Former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina has just collapsed in court during his trial.

The Federal Government is prosecuting Maina in a12-count charge before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

The former pension boss collapsed at exactly 10:05 am when his counsel, Anayo Adibe was making submissions before Justice Okon Abang handling his trial.

Before the collapse of the former pension boss, his counsel was praying the court for an adjournment to enable him get record of the proceedings of the court to enable him prepare for the no case submission he intends to file on behalf of his client.

Lagos: Ojodu LCDA chairman, Julius Oloro in trouble, faces impeachment +His alleged multi-million naira properties in Lagos, Ekiti

These are not the best of times for the chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Hon. Julius Oloro, as he faces impeachment from the council’s legislative arm.

In a letter of notice of impeachment titled: Corruption and Diversion of Public Funds – Impeachment Notice, served on the chairman dated Tuesday, 24 November, 2020, Oloro is accused of several financial misdemeanors which are impeachable offences.

According to the impeachment letter, the councillors took the decision during their plenary which took place on Tuesday, 24 November, 2020.

The Impeachment Notice letter was signed by the following councillors: Wale Saidu, Council Leader; Olatunji Kogbodoku, Deputy Leader; Olumide Akinlade, Majority Leader; Gbenga Opebi, Chief Whip; Iyanda Kazeem, Deputy Majority Leader; and Jemilat Badiru, Deputy Chief Whip.

According to the councillors, Oloro deserved to be impeached because: (1) he violated the Code of Conduct Bureau rules; and (2) embezzlement and diversion of public funds.
We learnt further that Oloro committed the following offences:

(a) conversion of public funds for the construction of a sprawling mansion on Omotunde Akinola Street in Omole Estate Phase 1, Ikeja

(b) diversion of public funds to build a house in Moshood Road, Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti State

(c) diversion of public funds to erect an event centre in Ikere Ekiti

(d) diversion of public funds to put up a chalet on FUTA Road, South Gate, Akure

(e) diversion of public funds to build yet another property in Ikere Ekiti presently under construction

(f) diversion of public funds to build another house on Fayanju Street, off Osho Street, Ikere Ekiti

(g) diversion of public funds to construct a hostel at Oye Ekiti.

(h) continuous refusal to respond to Legislative querries

(I) failure to provide infrastructure for the development of the council

The councillors gave the council chairman seven days to respond to the allegations levelled against him.

Tragedy struck recently in Badagry, Lagos State, when seven students of Araromi Ilogbo Junior Secondary School, Oko-Afo, a public school in the area, got involved in the collapse of a hand rail attached to a building in the school, THE WITNESS exclusively reports. .

THE WITNESS learnt one of the students has been confirmed dead while the other six are under intensive care at the Badagry General Hospital, Badagry town from the incident that happened on Monday, November 9, 2020.

This newspaper gathered that the students were leaning on the hand rail of the two-storey building when the incident happened. We were also informed that the casualty would have been averted if the authorities had responded on time to pleas for them to intervene.

The dead student identified as Rasaq was said to have been referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, in Ikeja due to the intensity of his injury, but the hospital demanded a down payment of a whopping N500,000 (five hundred thousand naira) before treatment would commence.

According to a reliable source who spoke to THE WITNESS, the Lagos State commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo, was contacted immediately the teaching hospital made the outrageous demand but she was not forthcoming. Sadly, the student gave up the ghost before help could come. He was buried on Friday, November 15, 2020.
