I think we need to look at this issue beyond ethnic sentiments and consider the bigger picture. Business, investment, and economic cooperation should not be treated as a competition between the South-West and the South-East.

First, using ports in the South-West does not mean the South-East is the only beneficiary. Ports are part of Nigeria's national economic infrastructure. Importers pay duties and other charges, businesses employ workers, transporters move goods, warehouses store them, and various service providers earn income along the supply chain. Lagos and other host communities also benefit from the economic activities generated by these transactions. The benefits are not exclusive to one ethnic group.

Secondly, whether South-Eastern entrepreneurs are building factories in the South-West is a legitimate question, but it should be answered with verifiable evidence rather than assumptions. Investment decisions depend on infrastructure, electricity, land, logistics, security, market access, and government policies. Businesses should be encouraged to establish productive industries across all regions because factories create jobs, develop skills, and strengthen the national economy.

On the issue of insults and disrespect, I agree that nobody should demean another ethnic group. Calling people hungry, dirty, or inferior because of where they come from is prejudice, not an argument. However, we must also avoid responding to the prejudice of some individuals by condemning an entire region. The people making insulting comments online do not represent millions of people.

You also cannot reasonably demand love and respect from an entire region while suggesting that its relationship with another region should be based on resentment or collective punishment. Respect must be mutual, and accountability must be individual.

If some people in the South-East believe they have been treated unfairly by the South-West, their concerns should be discussed honestly. The same applies to grievances expressed by people in the South-West. But historical disagreements should not become permanent excuses for hostility between ordinary Nigerians who share economic interests and depend on one another in different ways.

The real question is not which ethnic group benefits more from another region, but whether our economic arrangements benefit Nigeria fairly and sustainably.

The South-West needs investment and economic cooperation just as the South-East does. Rather than arguing over who owes whom affection, we should demand fair policies, encourage businesses to invest across regional boundaries, protect local industries, and reject ethnic discrimination wherever it occurs.

You do not have to love everybody personally to treat them fairly. And you do not have to agree politically with another ethnic group to recognise its people's dignity and economic rights.

Nigeria's problem will not be solved by making every region suspicious of every other region. It will be solved when fairness, mutual respect, and economic opportunity become stronger than ethnic rivalry.

You also cannot blame an entire ethnic group for the political views, statements, or actions of Nnamdi Kanu. If his words influenced your perception of an entire people, then it is worth asking whether you are judging people by their individual character or by the resentment you have developed towards them.

Regarding the Chinese, there is nothing wrong with welcoming foreign investors who genuinely contribute to the development of Yorubaland. But let us apply the same standard to everyone. Chinese investors should be welcomed when they create jobs, transfer skills, respect our laws, and support local businesses. The same standards should apply to Nigerians from the South-East, North, South-South, and every other region. Our economic interests should be guided by conduct and contribution, not ethnicity.

You mentioned Awolowo, our elders, and our traditional rulers. Their legacy should inspire us to think critically, protect our people's interests, and pursue development with wisdom. It should not become a justification for looking down on other Nigerians. Respect for Yoruba heritage and respect for other ethnic groups are not mutually exclusive.

And if you believe Nigeria may eventually disintegrate, ask yourself this: if that happens, will hatred make the Yoruba people safer, wealthier, or more prosperous? Or will strong institutions, productive businesses, education, security, and peaceful relationships with neighbouring communities serve us better?

You can love Yorubaland without hating the South-East. You can defend Yoruba interests without discriminating against Igbo people. And you can welcome Chinese investment without giving foreigners a free pass to exploit our economy.

True loyalty to one's people is not measured by how many other people one hates. It is measured by what one builds, protects, and leaves behind for the next generation. If we want a better future for Yorubaland, let us pursue it through wisdom, fairness, and development—not collective blame and inherited resentment.
