Umo Eno Vows To Complete All Road Project Inherited From Past Govts overnor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has reaffirmed his dedication to finalize all road projects passed down from previous administrations. During a press briefing at the NUJ Press Center in Uyo, Commissioner Eno Ibanga, representing Gov Eno, emphasized the administration's commitment to not only complete inherited projects but also those initiated by them. Accompanied by Commissioner Ini Ememobong and Prince Ikim, Eno disclosed that a substantial sum of N208.16bn has been invested in road infrastructure and other development projects since assuming office on May 29, 2023. This amount includes N47.93bn allocated to 36 projects inherited from the previous administration and N4.04bn for 51 emergency intervention projects. Additionally, N151.96bn has been channeled into 61 ARISE Agenda projects initiated by the current administration. The Commissioner highlighted the administration's unwavering commitment to the timely completion of all road projects, stressing that as of October 18, 2024, a total of N208.16 Billion had been expended on both initiated and inherited projects. He addressed concerns regarding the Tabernacle road project, attributing delays to heavy rainfall and assuring that it will be ready for commissioning by January 2025. Furthermore, the Commissioner issued warnings against constructing on waterways, drainages, and right-of-ways to prevent exacerbating flooding issues in the state. He also cautioned against unauthorized alterations to road infrastructure like speed breakers, emphasizing the need to approach the Ministry of Works for any modifications. ................................... 🔥Eno didn’t influence A’Ibom LG election in favour of PDP’ The Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) has denied allegation that Governor Umo Eno influenced the October 5 local government election in favour of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The Commission’s Chairman, Aniedi Ikoiwak, who stated this on Tuesday while declaring open a two-day 2024 post election retreat in Uyo, said that at no point did the governor give directives to him on how the election should be conducted. Ikoiwak, however, admitted that he was under pressure by some powerful politicians to manipulate the election in favour of certain interests but he resisted such manipulations and chooses to deliver a credible exercise. “Compared to the local government elections conducted in other states, Governor Umo Eno did not give us any directives. The governor didn’t call us at any time to say do this or do that in favour of anybody or his political party. “We are not saying we didn’t meet with the governor but it was to request for funds to do certain things in the political atmosphere but certainly not to say this is how and where I want the election to go.So I will say that there was no overbearing influence from the Governor.” On whether political parties tried to manipulate the election, Ikoiwak said: ‘Definitely politicians will like influence the process in their favour but certainly we were not compromised. “Talking about rigging I will say that if you leave election material, the first instinct of a typical politician will be how to carry it for his own interest even if that material is there for him”. The Commission’s Chairman disclosed that individuals and political parties have started going to court to challenge the outcome of the election, adding that it is a process stage in elections. “People have gone to court which is a normal process. I have said that election is in there stages, the pre-election, the election proper and the post election. “At the post-election stage the commission does not have a say because people will assess what you did. People will definitely go to court to challenge the outcome of the election. “People look at the court process is not a setback is a learning process because maybe there are few things that we didn’t do well and the court will say this is how it should have been done”, he said. Ikoiwak explained that the retreat was organised for the Commission to appraise itself on the election with the aim of identifying loopholes for improvements in future election. .................................... ♦️Collaboration, Compliance: PPMC Sets Course for Petroleum Sector Stability The recent actions taken by the Akwa Ibom Petroleum Products Monitoring Committee (PPMC) are indicative of a proactive approach towards ensuring a more stable and transparent petroleum sector within the state. The inauguration of the PPMC by Governor Pastor Umo Eno is a commitment to addressing the challenges that have long plagued the industry in Akwa Ibom. The committee's inaugural meeting, chaired by Hon Godwin Ekpo, has set a promising tone by engaging in extensive deliberations on critical issues affecting the petroleum sector. Furthermore, their visit to the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) in Uyo shows a willingness to foster a collaborative relationship between industry stakeholders and the state government. Hon Ekpo's address during the visit emphasized the importance of partnership and urged IPMAN to refrain from adjusting fuel pumps to deceive consumers. The ultimatum given to erring petroleum marketers and station owners to re-adjust their pumps within seven days is reflection of the committee's commitment to ensuring fairness and integrity in the distribution of petroleum products. The committee's stance against the diversion of petroleum products and the sale of adulterated goods is commendable, as it sends a strong message to those engaged in such activities to desist or face legal consequences. The announcement of plans to dissolve illegal petroleum structures across the state and depots is a significant step towards cleaning up the industry and promoting transparency. The positive responses from IPMAN representatives, including Chairman Comrade Francis Udoeyen and Vice Chairman Evangelist Joseph Eyo, indicate a willingness to cooperate with the committee to achieve common goals. Their acknowledgment of Governor Umo Eno's leadership and the importance of collaboration underscores the potential for meaningful progress in stabilizing the petroleum sector.
