CareerRe: G.i.s Geographic Information Systems by ujem(m): 11:40pm On Feb 25, 2008
A Geographic information system(GIS) is a computer system used for capturing, storing, analyzing and querying geographically referenced data.
This geographically referenced data separates a GIS from other data information systems. To fully understand the nature of geographically referenced data
take an example of a road to properly describe a road we refer to its location i.e where it is and its characteristics e.g its length, name and direction. It's location is called the geometry or shape and is the basis for the geographical reference and is also known as spatial data whereas its characteristics are refered to as attribute data .Hece a road like any other geographically referenced data has these two components.

A GIS requires the following components to wrk with geographically referenced data:

A Computer system: On which the GIS software is installed

GIS Software:the program and user interface used to manipulate geographically referenced data

Brainware: Refers to the purpose and objectives that justify the use of GIS

Infrastructure: Refers to the necessary physical organizational,Administrative and cultural enviroments that support GIS operations

Creating a user is very easy u can either do this via the sql*plus prompt by running this syntax:

sql> create user (username)
identified by ,

where username is the name u intend to give the user u are creating

, contains the password by which this user would be identified

or via the oem(oracle enterprise manager console) following these steps

launch oem>databases>specific database(where u want 2 create d user)>security>users>create user

there is no need to alter the sid (system identifier to do any of the aforementioned steps)
goodluck.
