Red-Light:how about the police angle? the bail money joke? is it not real? is it proper? Anyway the outburst on the thread is actually cos most people responding did not read the report in question and some were bold enough to confess so and can be excused for their responses, having said that, l can say that yes, the report is actually targeted at investor and other stakeholders in that industry, so it is not any reason we should be abusing ourselves. While l agree with the school of thought here that there is an opportunity in the report, it will be so difficult to overlook the harm these maladies are doing to businesses in our environment. Yes few smart investors are scaling the huddle successfully, but think of the greater opportunities that will be available both in entrepreneurship and white collar opportunities. Several reports in the past has harped on Nigeria's potency to become goldmine (our population), but it will remain potency until our government seriously put machinery in place to address literacy level (through freer access to education), Power supply, legal system, etc. Then, you will discover how beneficial reports like this controversial one could be. Please don't abuse me if you don't like my opinion, just say what is wrong with it otherwise l go chuk hand inside ur eyes. |

All users are structured to use the system equitably courtesy Fair Access Policy (FAP), thereby eliminating situations where 10% users will make internet experience of 90% others miserable. And so where you have variations, the deviation from the quoted speed will be minimal, like the speed l posted earlier on 2mbps system, l am still waiting to get a speed test on a 10mbps site to update this thread with then you can give your verdict. |

There's no contention ratio per se. It is not a share of bandwidth as we know it, rather a share of spot beams. So it can work as 1:4, 1:5, 1:10 etc. Giving good and reliable internet. You can have lower contentions. |

Sorry if l seem to be dodging the question, l feel you are not the only one reading this thread and guess some people may not understand the term you choose for your question. But if the question is as simple as Shared or Dedicated, then it is Shared Service. |
tunde300us: What is the contention ratio of this yahsat stuff.I notice it is not statedIn computer networking, the contention ratio is the ratio of the potential maximum demand to the actual bandwidth. The higher the contention ratio, the greater the number of users that may be trying to use the actual bandwidth at any one time and, therefore, the lower the effective bandwidth offered, especially at peak times. The "contention ratio" is the maximum number of other people you will have to share the connection infrastructure with. So a contention ratio of 50:1 would mean that the maximum number of people you could be sharing the connection with at anytime is 49 other people. If all 50 people were downloading at the same time then your download speed could drop hugely, in reality though this doesn't happen and you can enjoy much faster download speeds. - Ka-band technology opens the door to fresh and exciting Nigerian Broadband markets - Can offer an affordable and quality broadband service in the un-serviced and underserviced rural areas of the Country - Can install broadband and VOIP in one day in the coverage area - Voice friendly and enjoy quality of service - The service is not limited by contention ratios like ADSL |
Hope to upload a speedtest shot of a 10mbps site soon. |

are u for real? can u state the real terms of this loan offer. |
abohrandy: i saw free download somewhere? and whats wif d data cap? dat 1,5GB is what i can kill in one day!! so sup wif dat? There is Free downloads on the network between the hrs of 1am and 6am (outside whatever datacap u have on ur plan), secondly you won't be able to simply exhaust your dataplan in just a few minutes because of Fair Access Policy (FAP), rather u will be trottled until u reset by switching off ur modem for 24hrs. It is hard to see normal browsing of internet kill 1.5GB in one day, except for a combination of browsing with downloads of movies and stuff like that. So your activity in that direction will affect other users on the network during normal hrs and that is the reason for structuring the service that way. |
brightk: is yahclick good 4 a cybercafe of up 2 10 systems (thin client)... i had wanted to use mtn hynet but its not available. i intend using the router packages of airtel or glo. just dat i am afraid of d bandwith cap. vsat c band is very expensive. even ku band offered by some isp are very slow..With thin client, you have choped updates for maintenance to a 1/10 of usual volumn for 10 systems cafe, and that is a headstart. With a good hotspots software manager, you can also streamline ur bandwidth and assign higher fee to activities relating to heavy downloads (movies, music etc) from ur network during normal hours and encourage others to use your night browsing services for heavy downloads(free downloads Out-of-datacap btwn the hrs of 1am and 6am). That way you will be able to manage your bandwidth which is a major concern for anybody who uses our network. But be rest assured that speed is not a problem here because you can have upto 10mbps on the downlink which comes with a datacap of 80GB for N31,500. |
