The EFCC on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 arrested a notorious fraudster who specialises in defrauding unsuspecting members of the public through fraudulent bank credit alerts. Wale Olaide (a.k.a Wale Dollar) met his waterloo when he duped one Abdulhamid Abubakar, a bureau de change operator of N5, 000,000.00(Five Million Naira only). Olaide had contacted Abubakar’s younger brother, Hashim, also a bureau de change operator based in Lome, Togo Republic that he wanted to purchase Five Million Naira (N5, 000,000) equivalent in CFA Francs. Olaide requested for his Nigerian bank account to enable him pay in the naira equivalent. Hashim asked Abubakar to send his First Bank account details to Olaide.

Abubakar acted immediately, sent his account details and after a while, he received an alert supposedly from his bank that N5, 000.000.00 (Five Million Naira) had been credited to his account domiciled at the Seme Border branch. Upon receiving the alert, Abubakar informed his brother who in turn released the CFA Franc equivalent of N5m to Olaide.

The next day Abubakar visited the bank to withdraw the money, but to his dismay, his account balance didn’t reflect the said transaction. He complained to the branch manager and his statement of account was rolled out but the transaction was not reflected. When Abubakar noticed that the bank couldn’t help, he approached the EFCC.

Series of investigative initiatives by the EFCC yielded the arrest of Olaide who is believed to be a member of a deadly syndicate involved in duping unsuspecting members of the public through fraudulent banking notification alerts.

While, the EFCC is working to unravel the intricate network of operations of the syndicate, the Commission has appealed to members of the public to be wary of this new trend in criminality by fraudsters who use phony credit alerts to defraud others.

An Australian woman put up an Ad online saying she needed two Apple smartphones , then she received a call from a woman who said she has two “APPLES” for sale .

According to the Herald sun ,the two fixed a meeting for a McDonald’s restaurant where they exchanged money for Iphones(Apples).The seller was kind enough to box the two Apples in separate iphone boxes which she gave to the 21 year-old Brisbane woman .The young woman didn’t open her boxes until she got home.

Who does that? Letting a thousand five hundred dollars out of your pocket without even checking out what you are paying for ?

No wonder she needed a Smartphone !

Despite dwindling oil revenues that have drastically impacted Bayelsa State as well as N4 billion pension liabilities, Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa has just lavished public funds on a beauty pageant that was supposed to be the private affair of the Murray-Bruce family in Yenegoa. This is despite the governor saying recently said that the sponsorship of entertainment awards by the state government was not in the interest of the state’s oil-dependent and consumption economy. SaharaReporters has also gathered that the state currently has a pension liability of about N4 billion, which compelled pensioners to stage a public protest a fortnight ago. The justification for the policy summersault to permit expending state resources to fund a beauty pageant in a state where basic social amenities are non-existent is unclear, especially coming from Dickson, who claims to run a prudent and transparent administration.

It would be recalled that earlier this year, the Bayelsa Government had to embark on a fundraising dinner to raise part of the sponsorship funds for the African Movie Academy Awards hosted by the state. Observers of developments in Bayelsa said that beauty pageant sponsorship may be a form of patronage for Mr. Ben Murray-Bruce, the Chairman of the organizing Silverbird Group who contested the gubernatorial election with Dickson two years ago. “The show was packaged to assuage the carnal lust of the political class and this is very sad development from a government that pledged to deviate from the culture of waste of public resources by previous governments,” an analyst said. “How can a state where there is endemic poverty and no public water supply and be wasting billions of Naira in sponsoring a beauty pageant where the elites will simply spend one night watching nudity and unclothedness of young girls. Asked Ephraim Johnson, a resident of Yenagoa, the state capital, “Is this the way he will develop the state? It is rather shocking that while the masses are struggling with refuse heaps and crying for basic infrastructure, the politicians are spending the commonwealth of the state on trivial things as beauty pageants.

Many senior Christian leaders in Nigeria found it hard to believe the story when it broke. They made calls to confirm if those close to this popular pastor had heard the "unfortunate" story.

But the ‘man of God’ himself has finally cleared the air as to what really happened, leading to him have s*x with a girl [her parents say he raped her] right inside one of the church office...
Speaking at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Rivers State, Bishop Chibuike Nwabueze narrated the story of how he allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl after ministering at Calvary Army Ministry, Rumuoji Eneka in Obio Akpor local government area of Rivers state.

He blamed it on the devil and also accused his host as the one who set him up. According to the cleric, after he finished ministering, he retired to rest. The girl later came for deliverance.

The pastor said that while he was pleading the blood of Jesus on the little girl, she started removing her dress. Before he could restrain her, he said he found himself on top of her.

“But to my greatest surprise, I was surprised when I saw her pulling off her blouse and skirt. But, before I knew it, I had a carnal knowledge of her. That is the truth of the matter.”

His head suddenly dropped after the confession, then went up again; this time he said anybody could have fallen for it.

Nwabueze said he took a second look at the little girl who probably was still lying nude and waiting for him to start a second round and what he saw pissed him off.

“She started laughing at me. She said ‘are you angry?’ I told her that I did not know she had hypnotised me. She said I should not bother,” the bishop said.

According to him, when he realised he had sinned against God, he called some junior pastors to tell them what he had done to pray for him. “I was so angry and annoyed that I called some of my pastors and made a confession, that I did not know what was happening.”

Nwabueze said it was not true that he raped the girl, stressing that it was a consensual act. He also dismissed the allegation that he later procured abortion for the girl when the father called to inform him that she was pregnant. According to him, it was the girl’s father that did it but he paid the bills.

The bishop maintained that the pastor of the church where he went to preach set him up and he fell for it.

“We have different Colleges of Bishops. I am the Chairman of the Communion of Bishops in Rivers State. Well, what actually happened was a set up. It was set-up by my enemies. I have so many people who are my enemies. The man in-charge of where I went to minister is my enemy. He is the person that set me up,” he stated.

“He invited me to his church for a program me, claiming to be my friend. After the program me, he set me up because of the tussle over the chairmanship of the communion.”

Meanwhile, the police have advised Christians to be vigilant and ask the right questions sometimes on the actions of some pastors. This way the police said, Christians could different between true and fake pastors.

Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Rivers SCID, Mr Samuel Okaula, who paraded the bishop and a male nurse who allegedly facilitated the abortion, also said people should be conscious of worship centers. He said Nwabueze would be arraigned before the court to serve as a deterrent.

Reacting to the development, Executive Director, Institute of Human rights and Humanitarian Law, IHRHL, Mr Ayankwee Nsirimovu, described the action of the bishop as unfortunate as it was done by one in a position of spiritual trust. He said the incident was one case out of the experiences of under aged girls, married and single women in the offices of randy clergy men.

An herbalist, Ndem Asuquo renown for being a specialist in preparing killer charms for his clients, recently cheated death as he was seriously battered in Creek Town, Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State by angry youths.
Eye witness account had it that the voodoo man was manhandled by youths of the area while allegedly preparing a fetish concoction to kill the youth leader of the town, purportedly for one of his clients, identified as Bassey Nyong who was forced out of office by the youths.

Bassey who lost the fight to retain the youth’s leadership seat of the town, enlisted the services of the herbalist, renowned for preparing killer charms.
The herbalist was allegedly caught in the act as he sneaked into the incumbent youth leader’s compound at about mid-day, when the people had gone to work, carrying a powdery substance and spraying it around, even as he was seen making incantations in low tone.
When those trailing him asked him what his mission in the compound was, he claimed he was there to say hello to the youth leader. However, when he was asked to explain what the powdery substance in his possession was meant for, he could not offer any explanation.
As the youths pounced on him, Bassey who had followed the crowd into the compound fled into a nearby bush. The herbalist afterward confessed, explaining the circumstances surrounding his mission in the youth leader’s house.
He was later handed over to the police

A suspected fake National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, member, Opeyemi Ajala, 34, has been remanded in prison custody after he was arrested by the police at Dolphin Division, Ikoyi, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, and charged to court.

He allegedly told the police that he was contracted by Olotu Osayowanon now at large to help him serve the one year compulsory scheme with an agreement that he would be paying him N19,000 monthly.

Trouble started for Opeyemi, a resident of 25, Jebba Street, Ebute Meta, Lagos on 27 June, 2013 when he went to the Ikoyi/Obalende LCDA, Ikoyi, Lagos to register for the one year NYSC compulsory scheme as a graduate.

During screening, the officer in charge of the programme reportedly discovered that all the documents he presented were fake.

The fake documents found on him, according to the police include forged death certificate of one Osarogie Olotu, Acceptance Letter from Eti Osa LCDA, BA Certificate from the University of New Castle, United Kingdom and NYSC call up letter.

During preliminary questioning by the NYSC officials about how he came about the documents bearing different names and not his name, he allegedly said someone contracted him to serve for him.

The NYSC officials reported him to the DPO of Dolphin Estate Division, Ikoyi S.P Musa Abdullahi who directed his men to arrest the suspect and take him to the station.

In his confessional statement to the police, Opeyemi allegedly said: “I am a jobless man and my father and mother died a few years ago, and since I passed out from the school of Fishery and Marine Technology in 2009, I have not been able to get a job.

“One day, I went to the NYSC camp at Ipaja, Lagos, where I met Olotu Osayowanon who approached me to help him serve his one year compulsory NYSC scheme because he graduated in London.

“He provided me with all the NYSC uniform and kits and he agreed to be paying me N19,000 every month and out of frustration I accepted the offer before I was arrested. I promise not to indulge in such crime again.”

After investigation by Corporal Miracle Ikyav, Ajala was charged before an Igbosere Magistrate’s court on three count charge of felony, to wit, impersonating and forgery.

The offences, the prosecutor Supol E. Ekuma said contravened Sections 409,380 and 374 of the criminal laws of Lagos State 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge, and Chief Magistrate Mrs. O.O. Oshin admitted him on bail in the sum of N150, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the matter till 30 July, 2013 for mention.

The defendant was taken to Ikoyi Prison pending when he would fulfil the bail conditions

Health workers and patients at the Osun State General Hospital, Osogbo were left confused on Friday when a nursing mother, Mrs. Grace Adipe, allegedly abandoned her three-day-old baby in the hospital.

The hospital community was taken aback as the news of the abandonment spread.

A woman, Adijat Bamijoko, told NAN that she was in the hospital to assist a patient when the incident occurred on Thursday, and wondered “how a nursing mother could abandon her child.

“Although, I do not know the woman, but one wonders why she should abandon her baby in the hospital where Gov. Rauf Aregbesola had made medication free for all,” she said.

Other people who expressed surprise over the incident, called on the hospital’s management to ensure that the fleeing mother was brought back to care for her baby.

Search team, including government officials and law enforcement agents had failed in their effort to find the woman.

The Osun Commissioner for Women and Children’s Affairs, Mrs. Mofolake Adegboyega, said in a statement that efforts to contact the woman by the hospital authorities were yet to yield results.

Adegboyega called Adipe’s relations and members of the public to be vigilant on the whereabouts of the woman.

She urged members of the public to consider the innocence and future of the child and help in efforts to find the mother and her relations.

The commissioner said that any information about Adipe’s whereabouts should be directed to the nearest police station or the Director of Social Welfare in the ministry, Mrs. Grace Adegoke.

About nine junior secondary school students were on Tuesday, caught donating blood illegally to one Mr. Sola in Agege area of Lagos. It was learnt that members of the community noticed the unusual visit of some students to a certain shop located on Owoloabi Omotoye street, Orile Agege, during and after school hours which prompted a little investigation. The investigations revealed that the students had been donating their blood for money.

One of the students nabbed at the shop and simply identified as Emeka, a JSS2 pupil, confessed to donating his blood thrice for the sum of N1, 500 on each occasion with Sola asking them “not to tell anyone about it.”
Some of the students, who were from Oke Odo High School; State Senior High School,Oyewole; State Junior High School, Oyewole; State High School, Mulero; Keke High school, Agege, it was further gathered, had donated their blood up to 17 times .

Confirming the incident, chairman of the Parent-Teachers’ Association (PTA) State Junior High School, Mr. Adeyemi, said some of the students, who became very sick as a result of the repeated blood donation, had been taken to the hospital while the rest had been released to their parents.
Mr. Adeyemi added that beside those caught in the act, several other students later confessed to have donated their blood at one point or the other saying that the case had been reported to the education district 1 for further action.

A randy clergyman is nursing injuries at a hospital after he was badly injured by an angry husband who caught him red handed sleeping with his wife in his bedroom.

The two had returned from evening service when the woman, who is the youth leader in the church, invited the pastor to her house for a cup of tea. The ‘cup of tea’ extended into the late hours of the night and since the husband is not at home but works in a nearby town, the married pastor was tempted to spend the night.
Unknown to the love birds, however, word had already reached the husband that his home in Kakamega had been turned into a ‘brothel’.

The husband rushed home that night, raging with fury and ready to devour whomever he found in his house. He arrived at around 11pm and noted that the front door was locked. Luckily, he had spare keys for the back door.

As he was getting into the house, the two sensed danger and the preacher ran out through the front door and sprinted to his house, which is in the neighborhood, half naked. The angry man did not give up. He chased the pastor into his house and fished him out with the help of others who had had been attracted by the commotion.

“When we caught him, he couldn’t say anything in his defense as even his wife was still crying at the mistreatment and shame he had exposed her to,” said an eyewitness.

The pastor, a father of two, for obvious reasons, remained mum when he was asked what he was doing in another man’s bed in the odd hours of the night. His silence enraged the man and others into beating him with kicks, bows and sticks.

So yesterday, word went round that Davido, his brother Adewale Adeleke and his manager Kamal Ajiboye had been arrested in a club in Budapest, Hungary. Over some fake Euro currency they used in paying for drinks. According to the story, Davido and show promoter Osariemen Ekiudoko Frank had some issues which led to Frank’s refusal to pay Davido his balance. This supposedly led to Davido being stranded in Budapest as he missed his flight. So, he had to spend another night in Budapest.

Then he and crew decided to go to a party with fake euro notes, given to them by the show organizer only to get arrested by Hungarian police. They were reportedly later on able to get released, then they took off for Paris. Story, story, story.Well, according to Davido’s management, Davido didn’t get arrested.

Ogun State – Three members of a family, Isioma Ufili, 4, Victoria Ufili, 30 (mother) and Favour Nkiruka Ufili, 26, have died after eating a meal of yam flour, better known as amala.

The mother, Victoria, prepared and served the meal at their 85, Opeilu Road, Agbado, Ogun State, southwest Nigeria.
The family’s last born, a nine-month old baby boy, survived having sucked his mother’s breasts after she ate the meal.
He was treated at Overcomers Hospital, Agbado-Crossing alongside his mother, who later died at the same hospital. Mr. Ufili, a petty trader, didn’t eat from the meal because he was away at work.It was gathered that last Saturday, Mrs. Ufili went to the market after which she prepared the amala meal suspected to be poisonous for her family to eat.
Shortly after taking the meal in the evening, it was Isioma that first complained of stomach pains, after which she started vomiting.

A few minutes later, the mother had the same symptoms and both of them were rushed to Overcomers Hospital, Agbado-Crossing.
“But they rejected Isioma because her case was too critical and referred her to Ifako General Hospital.
From there she was also referred to the Ikeja General Hospital. She eventually died at the Ikeja General Hospital at about 6am on Monday, the same day the sister, Favour and mother, Victoria eventually died,” Mr. Charles Ikechukwu, the younger brother of Mr. Ufili said.
Ikechukwu explained that a few hours after Isioma’s death, they received a call from the Ifako General Hospital.

“When we got there, they told us that Mrs. Ufili had died. They also said that we should take care of the baby because he was also vomiting, having sucked his mother’s breasts.”
Mrs. Ufili’s body has been deposited at the mortuary.
