dfrost: Cool. Have you been reading the novels from Vince Flynn? No its been a while I dug Vince. Been so busy for me lately. Remember the last novel I sent to you? "The Kill Room" by Jeffery Deaver? I just recently completed it. (covers face) It was so full of suspense. After reading that, doing more of Motivational books lately. Currently reading (picture attached) Would recommend, but its for women I heard about "Carte Blanche 007" by Jeffery Deaver. Have you heard of it? Wanna get it from Amazon soon. Any new books for me? I know you're novelbank

elfico: Its really upsetting, however, some blame lay with them. many of the systems affected are still using Windows XP whose life cycle ended long ago. Moreover, the tools used to craft the attacks are suspected to be from the NSA hacking tools leaked sometime ago and Microsoft has released patches for their OS (at least the ones that are still being supported.) The fact that more attacks are imminent should be a wake up call to people to take system security serious. And I am hybrid too by the way. lolz Oh lol Good to know. You're so right about that. And that's the first thing I debated with my colleagues. I was shocked to read that reputable organizations still runs on outdated OS/unpatched. I mean why use Windows XP? I understand if they were IT companies, but health sectors? We indeed have a long way to go in incorporating IT Security in other sectors. Yea, it was actually leaked about a month ago.(And that makes me wonder how much of those weapons NSA has instock ) And like you rightly stated Microsoft released patches for their OS. But obviously these companies were yet to update them. Forcing Microsoft to release an emergency one on Friday, especially for users who were still running on XP/Vista. I mean, there will always be vulnerabilities in OS's and attackers will always exploit these vulnerabilities, but its left for companies to update when patches are released by their providers. I understand if it was Nigeria. I understand if so many companies were affected because they dint patch their OS. Because in the first place, sadly some reputable companies dont even run on genuine OS in Naija.. And with IOT devices gaining grounds. Trust me, this is just the beginning of Distributed attacks. Sad, but truth! |

elfico: Quite true. Attacks never stop. That's why OS patches don't stop either. Linux users would be having a big laugh right now. You're right. They are just cowards risking people's life for their own selfish gain. lol. Yea right! I'm Hybrid. But aint happy about this. Especially seeing how health sectors were affected. Super-upsetting! |

elfico: The attack has been halted about 2 days ago when a security blogger discovered the kill switch by registering the domain that the ransomeware was always trying to contact. Yea, by MalwareTech. "Accidental Hero" He's indeed a life saver. But he warned that the attack may still continue though. This is indeed the biggest of its kind! |

alignacademy: Very helpful info
If only all government agencies could be this proactive... Hehehehehe. This one proactive? Attack that happened since Friday. Trust me, if those attackers were targeting companies in Naija, even NITDA that's "giving" advise will probably be affected. Cos I'm pretty sure some of their systems may still run on outdated OS. And like someone said, this advise was copied. And someone also said, at all at all, na im bad pass. So dem try. It's well with our IT industry! |
