I am not a Christian but any time I hear or sing that song *some have food they can not eat.... * and the one you mentioned.

Such song is for reflection and soul lifting which invariably affect the listeners' decision or activities at that particular time.

Dont forget we can only make reference and comparison to things around us, even far. To appraise ourselves for adjustments going forward.

Truly songs can encourage reflection amd inspire ppl to appreciate what they have, however I think you're missing the point im trying to make.
My point is about the kind of comparisons we make and the message they communicate.

You asked if we should make reference to goats and cows, of course not, we are actually talking about human beings, people with families,dreams and stories of their own. Their suffering and death shouldn't have to become a tool for someone else to appreciate their own circumstances.

My question is simple,must somebody suffer or die before we can appreciate the gift of life? Can't we be grateful for our health, our loved ones, and the privilege of seeing another day without comparing our circumstances with someone else's misfortune?
Can't we encourage gratitude by focusing on the beauty of being alive, the people we love, the opportunities we have, and the simple privilege of seeing another day?

I'm simply saying that we can express gratitude without making another person's misfortune the reference point for our happiness.
Good intentions matter, but so does the impact of our words.

But honestly, you're very correct. I hate it when people say that nonsense. It's so insensitive, especially to some of us who have lost loved ones in very painful circumstances.
You'll be thanking God for the gift of life, then go ahead to make reference to those who died, as if their death is what makes your own life worth celebrating. And when people call them out, they'll quickly add, "It's not like we're mocking the dead ooo."
But let's even look at it this way, if the dead could see and hear us, would they be happy hearing us use their death as a reason to celebrate our own survival? Or if the tables were turned, would they be comfortable with someone doing the same thing to them?
I just feel there are better ways to appreciate life without making other people's death the yardstick for our gratitude. Some things may seem harmless to the person saying them, but they can be deeply hurtful to those who are still grieving.
