UPG Thanksgiving is an annual event that UPG holds to coincide with International Human Solidarity Day. It will hold on Sunday, December 19th this year.
Given the significance of this day to UPG’s mission, we choose this moment to appreciate, to honour and to celebrate the contributions that people and organisations are making towards making the world a better place. And this begins with the UPG Community: we celebrate our “firsts”, our victories, challenges, milestones and the impact that we have individually and as a community. Join us and share your own stories with a community that cares.

The year 2021 came with its own challenges, impacts, and learning curves. As a community we leaned on each other during the pandemic, adjusting to the new normal and building our global community to help make the world better. This year we will be celebrating with a Spanish theme, showcasing our activities, achievements and what you can look forward to in the coming year. This event also provides an opportunity to fundraise in support of UPG’s work and we do in solidarity with you, by giving back through incredible prizes in the Grand Raffle.

UPG Biashara is an initiative that supports entrepreneurs in their journey to turn ideas into businesses. This includes growing and strengthening existing enterprises.

Biashara is a Kiswahili word for “business” and it emphasizes the fact that with this initiative UPG is supporting entrepreneurs and all those looking to create impact through business.

The best part is it is completely FREE for the selected entrepreneurs.

What we are looking for:
Anyone who is running a business or dreams of running a business one day.

Diversity among UPG Biashara Entrepreneurs
UPG Biashara Entrepreneurs include:

- people who are running a business or who have run businesses in the past
- people who have an idea about a business that they would love to build AND people who have NO specific IDEA
- people from all world regions
- people aged 18 years and over on 1 October 2021
- people of different levels of education
- people who have a strong motivation to learn or to learn more about entrepreneurship
- people who believe in UPG’s mission to empower people to make the world a better place through positive action.

Finally this diversity means that everyone stands a chance when we make the selection of the final UPG Biashara Entrepreneurs. Please note that your age is minimum 18 years on 1 October 2021. This ensures that all participants are considered adults for the duration of the cycle, from application to selection and throughout the entire UPG Biashara experience.

Evaluation Guidance:
The evaluation is done by reviewing the following sections of your application:
A. Profile / Background - who are you? This helps us to achieve diversity.
B. Motivation - we want the most motivated candidates
C. Ability - we want those whose ability is compatible with their motivation
D. Business Idea - we want those who are running a business or who dream of running a business one day. You do NOT lose any points if you have no business idea. But if you have a Business IDEA OR an actual business that you are running, then you get EXTRA points. Please note that most financial opportunities will support entrepreneurs with business ideas. Please don't worry, because of what we are looking for (described above), we will also select some people with "no business idea", however your chances are stronger if you are running a business or have a business idea.
E. Expectations - To ensure that we can build the programme and match the candidates that the programme can support.

As part of this application, it is strongly recommended that you submit a short video (maximum 90 seconds) to answer any of the questions from any section above or to tell us more about yourself.

Among other things, the video helps us evaluate your communication skills. You may submit your video by including a link to the video in the application now (there is a section in the application for this). Applications Open for UPG Sustainability Leadership Program 2022 (Fully-funded training to the USA)

UPG Sustainability Leadership is the world’s largest sustainability leadership training and applications for the Class of 2022 are open to young adults, from 18 to 35.

Since 2019 a total of 586 UPG Sustainability Leaders have been certified and have already gone on to impact 14,000+ people in 108 countries across the world through the execution of mini-training sessions on positive action and the Sustainable Development Goals, and also through projects focused on their local communities.

In 2021, a year deeply affected by the global pandemic, United People Global certified 526 UPG Sustainability Leaders from a pool of over 4,000 applicants who received free comprehensive training on leadership and sustainability over a course of 9 weeks. Upon completion of this program, 60 young leaders qualified for a complimentary and free training experience on Hurricane Island in the USA to further strengthen their capacity for positive citizen leadership.

UPG Sustainability Leaders are trained in both the methods and the issues to become ambassadors for positive citizen leadership on sustainability. Several incentives are designed into the application process to enable the Class of 2022 to be as impactful as it is diverse, including encouraging young people who work in organisations that care about sustainability to apply - and many other demographic groups.

Benefits:

• Participants will have the costs of the program covered – Training material. Accommodation, subsistence, local transportation, international flights (a round trip flight from participant’s hometown to the US);

• All 500 participants will receive an online training and will be certified as UPG Sustainability Leaders after completion of the course.

P.S: Visas are not included in the costs of the program, and selected applicants are entirely responsible for covering visas expenses. UPG will send visa application letters to assist with the process (if necessary).

Eligibility:

• Candidates must be 18-35 years of age;

• Candidates must be self-motivated, capable of overcoming major challenges, and able to think outside the box;

• Candidates must be able to read, listen and communicate in English, but no language level certificate is needed;

• Applicants from all nationalities are eligible to apply;

• Candidates from all genders and candidates with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
