Oyigbo was part of East Central State after the Biafra war in 1970, then in Old imo State until 1976 when it was ceded to Rivers State.

Arochukwu including Abam, Ohafia areas were too powerful those days.
But they were not organized maybe after the British defeated them. They were only interested in trade and not in conquering territories.
