More update from UNIBAJA; Lecturers of the University of Abuja have dragged the Governing Council of the university to court over the appointment of the new VC. According to the lecturers the Candidate appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of the institution happens to be the third best among the candidates that were considered as professor Umar Danbatta scored 87%. Professor AbdulRaheem Adebayo Lawal scored 73% while the appointed VC, Prof Michale Adikwu scored 64%. Dr Raji Rasheed, Dr Muktar Muhammad and Dr Nkoli Ifenyi remarked that the appointment of professor Adikwu, a professor of pharmacy from University if Nigeria Nsukka didn’t only ignore merit, but the newly appointed VC also happens to be professor of Pharmacy a course which is not currently offered by the institution. The university Senate, the Registrar, the Pro-Chancellor, Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, the National Universities Commission (NUC), Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia, and Professor Michael Omale are all included in the suit. Report reaching us has it that the 2014/2015 University of Abuja post-UTME Screening exercise scheduled to hold on 22nd and 23rd of this month has been postponed. The federal government has declared Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th July 2014 as public Holidays to celebrate the muslim feast of Eid-el-fitri. This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the minister of Interior, Abba Moro. He urged Nigerians to seize the opportunity of the holidays to reflect on the imperative of peace in nation building. |
