During the 2019 guber elections, some political forces came together to make sure the Apc candidate Dapo Abiodun won and became the governor of Ogun state. The state was turned to a battle ground, because the Governor at the time Gov. Ibikunle Amosun favoured the Apm candidate Adekunle Akinlade while Vice President Yemi Osinbajo favoured Abiodun. The ruling party broke into two factions and their power tussle turned very violent and some party faithful's on both sides lost their lives. The governor at the time Gov Ibikunle Amosun had the ears of the President Muhammud Buhari, even though he was able to secure 3 senate seats and some house of rep seats in the Apc his candidate Adekunle Akinlade lost the primaries to Dapo Abiodun. Dapo Abiodun won the primaries because he had the vice president Yemi Osinbajo, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the former governor of Ogun state Gov Olusegun Osoba and the last joker which was the Apc chairman comrade Adams Oshiomole in his corner. At the time Amosun was the Apc senatorial candidate for Ogun central,so what he did was to move all of his structure that did not win their apc primaries to APM political party. With his closeness to the president he felt he could still install his candidate through another party.During the Apc governorship flag off Gov Ibikunle Amosun brought Apm members to the venue to meet the president. All hell broke loose, because the Apm members started throwing pure water sachets and objects at the APC hierarchy while the President was on the stage. To say that the former governor and current senator Ogun central Ibikunle Amosun is close to President Buhari is an understatement, because as of today Ogun state has 26 federal appoints while Apc has 2 and Apm has 24. Olamilekan Adegbite who is the Minister of mines & steel was the commissioner of works under amosun and a APM member.Adewale Ogunyomade who served as special adviser for Rural Development an APM member has just been made a new board member of the Federal Inland Revenue Service to represent the South-West. Amosun used his closeness to the President and his power as the governor to really intimidate Dapo Abiodun and his followers. To make matters worse Ladi Adebutu the PDP house rep member remo constituency who is the first child of Kessington Adebutu aka Baja Ijebu renowed Business man asked all of his followers to support Gov Amosun's candidate Akinlade of the Apm.At the time Ladi Adebutu was the governorship aspirant who won the primaries held by the Pdp but Senator Buruji Kashamu was able to use the courts to win the ticket. So with Ladi's help who also comes from the same federal constituency as Dapo Abiodun was what Adekunle Akinlade needed to cross the finish line. People tend to forget that in 2003 when Gbenga Daniel won the Pdp governorship ticket,Dapo Abiodun came in second. So once Gbenga Daniel became the candidate he pulled all the candidates that contested against him together and they all worked to deliver the state to Pdp which was AD at the time. As things were looking down for the Apc candidate, do not forget that Dapo Abiodun and Gbenga Daniel were still friends even though they were in different parties. Dapo needed Daniel's help, but how do you ask the DG to the Pdp presidential candidate Abubarkar Atiku to support you in the Apc. So Daniel made a decision on this point, for the past 8 years amosun has been a torn in his neck,Ladi Adebutu who is the party's official candidate could openly support buhari's man and give amosun support with everything amosun has been doing to him and his followers. The Vice Chairman representing southwest in Pdp was hand picked by Ladi Adebutu,so if ladi could support the enemy without punishment or reprimand then he also can play that game. Daniel's open support gave Dapo the needed edge to win the election. Daniel's structure went to work, just days to the election and Dapo abiodun was able to win by a slight margin. Without daniel's help Adekunle Akinlade of Apm would be the governor today. It also shows why the presidency prefer to deal with Senator Ibikunle Amosun than with Gov Dapo Abiodun. What is surprising is that Gov Dapo Abiodun promised to run an inclusive government to cater to the factions that worked to deliver his candidacy, When he released his transition committee list,it was very inclusive with members of different party's but, when he released his commissioner list all the names were Apc members.I now remembered how the Governor of Oyo state Seyi Makinde made other party members commissioners in his cabinet, due to their contribution during the elections. The Governor of Ogun state needs to buckle up and let people know that he is a man of his word. Say what you mean and mean what you say. |

Since the suspension of the ifako ijaye chairman by the Lagos state house assembly, some of the other local government chairmen have been running helter skelter, not to suffer the same fate. It seems all is not well in Apapa local government, because Mr Elijah Adele who is the chairman was recently invited by the EFCC and ICPC. It seems the commission has also visited the council and are still doing their investigation to ascertain certain facts. Since the invitation by the commission the chairman is claiming to be empowering fictitious people with 100,000 naira per person. The local government roads are terrible,no visible projects to show and you decide to give money away to people nobody can identify. Others will tell you they were given 5k, while other groups will tell you they got 10,000 naira. So who are the masses collecting 100,000 naira. The other disturbing issue is that while Mr Elijah Adele is the chairman, the former house rep who is the immediate chairman of the council Mr Ayodeji Joseph always comes to the council on a daily basis as if he is still the chairman of the council. Ikoyi/Obalende LCDA and some other local governments are also on the watch list, It seems most of the chairmen are doing money empowerment to justify how the funds are spent. If they tell you they gave 200,000 people 100,000 naira each how do you confirm it,when the money is paid in cash. We shall wait and see what will happen next. Mr Elijah Adele the chairman of apapa local government did his empowerment program yesterday the 18th during which he gave 160 people 100,000 naira each. We were told he saw our earlier write up above, complaining about who were the ghost people receiving the money he said he was giving the community. So what he did was to do a program brochure with all the pictures of the 160 people and they were paid the money at the council in front of the apapa community. The people of Apapa Lga should thank the EFCC & ICPC because without them, the chairman would not be giving out this money which is to justify his spending. We also found out that chairman has refused to buy official cars for the Vice Chairman and SLG because they do not like the way he is running the council. While the counsellors and other political office holders have been given official cars.

If they tell you they gave 200,000 people 100,000 naira each how do you confirm it,when the money is paid in cash. We shall wait and see what will happen next.

The Lagos house of assembly suspended the ifako ijaye chairman and some council staff for financial impropriety within the LGA.I hope this development will filter to other LGA's, because we need to sanitize the way some of these chairmen do business. In the past, the chairman will tell you that the reason things were slow or not moving were lack of funds from the state government. They will say we barely have enough money to pay salaries, talkless of even funding projects. With the mandatory 30,000 naira minimum wage, most of the chairmen have started to complain about the lack of funds. Ever since the Federal Government have started to pay the allocations directly to LG council coffers, the chairmen have turned the money to their personal hedge fund. The state of LGA roads are worse than, when the allocation was paid directly to state government. Most chairmen and their vice are at loggerheads because of transparency concerning how the money is spent. While the chairmen are buying houses abroad, buying bigger cars, the living conditions of the people within the LGA worsen. I really commend the Lagos House of Assembly for this move, because it will put fear in some of the chairmen and curb some of their excesses. Mr Elijah Adele who is the chairman of Apapa LG council while in London at the time, used council funds to send most of the political office holders and followers to Ghana, because he was to receive an award by an association in that country. While people in the LGA were crying about the state of the roads that is causing gridlock and also the decrease in spending power, the chairman was busy moving the whole apapa LGA to Ghana so they can see him collect an award. Mr Fuad Atanda Lawal is the chairman of Ikoyi/Obalende and his official cars including his hilux is in the tune of over 40 million naira. If you also include his private cars, then you can move the figure to like 90million.While his vice is 10 million for his official car and he has another car he privately owns worth around 1.5 million.Ever since the federal government has started to pay directly into LG council coffers, the chairman has moved to Glover Rd Ikoyi while the Vice chairman still lives in the house he was living before he became Vice Chairman. Mr Rasak Ajala is the chairman Odi Olowo/ Ojuwoye LCDA he runs the council with an iron fist,He spends at will and his Vice chairman is not consulted in anything he does, especially when it comes to spending of money. The irony of this issue is that Rasak Ajala was once the Vice chairman and everything he is doing to his vice was what he was complaining about, when he was the vice chairman. We can't keep blaming the federal government and state government without holding our LGA chairmen accountable, because they are the first tier to the masses.Since they are now receiving direct allocations, then the masses with their LGA should also feel a direct improvement. The Efcc and the house of assembly should make sure the money is used to better the life of the constituents. |
