The truth is that whatever skill you pick up, upgrade it and learn more about it.
I learnt how to program and develop websites while in school, from there i got a
job in 300 Level and worked there for about a month, and focused on freelancing
now that am out of school i still got another job which am now leaving to focus
full time on creating web applications and developing mobile apps for startups and
small businesses. The point there is learn a skill that can make you self employed.

even some Nigerian paid ones are quack
my experience with smartweb was really very not good.
I use syskay.com now and it has never failed me since then.

guys lets pause and think for a moment, the hack must have really taken it's toll
on Mr. Seun, up until it happened i never believed that a Nigerian website could be
target for hacking. This just shows how far we are now going into technology.
and with the good sides, comes the ugly side. Username changes would have been
done to check codes in strings of usernames so as to make them only aplhanumeric.
If your username change, sorry o but wetin u want make Brother Seun do ?
He can start changing every single person's user name back.

I am a graduate of computer science, and am a web and mobile app developer.
While i was in three hundred level i worked for a company and after my graduation
i got a job with another company. Though i am leaving now to focus on my startup and
do more freelance. But you know the funny thing is that i have never written a Job
application letter in my life before (i swear!) all the Jobs i got contacted me via

so am asking does one really need that certificate, i have worked for two (not small) companies
without my degree but with my skills. I begin to question the wisdom of going to a university
to study computer science in Nigeria.

I think web development has been pretty well for me, though it has had it tough times.
With the right marketing and a strong devotion to quality, there are enough
opportunities in Nigeria, even as we speak the amount of web developers who
actually write code (not designers) can't even cater for the service required
now adays everyone wants to start an ecommerce site.
as a self taught web developer and mobile apps developer of over 3 years now i think
the future is bright for us all cos this thing is new now in Africa.

I think the major problem to online business in Nigeria is a lack courier/post culture. I also think Nigerian developers should embrace the bigger picture i.e when building a product, don't think of the Nigerian market alone except you are building Enterprise apps.

I think as a developer, you have to focus on the Nigerian market. Let's face it. what idea
do you want to come up with that has not yet been implemented in the western world ?

I have been stranded without working ATM/Visa cards and made flight bookings by phone on Wakanow. I know of at least two other people who make use of Wakanow too regularly.Its not just a web biz any longer. Besides the paid vacation trips they market most definitely give them steady cash.


@sarutobi. That kind of funding comes from SV.

CCHub Lagos got funded by Pierre Omidyar.
Iroko TV got funded by a swedish VC recently ( to the tune of $2m).
Same thing, Encipher (Produced Nigeria's first android tablet).
PagaTech too got funding from Pierre Omidyar too.

People are doing good stuff and getting funded. Thats what we all aspire to. Lets not be blinded by the Nigerian situation.

If your product's tight and capable of repaying the funds, foreign investors will ignore the environment and fund you. let's all work hard and someday it might be your turn.
