Someone should pls help me out here. I plan for my younger sisters to register jamb and D.E this year. They have successfully registered for jamb but D.E registration is now a problem. Even after using separate SIM, we are unable to generate a profile code for the D.E as the reply is saying that " the NIN number has already been used for another SIM"... This literally means that we should go and generate another NIN number seperately for D.E registration which is impossible as I have never seen a single individual with two NIN numbers... This country just tire me wallahi
you can change the utme to direct entry but registering for the two is not possible

Politics › We Recovered $153m, 80 Houses From Diezani -EFCC by unity004(op):
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it recovered $153 million and 80 houses valued at $80 million from former Minister of Petroleum Diezani Alison-Madueke.

EFCC Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa stated this in the April edition of the EFCC Alert, a monthly publication of the commission.

Bawa said the commission was still pursuing another case of $115 million INEC bribery by the fleeing minister who had been outside the shores of the country since leaving office in 2015.

He noted that efforts were ongoing to extradite Alison-Madueke to answer to her crimes in the country.

“There are several cases surrounding Diezani’s case. I was part of that investigation, and we have done quite a lot. In one of the cases, we recovered $153 million. We have secured the final forfeiture of over 80 properties in Nigeria valued at about $80 million. We have done quite a bit on that,” he said.

“The other case, as it relates to the $115 million INEC bribery, is also ongoing across the federation. We are looking forward to the time we will, maybe, have her in the country, and, of course, review things and see what will happen going forward. The case has certainly not been abandoned.’’

In 2019, a Federal High Court in Lagos had ordered the final forfeiture of the former minister’s jewellery estimated to be worth $40 million to the Nigerian government.

The EFCC seized the jewellery sets during a raid on Alison-Madueke’s home located at 10 Fredrick Chiluba Close, Asokoro, Abuja, on the suspicion of being acquired with proceeds of unlawful activities.

The anti-graft agency alleged that she started acquiring the jewellery in 2012 while she was already a serving minister.

In challenging the seizure, Alison-Madueke said the EFCC violated her fundamental right to own property.

According to her, the search of her home that led to the seizure was conducted without any court order, hence making it illegal.

Jewellery forfeited included: 419 bangles, 315 rings, 304 earrings, 267 necklaces, 189 wristwatches, 174 necklaces and earrings, 78 bracelets, 77 brooches, and 74 pendants. A customised gold iPhone was also forfeited to the government.

In 2017, Justice Chuka Obiozor of the Federal High Court, Lagos, ordered permanent forfeiture of N7.6 billion linked to Alison-Madueke.

Justice Obiozor, in a separate suit, also ordered the permanent forfeiture of $37.5 million Banana Island mansion linked to the former minister.

Crime › Hiny Umoren: How I Escaped Being Raped, Killed By Akwa-ibom Serial Killer by unity004(op): 9:55am On May 12, 2021
A job-seeker resident in Akwa-Ibom State, Blessing Godwin, has narrated how she was also lured to the same place where Inibong Umoren was raped and killed.

Miss Umoren, 26, was allegedly murdered by Frank Akpan, whom the police said has confessed to being a serial rapist and killer.

Mr akpan had invited the recent UNIUYO graduate for a job interview at Airport Road, Ibiaku junction on April 29, but that was the last heard of the deceased until her corpse was found 48 hours after.

The gruesome killing of the job-seeker had sparked reactions from prominent Nigerians and groups across the country who have continued to demand justice.

The police promised to arraign the suspect as soon as the courts resume from their nationwide strike.

However, Ms Godwin, another unsuspecting victim of Mr Akpan, on Tuesday, told PREMIUM TIMES that she was invited for the same interview, scheduled for the same venue, but could not honour the invitation because she was far away.

Her telephone number was one of the numbers extracted from a Newswire publication. The online newspaper had earlier published the details of Mr Akpan’s call logs obtained from a mobile network provider.

An analysis of the leaked data showed Mr Akpan was putting calls across to Misses Umoren and Godwin sequentially.

“Around 1.17 PM on April 29, Frank Akpan placed a call to Hiny Umoren, which lasted for 124 seconds. It is fair to extrapolate that this was a call where he gave directions to her regarding where she should go for the purported interview. At 1.21PM, he then placed a call to a Blessing Godwin, which lasted 147 seconds. Was he chatting up another potential victim of the same job interview snare? It is impossible to say for now,” the report read.

Premium Times has reached out to Miss Godwin. Narrating how she was almost snared by Mr Akpan, she said she had applied for a job a day before the proposed interview.

“I saw a job advert online, the previous day (April 28) for a hotel job. I have forgotten the name of the hotel. So, I applied for it since it was online. They said accommodation will be provided and the rest of it and I needed the job. So, I applied for it.

"The next day (April 29) in the afternoon, the number called me and said that they saw my application. I said ‘Yes’. He said could I come to Airport Road? That there is a farm there and I’m to work in the secretary office.”

Miss Godwin said Mr Akpan had informed her that knowledge of computer operations was an added advantage, of which she responded that she might be rusty because it has been a while she operated a computer set.

“I said I would have loved to come but I was not in Uyo but my local government (Ibeno). He said what I should do is to send my CV and save his number as Ezekiel,” she added.

Ibeno local government area, according to Google map, is over 60 kilometres from where the suspected killer was.

Ms Godwin said she was surprised and sad when she came about the story of the deceased on social media. She also prayed for the repose of her soul.

Politics › Shoot-on-sight Order In South-east Is Declaration Of Genocide -Igbo Group by unity004(op): 3:59pm On May 11, 2021
An Igbo group of intellectuals and professionals worldwide, Nzuko Umunna has written an open letter to the Nigeria's Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, that the shoot-on-sight order given to the Army troops in the South-East was an attempt to wipe out innocent citizens.
The group stated that if such a command was true, it is the same as a declaration of war against the people in the area, adding that the Army Chief should have publicly announced if there is a war between the region and the military personnel so that innocent people could vacate the environment. The group stated that if such a command was true, it is the same as a declaration of war against the people in the area, adding that the Army Chief should have publicly announced if there is a war between the region and the military personnel so that innocent people could vacate the environment.

This was contained in the letter signed by Dr. N Odumuko and Dr. P. Mbanefo, and made available to SaharaReporters by Barr. Austin Okeke on Tuesday.

Nzuko Umunna wrote the letter in reaction to a warning given by a Nigerian soldier a few days ago that the troops had been commanded to shoot civilians in Orlu, Imo State as the military fights operatives of the Eastern Security Network.

"We feel duty-bound to inform you that there is palpable fear over a shoot-on-sight directive reportedly given to Army troops in the South-East in recent days, a scheme for which new batches of men were moved over the weekend.

"By some accounts, this directive seems to have been given unofficially in a hush-hush manner, making the situation all the more ominous.

"A shoot-on-sight directive is tantamount to an order to extrajudicially exterminate innocent citizens as there is no telling who might be part of the collateral, unintended casualties.

"Throughout history, such military strategies or policies have always run the risk of going contrary to all accepted conventions and protocols on the rules of engagement, particularly the Rome Statutes

"In fact, it can be read as genocide where as in this case, there is clear and evident danger of such action resulting in high casualties.

"If the speculation of a shoot-on-sight order were to bear any atom of truth, then it amounts to a declaration of war on the area. However, even if, for any reason, the Federal Government is minded to declare war on the South-East or a part of it, there are standard international conventions and protocols that must be observed.

"One of such is the requirement to publicly and unambiguously declare that a war situation has arisen in such a place so that those who wish to, especially the civilians and innocent citizens, can withdraw from such a place. That has not been done," the letter stated partly.

The group, further, urged Attahiru to put the public in the know about the shoot-on-sight order and reverse it if in any case it was issued, to restore peace in the region.

"But it is our well considered contention that there do not exist in the South East of Nigeria any peculiar situation which does not exist in even worse forms in other parts of the country to warrant or justify such a Shoot-On-Sight order. And we put whoever thinks to the contrary to the strictest of proof.

"Based on these, our position is that it is in the overall interest of the country that you use your good offices to not only clear the air on this very disturbing issue but also counter any such directive in case it has, by some fluke or stroke of overzealousness, been issued.

"We most respectfully urge you to use your good offices to intervene, as a matter of urgency, in this very critical matter to douse the tension and apprehension in the region arising from rumours and the expectation that the killings and unnecessary waste of human lives will escalate.

"We are by this letter bringing this properly to your notice with the hope you will take preemptory action," the letter added.

Politics › Boko Haram Distributes Ramadan Packages, Cash To Borno, Yobe Residents (photos) by unity004(op): 12:51pm On May 11, 2021
Militants from the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād have distributed Ramadan welfare packages to some residents of Borno and Yobe states.
SaharaReporters gathered that the package distributed by the insurgents included rice, beans, millet, maize, sugar, spageheti and cash gifts.

A security source said the gesture was to induce the villagers to join the group’s ranks as militants. “Imagine, they (insurgents) claimed that the gesture was aimed at assisting villagers to perform Ramadan fast and Sallah with ease and happiness, the same villagers they killed their friends and family members,” the source said.

A 2019 report by the International Crisis Group, a non-profit think tank, observed that ISWAP’s approach to recruiting new fighters proved effective.

Despite breaking away from the Abubakar Shekau-led Boko Haram faction in 2016, the population of its fighters had roughly doubled those of the latter according to estimates.

“Although its leadership has been largely ethnic Kanuri, ISWAP has recruited significantly among lacustrine communities, notably the ethnic Buduma, many of whom earn a living from fishing,” the group wrote.

The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) has made similar observations.

“As part of this approach, the ideological aspect of the crisis must be dealt with. The ability of the group to recruit is one of the biggest reasons for its expansion, and so a deeper understanding of its recruitment patterns and operating mechanisms is crucial,” ISS senior researcher Remadji Hoinathy warned in May 2019.

Often ISWAP exploits gaps in governance by trying to prove that it can provide essential services in the areas under its control.

Politics › Troops Avert Deadly Attack On Worshippers At Katsina Mosque by unity004(op): 12:35pm On May 11, 2021
What could have been a bloody attack on worshippers at Magama Central Mosque in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State by bandits, have been averted by troops of 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, the Military has said.

The heavily armed bandits targeted the locals who were observing the late night Ramadan prayers.

In statement by the Director Army Public Relations Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, the bandits came in large number, shooting sporadically but were repelled by a joint team of troops and policemen deployed to the town based on credible intelligence about the attack.

According to the statement, the fleeing bandits however attacked another mosque at the outskirts of the town where they abducted worshippers.

But it added the troops pursued the fleeing bandits fleeing and rescued some of the victims after a heavy gun fight.

The statement reads: “Troops of 17 Brigade Nigerian Army in conjunction with personnel of the Nigeria Police Force averted a planned attack by armed bandits on Magama Central Mosque in Jibia LGA of Katsina State where several locals had gone to observe the late night Ramadan prayers.

“The incident which occurred in the early morning hours of 10 May 2021 witnessed a large number of bandits who came firing sporadically in an attempt to distrupt the prayers and abduct innocent worshippers were forced to withdraw in disarray as they were met with overwhelming firepower from a combined team comprising troops and police personnel who were tactically deployed in the town following earlier Intelligence received on the planned attack.

“However, while the troops maintained vigilance to forestall further attack on the mosque, the fleeing criminals whose main intent was not actualised while retreating decided to raid a local mosque at the outskirts of Jibia Town where they kidnapped some persons.

“On getting the information, the combined team mounted a pursuit on the bandits, forcing them to abandon most of the hostages while fleeing with an unknown number.

“The rescued victims have since been reunited with their families while further efforts are ongoing to rescue the others in collaboration with neighbouring military establishments including those of Niger Republic.

“Late night prayers are very common among the Muslim faithfuls particularly in the last days of the Holy Ramadan season. The situation in Jibia is under control as reinforcements have since arrived the area in order to facilitate the rescue efforts.

“The local inhabitants are advised to go ahead with their normal business and report any suspicious activity to the security agency nearest to them”.

Politics › EXCLUSIVE: AGF Malami Plots To Cover Up N91billion Stolen By NNPC Directors by unity004(op): 12:24pm On May 11, 2021
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) is yet at the heart of another major fraud concerning some directors at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation who stole and diverted more than N91 billion public funds into a commercial bank.
SaharaReporters learnt that the AGF is plotting to sit on the public funds which the directors currently have difficulty in pulling out from the bank, First Bank, and which was blown open by a whistleblower.

SaharaReporters obtained a formal correspondence from the AGF’s Office, dated April 14, and titled, “Complaint/Whistle-blowing in respect of concealment of funds by some First Bank officials and some federal civil servants at First Bank” and signed by Ladidi Mohammed, Head, Asset Recovery and Management Unit on behalf of AGF, Malami.

The document confirmed that the N91 billion is related to the NNPC Exempted Accounts from the Treasury Single Account.

The AGF letter, HAGF/ARMU/W.B.TC/2020/I, addressed to one Tahir Chambers, Kano, Kano State, where the whistle-blower believably emanated from, reads, “I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of letter dated, September 22, 2020, on the above subject matter. Please recall that following the meeting held on April 12, the office of the AGF wishes to advise that the information under reference is related to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation exempted accounts from the Treasury Single Account.
“Accordingly, the Federal Ministry of Justice is unable to engage the services of Tahir Chamber in this regard.”

Top sources told SaharaReporters that the AGF is plotting to rather cover it up and divert for personal use, hence his “inability to act upon the whistle-blowing request.”

“The NNPC directors siphoned N91 billion into First Bank. Malami wants to basically steal the money. They (the directors) are having challenges to pull the money out,” a source revealed.

Meanwhile, the N91 billion now seems to be out of the reach of the fraudulent NNPC directors. SaharaReporters, however, learnt that there are strong indications that Malami will act fast to divert the money.

Foreign Affairs › Chad Claims Win Over Rebels After President Déby's Death - BBC by unity004(op):
The military in Chad has claimed victory against northern rebels following weeks of fighting.

The conflict against Libya-based rebels threw the country into a crisis when President Idriss Déby died after being wounded on the frontline last month.

The military takeover under the leadership of Mr Déby's son has been condemned by the opposition and civil society groups, leading to protests.

The rebel group says it is not aware of an end to the fighting.

However a victory parade took place through the streets of the capital, N'Djamena, on Sunday, aimed at boosting the popularity of the Chadian military at a time of great uncertainty in the country.
Some onlookers cheered on Sunday as soldiers returned from the frontline in a parade of tanks and armoured vehicles.

At an army base, journalists were shown dozens of people said to be captured rebels.

Chad is reputed as having one of the best-trained and best-equipped armies in West Africa, and is one of the Western-backed "G5" countries fighting Islamist militants in the Sahel region.
The rebel group, Front for Change and Concord in Chad (Fact), crossed the border from Libya into Chad in April to take a stand against President Déby's 30-year rule.

It is not clear if Fact is still a threat to the military junta now running the country, and a spokesman for the group said it was not aware of an end to the fighting, reports the Reuters news agency.

As the BBC's Africa editor Will Ross reports, the public was told a few weeks ago that the rebel group had been defeated - only for the fighting to resume.

In recent weeks protests demanding a return to civilian rule have been violently broken up by the security forces. In the latest of these, 10 people were injured including one person who was shot in the capital on Saturday.

Politics › Fear In Onitsha As Truckload Of Live Bullets Falls by unity004(op):
Residents of commercial city of Onitsha Anambra State have been gripped with fear, following the fall of a truck loaded with live bullets in the area.

The Mercedes Benz 911 truck, which fell along Awka road in the city in the early hours of Sunday, had the cartons of the bullets spill into the drainage when it skidded off the road.

The contents made early morning worshippers to raise the alarm, which attracted the presence of heavy security men who cordoned off the arena

An eyewitness, who does not want to be mentioned, told The Nation the security situation had put everyone on the alert.

It was gathered the truck was moving the goods out of Onitsha to a yet-to-be identified location when the driver lost control and skidded off the road, making it fall into a ditch.
Another source said the truck fell around 5am when the driver and his conductor, after sustaining minor injuries, tried to evacuate and conceal the contents.

“But they could not do much before daybreak when some police operatives arrived the accident scene only to discover the truck was laden with a consignment of live bullets,” a source said.

Anambra Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed there was a lone accident at the spot.

On the cartons of bullets allegedly being conveyed by the truck, he said he had not been properly briefed on the situation.

However, he assured investigation had commenced into the matter, promising to get back to the reporter.

But a Senior Police Officer, who spoke with The Nation in confidence, confirmed the incident.

He added the driver of the vehicle had been arrested and the lorry impounded, adding the conductor escaped.

‘We are going to get to the root of the matter. The conductor is equally being trailed. It’s a very difficult times for everybody and people have to be careful,” he said
