The West African Examinations Council, WAEC has released the May/June 2015 WASSCE results, withholding the results of students in 13 states that are owing the Council. The Head of Nigerian Office, Mr Charles Eguridu who disclosed this at its Yaba Office said:”Out of 1,593,442 candidates who sat for the examinations, only 616,370 candidates, representing 38.68% obtained credits in five subjects and above including English Language and Mathematics.”

Justifying the slight improvement in the results from previous years, Eguridu said that in 2013, a total candidates who obtained five credits in English and Mathematics were 639,760 representing 38.30 per cent. He said, in 2014, 529,425 representing 31.28 per cent obtained five credits in English and Mathemstics.

Meanwhile, Eguridu said that 6 states among the 19 states that are owing the Council have paid their debt, left with 13 states. The HNO who refused to disclosed the names of indebted states explained that he would not want politicians to hijacked the situation against their opponents. He, however noted that if any of the states that are owing can get an advanced payment guarantee from any reputable banks, students results in such states will be released.

“Of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, 758,849 candidates, representing 47.62% obtained six (6) credits and above; 949,862 candidates, representing 59.61% obtained five (5) credits and above, while 1,114,988 candidates, representing 69.97 % obtained credit and above in four (4) subjects. In addition, 1,295,915 candidates, representing 78.81% obtained credit and above in three (3) subjects, while 1,376,743 candidates, representing 86.40% obtained credit and above in two (2) subjects. However, a total of 616,370 candidates, representing 38.68%, obtained credit in five (5) subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

“Candidates who sat the May/June 2015 WASSCE will be able to check the details of their performance on the Council’s results website: www.waecdirect.org within the next 24 hours,” he said.

nice write up but formative evaluation is not testing residual knowledge but its a type of evaluation dat is carried out at every stage of a programme,it goes along wit teaching.like continuous assessments while summative is the kind of evaluation is given at the overall end of a programme.Evaluation is the estimation of the worth of a thing,process or programme,in other to reach meaningful decision about dat thng,process or programme.

Unfortunately school owners are at the mercy of the harsh business environment in the country, these include annual dues to ministry of education, tax issues with IRS, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Commerce, LASAA, Local govt dues, Fire service dept, cost of running the business, salary, generator maintenance, bus maintenance, competition, social responsibility to the community etc.

Instead of blaming school proprietors and small business owners, I think they should be appreciated because the job opportunities provided by them. I know a number of High Net-worth Individuals who have N500 million and above invested in the stock market, creating wealth for themselves alone, rather than setting up businesses that will employ you and I.


My brother please see yourself as the MD/CEO of Me, Myself and I Incorporated. Get the necessary experience, knowledge and business strategy from your boss or Proprietor and move on to greater things. I believe your experience as a teacher will make you a good manager of resources.

Some of my colleagues who started as teachers about 20 years ago are now school owners, educational consultants, bank managers, IT professionals, Oil and Gas workers, successful entrepreneurs, University lecturers etc. Just look at the big picture and be focused on the bigger picture.

Demand for job is quite higher than supply, I once posted a vacancy for the post of a science teacher and I got over 100 responses as a matter of factor 6 other candidates applied from Ghana and India. When our leader create opportunities in the economy there will be more job openings thereby creating choices for young Nigerians.

But if you must start a labour union, I will advice you use your energy and resources to establish your own business and you will never regret it.
