LiteratureZion Rufus’ Diary Of A Lagos Girl Ep7 Catch All New Episodes At Www.lingoafrica. by Veronica617(op): 3:09am On Feb 12, 2019
Cheii!” I exclaimed. The thought of getting tattoos crossed my mind.

“Home training no go gree me o” I said out loud. I heard Ruthie’s footsteps, she was coming down the stairs into the major living room. It was our third day in the Five-bedroom Duplex of our ‘New catch’. We met Mr.Bami at the Ikeja City Mall, it was sheer coincidence. Did I say coincidence? Nah! It was more like ‘luck’.

The previous week, the last straw broke the horse’ back when we all saw another bae on Timmy’s Instagram story; Ruthie therefore made up her mind to let go of her non-call-picking-lying-cheating-sneaky-ass boyfriend. Hard as it was, we all agreed it was high time she moved on. It was a long night of moping, reminiscing, crying, suicidal thoughts, and drinking.

The following morning, we decided to take her to the mall. New hair, New clothes, spa treatments, Movies and ice cream at noon, pizza and whiskey at night. We had our bath, dressed up, ordered a cab, and straight to the mall. First stop was the spa. Full body treatment, mani-pedi, and, a massage. Next stop, shoe store.

Mary exclaimed when she saw the $225 tag on a Louboutin red bottom heel. A man laughed. I turned to look. I judged he couldn’t be any less than 35years old. His hair was nicely cut, cute watch, lovely shoes, and his suit was well tailored. I saw streaks of white hair on his beard as I watched him pay for the two pairs of Tommy Hilfiger sneakers he bought. ‘Hmmmmmm, not today satan’ I thought to myself. ‘We are here for Ruthie’. I quit staring and glanced through the shelves. The other shoes also fell within the $200-$230 range. It was beyond our budget, because we all wanted a pair.

After much deliberation and compromise, we settled for white Nike sneakers. Gifty’s shoe size wasn’t available, she had feet that complimented her height. Lex stepped out the shop for better reception, she was trying to make some calls. We split the bills and paid for five-pairs of sneakers; They said Gifty’s shoes would be delivered to the house. She wrote down all necessary contact details and we left the shop.

“Did you guys see that man?” Lex asked. She was done with her calls. “What man?” Mary asked. We were on our way to the ice cream shop. “The man on suit. He was inside the shoe shop with us” She pointed. “Yea I noticed him” I said. “What happened? You know him?”. “No jhor” Lex laughed. “The slowpoke was staring at Gifty’s butt the whole time”. “Are you for real?” Gifty laughed. Mary wasn’t laughing, she shrugged.

Ruthie who wasn’t laughing either and took her phone from her. “What’s wrong” We were worried. “She was going through Timmy’s Snapchat again” Mary explained. We truly felt sorry for her. She deserved more. Ruthie had always been a ride or die. She was at his beck and call whenever he needed her. Throwing all caution to the wind and investing her entirety in a 5year old relationship. Loving him more than she loved herself. Paying more attention to him than her own life. Her mistake. No one is perfect, but self-love is paramount.

Mary unlocked the phone and opened the Snapchat app. Blocked him. Instagram. Blocked him. WhatsApp. Blocked him. Phone calls and text messages. Blocked him. Skype. Blocked him. Better. “Sis we love you and right now, all the people you need are right here” Gifty said, hugging her too. We all hugged her and went to the ice cream shop. “What movie should we see?” I asked the girls. Lex offered to look up the available movies online. We decided that if the movies weren’t thrilling enough, we would head back to V.I.

“Hello ladies” It was the man in suit. He actually looked better up close. We ignored him at first. Our girl was still caught up in a ‘boy’ dilemma, but then, this is a man. He smiled, excusing the fact that we just ignored him. “My name is Bamiloye, but you can call me Bami” He continued. “How can we help you?” Lex spoke. A lady rushed towards us panting. Her beauty was stunning. She held the box of red bottom Louboutins Mary had dropped earlier. Wtf!!!! “Sir I found the wallet at slot” The lady was saying to Mr Bami.

“I knew I dropped it somewhere, I just couldn’t figure where” He said, then turned back to us “ Meet Fareedah, My secretary. The Lady greeted us happily. “Please put the boxes in the car and then drive the Porsche back to the office. Damilare would pick it in the evening”. He instructed her. “Yes sir. Have a lovely afternoon madams” She greeted us and left. His secretary wears Red-bottom heels? Please who is this guy?

“Sorry for the interruption. I noticed you ladies were shopping all by yourselves and I kind of admired that.” He was still smiling. Them no born us well make we ignore am again. LOL. Mary pinched me and whispered “Becca say something”. Wetin I wan talk like dis na?

“Thanks Mr Bami. We…”

“Bami. Just call me Bami.” He cut in.

“Thanks Bami. We have to go.” I introduced the girls in turn and explained that we couldn’t find any nice movie and so we were leaving for the Island. He offered to drop us off. We declined. He handed me his business card and went into another store. “He is cute tho” Mary observed.

“At least he doesn’t look like a yahoo boy” Gifty said. “Yahoo boys don’t have secretaries and business cards” Lex added. We laughed. The business card said he was the CEO of a Microfinance bank. Say what?!!!!! I passed the card to the girls. “Gifty your butt did something right this time!” I exclaimed. She laughed as we paid for our ice creams. “Lex, oya order the cab” Mary said.

“Damn! Secretaries that wear red bottoms!” Gifty bursted. “That’s some high class shit sis, I tell you” Lex said. “I’m just glad he is not a yahoo boy” Mary sighed. “He is not even a boy in the first place” I replied. We all laughed. Ruthie laughed too. And we were even happier to see the smile on her face. It had been a good day so far, it was beginning to look even better……. The cab arrived and we left the mall…..

CelebritiesZion Rufus’ Diary Of a Lagos Girl Episode6 ‘The Church and and The Thong’ by Veronica617(op): 12:25am On Jan 29, 2019
Every darkness that has been overshadowing my life, Father turn them to light” The pastor was dishing out prayer points. The congregation were on their feet, praying fervently. I sat down. My present problem was beyond spiritual. My thong was stuck in between my butt and I needed to remove it. The stress ladies go through. Sigh.

The prayer session was still ongoing. An usher came to me. “Sister you have to be on your feet” He said. Like I didn’t know that before, bros leave me alone Biko. He waited, expecting immediate obedience. Oga you go wait taya because this pant dey frustrate me. “I’m not feeling well sir” I lied. Well it wasn’t entirely a lie. My panty made me sick. Men have to respect us o. We go through stress and discomfort on so many levels.

“Your healing has arrived, it shall be well with you. Every darkness that came to church with you shall evaporate….” He placed his hand on my head and prophesied. First of all young man, you don’t know my problem. This usher didn’t stop praying. The pastor was still on the pulpit “Pray! Pray! Pray! Talk to your Maker!” At this point it was clear, that if I don’t leave this place, I’ll end up talking to my Maker face to face; The thong was biting. So much for Victoria’s Secret.

“Excuse me sir” The usher didn’t hear me. I’m sure this man didn’t understand his job description when he became an usher, Because I no kon understand why usher go turn to deliverance minister on top my head. “Excuse me sir” I repeated, loudly. “I need to go to the bathroom”. He took his hand off my head and said “You are healed!”

I will definitely be healed when I get to the bathroom and take off this thong. I brisk-walked to the bathroom. Some cleaners were mopping. “Madam please use the third toilet, the other one is clogged” One said to me. “Thank you ma” I responded and went inside the toilet. Like Beyoncé to JayZ, the happiness and relief I felt as I pulled down the panties was immeasurable. Victoria’s Secret was no longer a secret!

I held the thong in my hand, folded it, and stuffed it in my bag (beside my bible). Lord have mercy. Sigh. With so much relief and breath of fresh air, ehn ehn pastor, what was that prayer point again? Some ladies walked into the church. ‘Wetin dis one wear like this again na?’ I said to myself. One of the girls had on a body con dress and fish net leggings up to her hips. Plain enough for the blind to see. The other one wore the scariest make-up. ‘Na so your blessings go pass you by’ I thought, ‘Even angels no go fit recognize you’. Serious matter.

I opened my bag to ensure my panty was still there. This one wey dem dey tiff pant upandan… It was there. Sitting peacefully beside the Bible. Good girl. Just stay right where I can see you. Something else was there; Half smoked blunt. All these atrocities in church, Becca! Sigh.

The choir was singing “Trust and obey for there is no other way…..” I went to back to my seat. Mr Usher/Deliverance Minister came over. “Madam you feel better?” He asked. My dear you don’t know the half of it. LOL. “Yes sir” I replied. “Thank you. I am healed”. The choir was still ministering. Father in heaven, hope you aren’t too busy. I just want to show you Sister chorister o.

She was at DNA on Friday, twerking for footballers. Issokay. I opened my bag again. Panty was safe, bible was safe, I picked my phone. Straight to WhatsApp status. The status I usually enjoyed most was Sommie Richie’s. You’d just find yourself knowing all the beta people in Lagos without meeting them in person. Her status was like a live-show. Next status, Skylar was busy showing off fine face and fine curves in Warri. This one doesn’t have any problems. Next, Mabel and her Food-delivery chain. Business oriented. She don blow. Next, Shewa with the Queens Drip collection. Clothes that she won’t give me for free. Especially after standing me up and causing Gifty to be mad at me. Friends for sale. Sigh.

Lex’s status was a sorry collection of cats and anime’s. I texted her. “Babe xup”. Delivered but not read. Sister chorister was still singing. Lex replied “How far. I dey church”.

Me: “Same here sis. I got gist” I was itching to tell her.

Lex:“Hunger wan keee me. I’m eating small chops”

Me:“Lmao! inside church”

Lex: “Oya what’s up”.

Me: “You remember that babe that was forming British accent behind you that night at the club?”

Lex: “The bitch that was almost naked. Lol.”

Me: “Exactly sis! Yea”

Lex:“What happened? Wetin do her?”

Me: “Babe I see her for church o! She dey sing for choir”.

Lex: “Lmao. Wtf. I’m not judging o. But she fit come church low key, pray and go home, not to join the choir and be ministering”.

Me: “Na God go still judge all of us. As in ehn”……

“Let’s say ‘The Grace’ in fellowship “ The pastor was saying.

Me: “Lex I’ll text you when I get home. Service is over”.

I got up this time and stood with the congregation. No panty problem. “The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ……”

CelebritiesZion Rufus’ Diary Of A Lagos Girl Episode5: Deeper Than Blood. Www.lingo by Veronica617(op): 8:31pm On Jan 21, 2019
Why is this one running around shirtless?” Gifty asked with a smirk on her face. The question was directed to no one in particular. Ruthie rushed to the window to peep. Amebo won’t kuku kill her. She laughed as she pulled the blinds. Well, whatever it was seemed to be interesting.

She peeped again. Gifty gave her a knock on the head. “You never see enough abi?” She said, pulling Ruthie away from the window. “The guy is cute na” she expressed “Early morning fine chest”. Fine chest ke. I needed to see too. This morning drop of cuteness must not pass my sight by. I left my cornflakes and ran to the window.

Lo and behold, Mr ‘Handsome but Shirtless’ was still jogging, ignorant of the drama he had stirred up in Gifty’s room. “Wawu!” I exclaimed “Why person pikin go fine like this?” I was drooling. The bloke had on grey sweatpants, white Nike’s, and iPhone air pods were plugged in his ears.

Cupid where art thou? Ruthie joined us again at the window; toothpaste in one hand, and her toothbrush in the other. Chei! Wetin this man go cause today ehn. “Babe go to the bathroom na” Mary snapped at Ruthie. She was least interested in our morning window-drama with Mr ‘Handsome but shirtless’; She had a bigger problem, Menstrual cramps.

Lex on the other hand was very much asleep. She had spent most of the night watching animations and looking up cats she hoped to keep as pets in the nearest future. Proper misfit.

“Una no notice say na only this side the guy dey jog?” Ruthie pointed, with her mouth full of toothpaste, foam, and spittle. That was true. The man had maintained tracks within view. We never lost sight of him. “ That’s someone’s father you two are referring to as ‘guy’ o” Gifty said, leaving the window. “Your thing for older men ehn” She added, settling herself at the table. “Sis, they bear no stress I’m sure you know“ I responded, laughing.

“Unlike the guys in our age grade.” “As in ehn…” Ruthie cut in. “Are we expected to date our mates? These boys in their twenties are really tiring. It’s like you have to teach them everything” She said again. Gifty just continued laughing as she stuffed bread in her mouth. “ Let’s do something today” She added. We laughed, leaving the window too.

“What should we do? Movies?” I asked, expecting a more interesting suggestion. “No jhor. All we did yesterday was Netflix and Chill” Mary countered, Obviously uncomfortable as she opened a pack of painkillers and popped one. I handed her a bottle of water. “Sorry dear” Gifty consoled her.

“Wake up na” Ruthie shook Lex’s legs. She opened her eyes. “How can I help you madam?” Lex said to Ruthie, rubbing her eyes and stretching. “ Wait o” Her eyes cleared “Gifty is that my Nutella?”. Gifty was happily spreading the Nutella on bread slices.

Lex’s Nutella was like Buddha; a sacred possession. You could eat her Coco pops, empty her Golden morn, finish her Ribena, but not Nutella. Gifty ran out of the room, Lex followed. “When is Shewa coming to Lagos?” Mary asked. She sounded relaxed. Guess the effects of the pill was kicking in. “She should be in Lag by Friday after her test” I responded.

The beauty of attending a private school. Their academic calendar was moving fast, whilst ours stood still. The strike was still on. “ We could go to the beach tho” Gifty entered. “No o. Not the beach abeg. You want my mum to call and say her pastor said he saw me in a vision, that I was swimming inside the river and playing with fishes.” I said.

We all laughed. Lex walked into the room too. Eating bread. At least they’ve both appeased the Nutella gods.

“Becca how long do you want to be single for?” Lex asked. “Aren’t we all single?” Mary responded. We all laughed again. It was a beautiful morning. With family. Loving each other beyond blood ties. I looked at Gifty, laughing with a bread-full mouth.

Lex was laughing too, you could see the sincerity and peace she felt from that laughter. Ruthie had joined them in the bread and Nutella breakfast, her face broadened with a happy smile. Mary got off the bed to pick her toothbrush, her hairnet looked funny. She was laughing too.

I picked up my diary and wrote…

Dear diary,

We apologize for who we are. It’s not who we set out to be. Not even what our parents had in mind. We never believed we would grow up like this, or end up being the kids we were taught to avoid. Every tear we cried, led us here. Here at crossroads, in uncertainties, confused, far from home and blood ties. Still further away from who we want to be. But here we are, HAPPY and at Peace. I dropped my pen and joined in the bread and Nutella ritual.

CelebritiesRepost: Diary Of A Lagos Girl by Zion V Rufus www.lingoafrica.com by Veronica617(op):
Club DNA never held many blessings for me considering the memories from past years; I reminisced as I walked into the club with my ‘Bellasʼ all glammed up and clad in different designer dresses.

I saw Sommie Richie at the mirror that graced the entrance; ever impressive with her choice of outfits, She reeked of independence and poise. We exchanged pleasantries as I went up the stairs with my friends.

My eyes brightened, I smiled sheepishly. Lex followed my gaze and smiled too; My crush was present for the first time in a long time. Kizz Daniel sat comfortably in the VIP section. He had a white face cap on and a sweatshirt of matching color.

I couldn’t quite figure if the dark print on the sweatshirt was a Black Panther or a Jaguar, it didn’t matter anyway; He was showing off his soul- snatching dimples in a broad smile. My heart skipped a beat. ‘God, You created this too? Damn! ʼ I said underneath my breath.

The lighting was awesome as always; The management surely knew how to give everyone the ‘creme de la cremeʼ feeling. The club which was grandly situated opposite Eko hotel and Suites, sat on a major road in Victoria Island Lagos.

Ruthie picked a table close to the bar. Mary objected, pointing out that we were well dressed enough to be under the red and blue lights. I had no complaints, the table worked for me. It permitted a good view of the VIP, I could crush on my crush quietly.

LOL.

We settled for the table and got drinks. My friends pulled out their phones and got busy with whatever suited them. Mary was snap-chatting, Gifty was wiping her prized Brazilian hair in place, Ruthie was leaving tons of messages for her non-call-picking boyfriend, she looked up and sighed for the billionth time.

“Awwwwww sis, keep texting,” I said “He probably forgot you are his girlfriend”. Lex was irritated by a Slay Queen that was faking a British accent, and I was the happiest young lady on earth staring at my crush.
I picked my phone too and went to his Instagram page.

The notifications read ‘7 new postsʼ. Shit. I went ahead and liked them all. I opened the comment section and sighed, there were lots of heart and kissy-face emojis from several female Instagrammers . Too many sef. ‘Kizz Daniel I love youʼ ‘Vado the greatʼ ‘let me be your baby mamaʼ ‘if you want to flip your cashʼ….. The comments were endless. I added mine.

It was just a crown. I ainʼt gotta do much right? Sigh. Ruthie hit my head with her small DKNY purse. “You wonʼt leave that boy alone
Becca!” She said, placing the purse back on the table. “Which boy?” Mary asked. Lex didnʼt say a thing. She knew. “Is it bad to have a crush?” The dude is cute na” I answered smiling.

“Oh! So itʼs no longer Vector, itʼs now Kizz Daniel” Ruthie pointed. “Well, I donʼt even know why Iʼm attracted to the boy sef” I stated. Truly I was only fascinated with his dimples and his ‘Happy Childʼ vibes, but it was slowly becoming an obsession. “At least he hasnʼt declared any baby mama” I added proudly.

“All na wash Biko, the boy doesnʼt even club that much, Iʼm surprised to see him here” Gifty explained. “Shey because he don use
your name sing now we no go hear word again,” Mary said, laughing hysterically. Did he sing a song with my name? My soul rejoiced. I thought God had shown me to him in his dream or something. “Really? Which song?” I asked happily.

Lex left her seat and went round the table; the Slay Queen was making her lose her cool. “All these girls wey he sure for me say them no even get T-fare wey them go use go house” She said, apparently irritated. “Donʼt sweat it,” Gifty said, “These bitches do the most”. Lex came over to where I was seated and set her headphones on both ears for me. I could hear Davido and Kizz Daniel ‘One Ticketʼplaying, I increased the volume; The music inside the club drowned every other noise; we had been conversing at the top of our voices.

I looked up the stairs at the small Dj booth ‘ Dj Kenzy weldoneʼ I sighed. Over the headphones “….Small thing you don dey vex, you don dey order Uber, Veronica cool down….” Awwwwwwwwwwwww. I removed the headphones. “Durrrrh” I retorted “Thatʼs just my middle name na” disappointed that God didnʼt actually make him dream of me. “Na you know o” Mary said as she excused herself to go to the bathroom.

Some Lekki boys walked up to our table and invited us to theirs. We declined. Yahoo boys were the least people our lives needed. Perhaps if it were a squad consisting of Dangote, Elumelu and Otedola, we would have been highly honoured. “Thanks, but no thanks” Gifty said. I only had eyes on my crush. “Make we dey go house o. Itʼs almost 4:00” Mary was back, “ Our cab is downstairs”. Lex sorted the bills while I stole glances at Kizz Daniel.

We packed our bags and purses and got up to leave. The song ‘One Ticketʼ came on…. “Loving you na scam o….” I smiled, now recognizing the song. We walked down the stairs and I stole one more glance at his soul-snatching dimples. Satisfied, I turned and walked after my friends. The song was still playing “…..See baby, If you want to leave o Biko leave….” I smiled again…. ‘I ainʼt going anywhere darlingʼ I said underneath my breath and went down the stairs.
