The man accused of opening fire at a Kansas business and two other locations, killing three people and wounding 14, has been identified as Cedric Larry Ford, 38, according to two law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation.
Harvey County Sheriff T. Walton and several employees said the shooter was an employee at Excel Industries in Hesston, the principal target of the shooting spree. Paul Mullet, the president and CEO of Excel Industries confirmed earlier the gunman was a current employee at the company, which manufactures heavy duty lawn care equipment, but did not mention him by name.
Ford was shot and killed by police during a gun battle with officers, officials said. Police have not officially identified him.
Walton did not cite the motive for the shooting, although he said "there were some things that triggered this incident."

A 97-year-old California woman is fighting a 60-day eviction notice from the home she has lived in more than two-thirds of her life.
Marie Hatch moved into her home in Burlingame, California, around 1950, her attorney, Nancy Fineman, told ABC News.

The two-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage she now shares with an 85-year-old roommate was owned at the time by Vivian Kruse, a friend who Hatch says made her a promise that she could live in the home for the rest of her life.
When Kruse died in 1980, her daughter, Beatrice, kept her mom’s promise to Hatch until she died in 2005, according to Fineman. Hatch’s cottage, along with the home next door, then became the property of Beatrice’s daughter, Pamela.

Pope Francis insisted Thursday that abortion was always a crime but hinted that the Church could exceptionally relax its ban on contraception for women at risk of contracting the Zika virus.

But he added: "Avoiding a pregnancy is not an absolute evil."

A nearly intact medieval shipwreck has been hauled from the frigid waters of a Dutch river.
The boat was likely deliberately sunk by maritime engineers more than 600 years ago in an effort to alter the flow of the Ijssel River, an offshoot of the mighty Rhine River that flows through six European countries. The trading ship sailed at a time when the Hanseatic League, a group of guilds that fostered trade across Europe, dominated the seas.
"The fact that we were able to raise the Ijssel cog [a type of wooden vessel] in its entirety and in one attempt is a fantastic achievement by the entire team," lead maritime archaeologist Wouter Waldus said in a statement. "The shipwreck can become a symbol of our rich maritime history, and I fully expect many people, both young and old, to be amazed by and start enjoying this

On Tuesday morning, police in Fairfield, Connecticut, shot and killed a 51-year-old father of three who allegedly non-fatally stabbed and slashed his wife and three children.

According to Connecticut State Police, a call came into Fairfield's dispatch center from the home of Christopher Andrews, an attorney who worked in New York City.

The female caller asked for help, and officers were dispatched to Andrews' home. When they arrived, Andrews was standing in his front yard with his son, who was wielding a baseball bat defensively.

A federal court in Sao Paulo has blocked Barcelona striker Neymar from using almost $50 million worth of assets -- including a yacht, a jet and properties, officials told Reuters on Tuesday.
The move was taken as the 24-year-old Brazilian is accused of tax evasion between 2011 and 2013.
The court froze 188.8 million reais ($46.7 million) in assets last September but Neymar had been free to use those assets until now. Officials also corrected the amount to 192 million reais ($47.5 million).
"Official documents were sent to several entities such as port authorities, offices that register properties, and civil aviation authorities (so that Neymar no longer has use of these assets)," the judge said in a statement sent to Reuters.
