extorts Nigerians including the defunct NEPA, UNIVERSITIES, WATER CORPORATION, MINISTRIES, IMMIGRATION SERVICE, even RECRUITMENT SCAMS and lots more. "Having sex regularly can do more than make you feel closer to your partner—it can actually make you physically healthier," says Hilda Hutcherson, M.D., a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Columbia University and author of Pleasure: A Woman's Guide to Getting the Sex You Want, Need, and Deserve. Check out a few of the surprising perks you can reap from great sex . Less Stress If you're freaking out about tomorrow's job interview, slip between the sheets. Research from the University of the West of Scotland reveals that people who had intercourse at least once over two weeks were better able to manage stressful situations such as public speaking, says study author and psychology professor Stuart Brody, Ph.D. That's because endorphins and oxytocin are released during sex, and these feel-good hormones activate pleasure centers in the brain that create feelings of intimacy and relaxation and help stave off anxiety and depression, says WH advisor Laura Berman, Ph.D., an assistant clinical professor of ob-gyn and psychiatry at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and author of It's Not Him, It's You! You don't have to climax to net the effects, but you'll get the biggest surge of soothing hormones if you have an orgasm. Just one more reason to shoot for a stellar finish! Sounder Sleep It's downright dreamy how an O can lull you to sleep. That's because the same endorphins that help you de- stress can also relax your mind and body, priming you for slumber, says Cindy M. Meston, Ph.D., director of the Sexual Psychophysiology Laboratory at the University of Texas at Austin and coauthor of Why Women Have Sex. Plus, during orgasm, the hormone prolactin is released. "Prolactin levels are naturally higher when we sleep, which suggests a strong relationship between the two," she says. But if you're wild in the sack, take note: Highly active sex can make you feel more energized than sleepy. Sex should never be a snooze, but if you want to use knocking boots as a sleep aid, skip the acrobatics and opt for a subdued session. Minimized Pain Talk about flipping the script: "Yes, tonight, honey—I have a headache." The surge of hormones released after an orgasm can help ease any annoying ache, whether it's a strained back or a head pounder, says Meston. A study conducted at the Headache Clinic at Southern Illinois University found that half of female migraine sufferers reported relief after climaxing. "The endorphins that are released during an orgasm closely resemble morphine, and they effectively relieve pain," says Meston. Have a migraine but your man isn't around? Self- medicate by treating yourself with some solo sex. As long as you hit your peak, masturbating will have the same soothing effect. Fewer Colds There's nothing sexy about sneezing, wheezing, or that runny-nose look. But getting hot and bothered can help you avoid coming down with the sniffles: People who have sex were found to have higher levels of an antibody called immunoglobulin A (IgA), according to researchers at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania. These antibodies help combat diseases and keep the body safe from colds and flu. Save up your sick days and use them as sex days! A Youthful Glow Get busy to get gorgeous: In a study conducted at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital in Scotland, a panel of judges viewed participants through a one-way mirror and guessed their ages. Those who were enjoying lots of nooky with a steady partner—four times a week, on average—were perceived to be seven to 12 years younger than their actual age. Regular sex promotes the release of hormones, including testosterone and estrogen, which can keep the body looking young and vital; estrogen has also been shown to promote soft skin and shiny hair, says Meston. Move over, moisturizer—time to turn back the clock with some shagging. Lighter Periods (with Fewer Cramps) "When a woman orgasms, her uterus contracts and, in the process, rids the body of cramp-causing compounds," explains Meston. The increased number of uterine contractions can also help expel blood and tissue more quickly, helping to end your period faster, she adds. Going horizontal while menstruating has also been shown to help decrease the risk for endometriosis, a common condition in which uterine tissue grows outside of the uterus, causing pelvic pain and sex that hurts, according to researchers at Yale University School of Medicine. Sex during your period may not sound too appealing, but don't stress over making a mess. Just lay down a dark-colored towel and stick to missionary; when you're lying down, your flow tends to be lighter, says WH advisor Michelle Callahan, Ph.D., author of Ms. Typed: Stop Sabotaging Your Relationships and Find Dating Success . A More Toned Bod Sex counts as cardio ! A romp can burn anywhere from 85 to 250 calories, depending on the length of the session (obviously a quickie will be less strenuous than an all-night pleasurefest), says Meston. In fact, cardiologists consider sexual activity comparable to a modest workout on a treadmill, according to a study published in The American Journal of Cardiology. Not only will your ticker get a workout, but you'll also squeeze in some sculpting: " Your abs and the muscles in your back, butt, and thighs get a good workout as you thrust during sex," says Hutcherson. Looks like you have a pretty good reason to skip spin class on Sunday morning and work up a sweat in bed. |
Director of Defence Information, Defence Headquarters, Abuja, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade, has said that he is facing difficulties and frustration on his job as the military spokesman. Olukolade, who described the present phase of the ongoing war against Boko Haram insurgents as a “trying period,” accused some unnamed journalists and security analysts of giving him tough times. Lamenting his frustration on Twitter on Thursday, the defence spokesman claimed that managing the information portfolio of the armed forces has come with a lot of “pains” as many security analysts and journalists falsely attribute to him military pronouncements that never emanated from his office. He explained that it was “depressing” for him to watch and learn on a Lagos-based television station on Thursday morning, that he denied the re-designation of Gwoza, a town in Borno State, as an Islamic Caliphate by the Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau. According to him, rather than make comments on the takeover or otherwise of Gwoza he had simply insisted that the territorial integrity of Nigeria was intact. He said, “One major source of pain and frustration with regards to information management in this trying period borders on journalists and analysts, attributing to me or the military, pronouncements that never emanated from us with a view to enriching their stories and pointing at non-existent contradictions. “Quite often, this is done to discredit us or to challenge our personal and corporate integrity and indict the military. For instance, I purposely refrained from saying anything about the presence of the terrorists in Gwoza and Damboa, other than assuring Nigerians that we will not concede any portion of Nigeria to terrorists. “I also said their (Boko Haram’s) claims over territories are empty. I then wonder why analysts insist I denied that terrorists were in Gwoza. Hearing it repeated on television this morning (Thursday) is indeed so depressing.” Wondering if some Nigerians were being misled by fraudsters operating bogus social media accounts in his name, Olukolade stated that the only social networking site he makes use of is Twitter. Soliciting support for the members of the armed forces in the war against terrorism, Olukolade listed the official digital media channels of all the military services, and asked Nigerians to discountenance any information that cannot be verified on such platforms. Warning that he does not operate a Facebook page, Olukolade explained that his Twitter handle, @ GenOlukolade , is the only online channel he deploys in engaging with and updating Nigerians on details of the war against insurgency. “I am not on Facebook or any other social network other than Twitter – @ GENOlukolade . Please, pay attention. The Defence Headquarters’ official Twitter handle is @DefenceINFONG , while the DHQ blogs at defenceinfo.mil.ng. “The Nigerian Navy tweets @ NigerianNavy with a blog presence on navy.mil.ng. The Army and Airforce blog respectively at army.mil.ng and airforce.mil.ng ,” Olukolade added on Twitter. Meanwhile, Ahmad Salkida, the Maiduguri, Borno State-born journalist widely reported to have strong ties with the Boko Haram, has said that it would be difficult for the Federal Government to negotiate an end to insurgency, with the terrorist group. The 40-year-old freelance journalist, who had since relocated to the United Arab Emirates, argued that what Nigeria needed was a “professional military” that would successfully quell the insurgency. “It will be more difficult to negotiate with Boko Haram today. Nigeria needs to move to a position of strength from that of weakness to even do that. When you are talking from the position of strength and not weakness as it is, it’s likely you can determine the outcome of any negotiations. “Mistakes were repeatedly made that emboldened Boko Haram to be ambitious. However, today’s biggest challenge is beyond the release of prisoners and compensations. The way out of this crisis is to improve our military, since negotiations have eluded us. A military solution by a professional army is crucial.” The reporter, who now works as an import and export agent of agricultural products and textile materials, insisted that Boko Haram insurgency was beyond politics. Advocating a “deep and sustained” bipartisan strategy to resolving the security crisis, he expressed sadness that there had not been an accurate assessment of the insurgency by the service chiefs and political leaders. “The All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party should please play politics with anything but not with lives. None of you can sponsor Boko Haram as evident in your inability to even manage your parties well. “The sooner we get rid of our pride, arrogance and hate, and properly diagnose the crisis, the sooner we can find solutions. For God’s sake GEJ (President Goodluck Jonathan) doesn’t need to feed an insurgency that kills and maim thousands of Nigerians just to remain the President,” Salkida added. |
Airplanes are a very convenient way to travel, but not every individual is delighted to travel 37,000 feet high up in the air. It is natural for people to feel a little insecure about traveling in airplanes but there are many ways by which you can help control that overwhelming feeling. Having the right information can help you understand why airplanes need to travel that high up in the air and that this is not a thing to get anxious about. A cruising altitude refers to the altitude at which the aircraft shall spend most of its flight. This is exactly the altitude where the plane shall level out after taking off. Not only does this altitude allow the plane to fly more efficiently but it also prevents the chances of meeting other aircraft in the air. Although airplanes cruise at a wide range of levels and there are several factors that determine the cruising altitude of a plane. Cruising altitude for different airlines may vary between 25,000 feet and 40,000 feet. It is also not uncommon for an aircraft to change cruising altitude several times if it is a long journey flight. Every flight has a certain optimum cruising altitude which would depend on the weight of the aircraft. In this article we help you understand the various factors which determine the cruising altitude to give you a better idea about it. And also why it is more beneficial for the plane to fly high up in the air rather than, down below. It can get scary for people to realize that they are up among the clouds but there are certain reasons why planes need to fly high in the air. Here below are the factors and reasons why the aircraft has to travel high up in the air: • The air in the earth’s atmosphere becomes thinner as the altitude increases. When the air becomes thinner, it offers less resistance to objects flying through; this is why less thrust is required to move the aircraft. This in turn, helps the aircraft fly more efficiently. • Altitudes are defined in relation to number of feet above sea level. Pilots need to aware of the terrain over which they are flying. For example, twenty thousand feet may be suitable for southern Florida but it may not be the same if the aircraft was flying over mountains. • Cruising altitude would also depend on weather. Pilots receive weather reports and request alternate cruising altitude from air traffic control to avoid air turbulence. • The length of the flight also plays an important role. The cruising altitudes for short flights are usually less as compared to the cruising altitude for longer flights. • Flying too close to the clouds may make it hard for the pilot to see and cross winds may lead to air turbulence. • Flying low means more bug and insects on the wind shield which again can make it hard for the pilot to see in front and reduce visibility. • There is less friction at higher altitudes, less friction and higher air speed causes engines to burn less fuel therefore it improve fuel efficiency allowing the airplane to travel further. • Also, at higher altitudes, the air is less dense, therefore the aircraft can run more effectively • Best fuel efficiency occurs when the plane gets into the mid 30’s + • High altitude means less power is needed to propel the plane and at 40,000 feet the engines are just above idle power. These were just some reasons why aircrafts travel high up in the air. So you know now, that this is nothing to be worried about; good airlines take all safety measures to guarantee you have a safe and pleasurable trip. And even though you may be high up in the air, do not forget that the pilots operating the plane are experienced and know everything there is to be known in order to help you reach your destination at the earliest without any inconvenience. Facts emerged on Tuesday that electronic fraudsters had been duplicating Automated Teller Machine cards belonging to Nigerian bank customers and using them to buy items worth millions of dollars from shopping malls in the UnitedStates. Top officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria told our correspondent that the development had made Nigerianbanks and their customers to belosing millions of naira to the e-fraud. The development, it was learnt, had become so overwhelming and that top executives of the banks and senior officials of the CBN had to meet with a team of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission operatives led by the director of operations in Abuja on Tuesday. According to sources close to the meeting, the banks are seeking the assistance of the anti-graft agency to help in arresting some of the fraudsters who are using the duplicated ATM cards in the US. From the outcome of the meeting, the EFCC is set to collaborate with a sister agency in the US in order to effect the arrest of some of the electronic fraudsters. The source disclosed, “Banks have been losing a lot of money to electronic fraudster cartels who are using customers’ ATM cards to fraudulently buy items across shopping malls in the US. “Normally, customers should bear the loss but because banks don’t want the issue to come to the public so that the use of ATM cards will not be discouraged, they settle those customers by paying the money.” Asked how the Nigerian ATM cards are being duplicated and used in the US, a source close to the development explained, “In Nigeria, we use chip and PIN, but the US still uses magnetic stripe. So, what those fraudsters do is to get the details of a customers’ ATM card, duplicate it and then go to shopping malls and start using it to buy items. “When they are using the PoS in US shopping malls, all they do is to swipe the card and then payment is made. They don’t need to put any PIN. Through these, items are bought using Nigerian ATM cards.” An EFCC source, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, confirmed the meeting and noted the anti-graft agency was set to work with the US government to arrest the fraudsters. A top official in one of the top banks said the incidence of electronic frauds had been on the increase and the development was a source of worry to bank executives. It was learnt that most of the frauds were being perpetrated in connivance with some bank officials. The official recalled that prior to 2010 when Nigerian banks were still using magnetic stripe for ATM cards; the issue of using Nigerian ATM cards fraudulently abroad was prevalent. However, when the banking sector migrated to the chip and PIN system, the problem stopped. “However, the frauds have started again now in a new form of Nigerian ATM cards being duplicated and used abroad. The incidence is becoming very high now and something has to be done urgently to arrest the trend,” the banker added. Analysts have said that the increasing incidence of electronic frauds may affect the growth of the cash-less Nigeria initiative. The Deputy Governor, Corporate Services, CBN, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, recently said at a conference that the incidence of fraud involving bank officials had been on the increase. Adelabu, who is a former Executive Director of First Bank of Nigeria, linked the increasing frauds in the banking sector to several issues, including the banks’ poor recruitment procedures and failure to prosecute workers involved in fraudulent activities for fear of reputational risk. The Chairman, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, Lagos branch, Mr. Abolade Agbola, linked the high incidence of electronic frauds to lack of integrity and poor staff conditions in the banking sector. “When you see the fraud that happens and the trillions of transactions that take place daily, then I think the banks have to take the technology ahead, take the staffing ahead and then create a future for the members of staff so that they can know that they have a future in the organisations and that they can build a future,” he said. |
The CBN reintroduced the ATM charges which was abolished sometimes ago. It's threatening in the sense that #65 would be charged after 3 withdrawals in a month. This is another definition of organized crime in the banking industry. Do the banks expect customers to withdraw thrice a month? Nairalanders, what are your reactions? |
The newly launched E-Passport as announced earlier by the Federal Govt. should be a 64-page document and for #20,000 for applicants above 18 years and #7,500 for applicants below 18 years. Drama ensued yesterday as I got to the immigration service in Ekiti State and I was asked to pay #27,000 for standard passport. I was shocked when people were paying it. After payment, people were issued 32-page passport. This is a scam! This country is doomed. Interior Minister, I wish you are reading...It's awful. |

The National Youth Service Corps on Wednesday urged employers of labour to always verify NYSC discharge certificates presented by employees to ensure that they actually participated in the scheme. The Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Johnson Olawunmi, said this when he featured on the News Agency of Nigeria forum. Adewuyi said dubious elements in the society had taken advantage of the importance of the certificate to issued fake ones. He said, “It is true that sometimes in the past, in the immediate past, we’ve had activities of what we call fake camps. “But what I want us to understand is that in the country as we have those who are good citizens we also have those who are bad citizens. “You all know that the NYSC discharge certificate is very key in whatever you do after graduation. “If you want a job you must submit it. In fact it is compulsory. “Know that no employer should employ somebody without the NYSC discharge certificate. For those that want to go into politics it’s also very important. “And, because of the importance of this discharge certificate you and I know that some people will go to any length to get it. “When they know that they are not qualified they look for alternative means.” He, however, said that measures were in place to stop such fraudulent activities adding that NYSC had established a department to verify discharge certificates for employers. He said, “I want to commend the management of the NYSC scheme because they’ve put measures in place that have made it very difficult if not impossible for anybody to get a certificate from the scheme when he’s not qualified to have it. “So when people meet this kind of brick wall the only option left for them is to go elsewhere, form their own camp and get whatever certificate they want to get. “Let me cease this opportunity to tell all employers of labour, all agencies of government, public and private sector that the NYSC has a department for certification. “If you are employing people, after the recruitment, just forward all their discharge certificates to us and we will verify them so that we know those that are genuine and those that are fake. “Also, I want to say that with the plan to have an online registration in place it is one other way we are going to eliminate the issue of fake corps members.” Olawunmi added that the NYSC kits were not substandard as is being suggested in some quarters but that the scheme could only afford to give out one set of kits per person. He said the kits got worn out on time because of constant use and not because they were of low quality. |
