Motorcycle Operators Union Celebrates Second May Day .......Recounts Successes By Bassey Endurance The Leader of Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN) in Akwa Ibom State, Cde Udoewah has recounted the successes achievements of their Union in the last one year and six months of existence as a labour Union in the State and Nigeria. Comrade Emmanuel Udoewah disclosed this on Thursday during the Workers Day Celebrations to mark the 2025 edition of the International Labour Day at the Uyo Township Stadium. In his words he disclosed thus: "There is so much progress that we have made, the mammoth crowd of motorcycle Operators here at the Workers Day Celebrations shows the level of cooperation among us". "Also, the cooperation and support from the State Government, the Ministry of Transport under the watch of Hon. (Dr.) Anthony Luke further makes it easier. The administration of His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, PhD has given us so much support and a level playing ground to carry out our operation in the State through the Honorable Commissioner for Transport". "On the aspect of progress of our Union compared to when we got registered as an Affiliate member of NLC over one year and six months ago when we started we were not much as these but we now have registered members that have surpassed sixteen thousand and five hundred (16, 500) across the 31 Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and I believe that by next year this time the number would double . "On the managerial aspect we have been a able to lead the affairs of the Union properly and it's a thing of pride for me to lead the Motorcycle Operators down here to take part in the workers day Celebration and as you can see the mood and feelings here there's much excitement and it's looks like Christmas day for all the workers in the entire world " "So therefore MOUN is joining other workers Internationally to send a shout out to other Workers on this years May Day Celebration", He submitted. Also, the Secretary of the Union Cde Monday Essien Essien also expressed his own satisfaction at the level of progress recorded by their union in the last one year and six months of existence, "the large turn out of motorcycle Operators to this occasion proofs to the fact that MOUN is a very big union in Nigeria". He recounted other achievements to include "Creating awareness Campaign for all the Operators to know that they have a Trade Union which is the reason you are also seeing even female members because this is a union that is made up of both owners and Operators of Motorcycles". He further disclosed that "the approval by the Federal Government of Nigeria for the Motorcyclist to be coordinated through aTrade Union has been really rewarding and helpful in organizing the members as he also disclosed that it has paid off as crimes among the bikers hitherto is curtailed compared to when you used to hear about people using the motorcycle to carry out criminal activities so by the advent of this union we have been able to bring all operators and owners under one fold and with such development it's easier to checkmate their activities and also investigate any criminal element and hand such individuals to the appropriate Agencies of Government for prosecution", He stated.
