Family / Re: Ikoyi Marriage Registry: Info Needed! by Veeme: 10:23pm On Jul 03, 2015
Hi guys,
I am UK citizen and my partner Nigerian. We want to get married in Nija and want to know does it have to be a in a federal court like Ikoyi or can it be in court registry such as Ikeja?
Also, in Ikoyi, the registrar said that the cost is 65,000N for a foreigner to get married, is this true? My partner did question this repeatedly because we have read on here people saying its much less but the court official wouldn't budge!!
Many thanks,
V

He should stick to the truth and explain that he got wrong advice.

Lying about a divorce then producing take certificate then a 'fake' child since that was part of the lie. He would then say he's married to you and prove your relationship which would have been ongoing whilst he was supposedly married. Its a slippery slope. Too many lies to cover up.

Sounds like he was desperate to get of Nigeria not to see you. What was the rush you could have visited him and spousal visa be done.

They know he lied and he may already have the ban.

When you guys get married officially then he can address the lie in the spousal application.

Thank you Salsera for your response.
We have been together for almost 3yrs and meet up in India so I think he is actually interested in me. We could have lived in Nigeria but I don't want to. I want to be close to my family and to work in UK. I did visit him in Nigeria and had an accident where a drunk driver ploughed into the restaurant where we were sat and smashed my head open!
We applied for UK general visa as I wanted him to visit me and meet my family before we got married but it seems now that marriage is the only way he can come here.

Obviously the lies wouldn't help the situation but getting married is the right thing to do. Listen to the immigration lawyer at your own peril.

Yes you are right he needs to come out clean and stop the chain of lies.

Thank you just wise

Hi guys,
please help....
My partner in desperation to get UK visa to come and see me went to get some advice and stupidly was advised to say that he was married in Nigeria and that he had a child. The guy advising him said this was the only way to get a visa as proof of his return to Nigeria.
I am so angry with him as visa was refused anyway and now what to do?
We want to get married, probably in Nigeria and then reapply for a spouse visa.
I told him he has to tell the truth that he was not married but he is terrified that if he admits he lied, that they will ban him for 10yrs.
An immigration lawyer is advising him to continue with the lie and get a 'divorce' certificate.
I don't like the idea of this and think he should just come clean.
If we get married, will this lie stop him from coming the the UK?
Thank you

Can you list the documents he submitted and his salary scale?

Hi, hope Im doing this correctly, couldnt see where to just reply....
Average monthly income N200.000, but can be more if good month.
He submitted letter from Lawyer and I also asked the Home Office in London for a review.
He had previously submitted 6mths bank statementsand business documentation including tax details and certificate of incorporation.
He has also submitted a letter detailing the ill health of his elderly parents (he travels to his village every 4-6wks to help them), the fact he owns property in Naija etc.
The reasons given for refusal were paragraph: 41(i)(ii)(vi)(vii).
Many thanks,
Vee

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has asked for a review of a visa refusal to the UK and how long it took? Whats the chances of success?
My partner had his visa refused three times now and each time for very different reasons. The general theme though is they doubt on probability that he will return to Naija!!! How to prove that?
He has seen a lawyer back home and I have asked the Home Office for a review.
Thx guys....

Yeah we're gonna try again but still I dont understand cos the docs were all in date at time but they replied after over two and half months!
My bank issues statements end of month but I dont receive it until around 7-10 of new month then have to get everything together and post to Nigeria which takes another 5-10 working days.....
But does it sound hopeful?
Has this happened to anyone else?
I still would like to know how they can give this reason when docs were fresh more than two and half months ago... aarrrgghhh!

Hi worry359,
thank you so much for your reply. As far as I know it simply stated that he will need to reapply as my documents were out of date. The documents, bank statements etc were for the previous 6mths. He applied on 6th June and docs were for previous 6mths. Someone from embassy called me same week he applied and I confirmed our intention. He only just heard last fri that it was refused. I dont understand how they can the docs are out of date when they were in their possession?
I will try and get back to you with exact details but my partners father has been taken ill and he has travelled to see him so will be a few days.....

Hi Vicjustice (sorry if not spelt correctly), or anyone please...!
Please excuse my ignorance Im a newbie...
Im really hoping you can offer some advice as you seem to be very knowledgable about visa's.
Im a British citizen and my partner of almost 2yrs is from Nigeria. We met in India 2yrs ago and have spent
2 seasons together there and I visited him in Nigeria. We wish for him to come and see me and my family here
in UK but his visa (visitor), has just been refused. The reason they gave is that they said my documents are out of date,
despite the fact they have had the documents for over two and a half months! It doesn't make any sense....
What should we do? Im wondering if its best to appeal (if we can), or if he just submited new application.
Any advice greatly appreciated, Im real stressed undecided
Many thx V
