Chapter 6: Direct Rejection Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios Moreover, we were too close to each other, and our positions were too intimate. Even I was almost affected by the erotic atmosphere, and my body softened. “Get lost!” I cursed as I pushed against his chest. At this moment, the surveillance camera above their heads suddenly rang. “Hello? Is anyone here? Were you guys looking for help just now?” The man who was pressing me down suddenly took a big step back and looked at me with a complicated expression. He then adjusted his clothes and said seriously, “It’s us. The elevator broke down and got stuck on the top floor.” “Okay, please wait a moment. We’ll be right there,” the surveillance replied. “Hooligan!” Only then did I manage to catch my breath. While panting, I scowled at him. His eyes had gone completely clear, as if he wasn’t the one who’d turned the tables on me earlier. He adjusted his tie without looking at me. “I don’t want to warn you a second time. Stay away from me and don’t try to mess with me,” he said flatly. I was speechless. I stood up straight and didn’t say another word. Someone who dared to be so arrogant in front of me, I want to find out what background he has. After more than 10 minutes, the rescue team finally arrived and rescued us. The moment I stepped out, I stormed home. Before I closed the door, I heard the man blaming the late rescuers. “If this happens again, your supervisor won’t have to come to work anymore!” “Such a domineering attitude, who does this guy think he is?” I muttered under my breath before dialing my good friend Galen. Galen was a good friend I’d met when I was studying medicine abroad. He was also Nicole’s teacher and had the world’s best hacking skills. “Galen, I want to find out who my neighbor is.” “Oh, I was just about to tell you about this.” Galen seemed to have expected this, and he quickly said, “Not long ago, Alpha, the heir of the European Financial Group, wanted to ask for your help in treating his illness. He’s been asking around for your identity.” “What’s his offer? Does that have anything to do with the question I’m asking?” It was another person trying to find out my identity, and I was getting impatient. “Of course it does. Alpha is your new neighbor,” Galen said. That arrogant, rude, and terrifyingly strong man was Alpha? I felt even angrier. “Reject him. Tell him the ghost doctor would never help Alpha with anything,” I said coldly. “Okay, I understand.” Galen hung up. The next day, I planned to go to the hospital where I had given birth all those years ago to gather information. It was there that my son was taken away by my vicious stepmother. From then on, I lost all information about my son. My stepmother and stepsister have been threatening me with the whereabouts of my son. I can’t let this pass. But just down the steps of the Kamel apartment building, I actually saw Peter. Peter looked as if he had come prepared. As soon as he saw me, he approached me solicitously, a bouquet of roses in his hand. He smiled, thinking he was handsome. “Hello, beautiful lady. May I get to know you?” Peter, who avoided and detested me, and even wanted me dead, is now trying to please me. I felt sick. Ignoring him, I waved my hand to knock off the big bouquet of roses he handed to me and continued walking. Behind him, Peter rubbed his chin and sighed. “What a personality, but I like her better now. You guys haven’t found out who she is?” The man next to Peter bowed his head. “I’m sorry, Master Peter. It’s as if she just appeared out of nowhere. There’s no information.” “Enough! Keep an eye on her! Useless things!” |
Chapter 5: Woman, I’m Not Interested In You Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios At night, after I coaxed my two babies to sleep, I went out with a big bag of garbage. I didn’t expect to meet that annoying egomaniac the moment I opened the door. “This is a private apartment. How did you get in?” He demanded. I laughed out loud at the ludicrous situation. “Please, mister. What are you hanging around my front door for?” Immediately we both realized a problem. We seemed to be neighbors. I ignored him and walked toward the elevator with a bag of trash in my hand. I didn’t expect this egomaniac to follow me into the elevator. “Don’t try to get close to me and my son. It’s useless.” The man said this to me as soon as we entered the elevator. “Crazy,” I muttered under my breath as I pressed the elevator button. It was my bad luck to meet someone so unreasonable. However, something even more unfortunate happened. No matter how hard I pressed the button, the elevator still steadily halted at the top floor without any movements. “Damn… why can’t I open the door?” I anxiously tried to open the elevator door. “Get out of my way!” The man pushed me away and pressed the button, but there was no response. I searched myself all over and realized that I’m only wearing silk pajamas to throw out the trash. I didn’t bring anything, including my phone. I looked over at the egomaniac. He had a scowl on his face, and it was obvious he didn’t have his phone with him either. This is great. I have to stay with this egomaniac and wait for help. The man looked at the elevator doors and clenched his fists. Then he glanced at me again, as if trying to hold back something. We waited together for about 10 minutes, but no one came. “Hey, hey, is anyone there?” I waved my hands at the surveillance camera in the upper right corner of the elevator, hoping to attract the security’s attention. However, no matter how I moved, no one responded. Alpha was currently looking at the way the woman was moving and found it incredibly attractive. Coupled with the fragrance of her sweat from her intense movements, his heart was racing and his adrenaline was soaring. He was trying his best to restrain himself, but he was already on the verge of breaking down. At this moment, he could not spare any energy to think about why this was happening. He only felt that the woman in front of him was so alluring. Whether it was her curves outlined by her silk pajamas or the stubbornness and unruly look in her eyes, they all made him feel joy and desire! He wanted to touch her. Damn it, this woman must have set up a trap in order to seduce him! If not, how could he be so out of sorts? “That’s enough. It’s late at night. People are already asleep. Who would pay attention to you?” He sneered coldly. “Then you’ll be stuck in the elevator forever!” I stopped. The man looked at me, his eyes very unfriendly, but his gaze slowly moved down. I followed his line of sight and looked down. It was only then that I realized that the buttons on my pajamas had been pulled open, revealing two snow-white lumps. Damn it! I didn’t wear a bra when I went out! The egomaniac saw me tying my clothes in a panic and coldly said, “Stop dreaming. I’m not interested in women like you.” Under his contemptuous and disdainful gaze, I felt provoked. I took two steps forward and grabbed his tie. “A man who isn’t interested in me probably can’t perform in bed, right?” No man’s dignity could stand being challenged. Of course, so was his. The egomaniac narrowed his eyes and threatened me with a hoarse voice, “You know the price of doing this?” My lips curled into a smile. On the surface, he looked like he wasn’t attracted to women and was extremely disgusted with me. But beneath his facade, he might have long since lost track of his sexual desires. Feeling the bulge in his lower body, I felt the thrill of revenge. I tiptoed and whispered in his ear, “Sir, your mouth is dishonest, but your body is quite honest.” “You!” With a sudden jerk, he grabbed my shoulders and pinned me against the elevator wall. The smell of a mature man instantly enveloped me, with his stiff lower body pressing me against the elevator wall. His eyes were filled with lust and possessiveness, a completely different person from earlier where he was calm and restrained. I felt that his eyes were like those of a wolf who had been hungry for a long time. If this was the right place, he would immediately eat me up. In the elevator, the temperature of the air was clearly rising. My body was soon soaked with sweat. The man might have paused in his movements, but he seemed to be enduring some kind of intense emotion, to the extent that sweat beaded on his brow and ran down the contours of his face. He looked strained. This man was handsome. The charisma he exuded was something that few people could compare to. It was extremely sexy. He suddenly said, “Since you’ve put in so much effort, I won’t stand on ceremony and enjoy it.” Put in effort? Enjoy? What was he talking about? The man was staring into my eyes at this moment. His voice was low and deep, as if he was whispering to his lover gentle words of love. However, I couldn’t feel his gentleness at all. He quickly buried his head in my neck, and his hands exerted force on me, causing my body to stick tightly in his embrace. I cried out in surprise. However, the immense strength I had gained after giving birth to the child was useless against him. This man was even stronger than me! I can’t break free from him! The tip of my nose was filled with the pleasant smell of the man’s body.. I vaguely felt… a trace of familiarity. |
Chapter 4: Rescue Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios I tore it right off. Seeing me like this, my stepmother immediately said sharply, “Luna, you gave birth to a bastard child! Peter will never want you!” Only if I broke off the engagement would Shana be able to marry into Peter’s family. Since they are the one who wanted something from me, we’d just dawdle and see who was more urgent. “Heh!” I sneered and said sarcastically, “Only people like you would fight for someone like Peter. My mother’s inheritance will never be given to you!” With that, I turned and walked out. My two obedient babies saw me coming out. They comforted me. “Mommy, don’t be angry because of bad people.” I smiled and then rubbed their cheeks. “How about a strawberry dessert tonight?” “Yay!” The two little fellows cheered. By the time I got the two kids back to Kamel apartment and drove outside to buy strawberry ice cream, I suddenly saw two men skulking around at the end of the street. They kept looking back, and in their hands they carried a little boy. The boy’s hands were tied and his mouth was covered. He could only struggle with all his might. My heart ached for no reason. I subconsciously shouted, “What are you two doing?!” When the two criminals heard that, they turned around and quickly ran. However, they couldn’t outrun me. For some reason, my body had become abnormal over the past five years, so it only took me five seconds to knock them out. I was about to check on the boy when a tall man suddenly rushed over. Without warning, he snatched the little boy from my hands and held him in his arms. I hadn’t even gotten a good look at the boy. “You’re his father?” I asked when the child didn’t struggle. “Who are you?” The man’s voice was low and his tone was unfriendly. He kept protecting the boy in his arms, so that I could only see the boy’s short hair but not his face. After helping him save his child, he was still so unfriendly. I started to lose my temper. I leaned against the wall by the side of the street and asked, “The child is about to be kidnapped by criminals. What kind of a father are you?” I was leaning against the wall because I had expended a lot of energy chasing after the criminal. With my current physique, my explosive power was very good, but the side effects were also very obvious, just like how I am extremely weak right now. But I couldn’t show any weaknesses in front of this rude fellow. Perhaps because the way I leaned against the wall was a bit seductive, and revealed my impressive figure, the man’s Adam’s apple visibly moved. However, he still retorted, “What kind of father I am is not up to you to judge!” “Ha, egomaniac.” “What did you say?” The man was obviously angered. He took two steps closer and the smell of tobacco hit my face. I didn’t expect to be treated like this after doing something good. I didn’t back down at all and stared straight into his eyes and enunciated every word clearly, “Egomaniac.” We stared at each other, unwilling to be outdone. The distance between us was only about a centimeter. I could see the disdain, doubt, and anger in his eyes. I know that look. It’s the kind of look a man gets when he sees a female they are interested in. It’s obvious that he is lusting for me. Was he crazy? He actually couldn’t control his urges towards the woman that he was hating just a second ago? But he quickly reined in his gaze. He looked at me for a few seconds, then turned coldly to the boy. “Let’s go.” I rolled my eyes and walked slowly to buy my daughters strawberry ice cream cones. But I didn’t expect to meet that annoying egomaniac again that night. |

Chapter 3: Going Home Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios After putting the luggage away, I brought the two little kids back to the home that I hated. If it wasn’t for my father and stepmother, I wouldn’t have lost my son! Every time I thought about this, I was filled with hatred. When we got home, I took the two kids straight to the second floor. If my father hadn’t specifically called me a while ago to inform me that Peter was willing to break off the engagement, and that he needed me home to sign the annulment papers, I would never have stepped into this house again. Suddenly, the lively Nicole pulled my hand and said, “Mommy, there are people fighting there.” I casually glanced over and saw a group of women surrounding another woman in the small parlor. They were punching and kicking her onto the floor. However, when I took a closer look, the woman in the lead was my step-sister Shana, and the one who was beaten up was my aunt’s younger sister, Sandy. I hurried over and heard Shana scolding. “You bitch! How dare you praise that fat girl at my birthday party? You’re just trying to ruin my fun, aren’t you?” Sandy held her head and sobbed as she explained, “I didn’t. I only said that Luna would look better after she slimmed down. I didn’t ruin your fun!” “How dare you still deny it? Sisters, beat this bitch to death!” Shana glared and kicked her. When Shana raised her hand and was about to slap Sandy again, I immediately lashed out at them. “Let’s see who else dares to hit her!” Thereafter, I stepped forward and grabbed Shana’s wrist tightly. “What are you doing! Let go!” Shana yelled. I casually shook off her wrist and pushed past her to check on Sandy’s injuries. “Sandy, I’m here. Don’t be afraid.” I helped her to her feet, then scanned the other abusers. Shana’s eyes widened even more when she heard my voice. “You’re Luna?” she said in disbelief. “The fat girl with the bastard child?” I couldn’t stand people calling my baby a ‘bastard’. I raised my hand and slapped her. I used a lot of strength to slap Shana. Shana came back to her senses. She held her face and stared at me. “How dare you hit me? You’re finished! I’m going to ask my parents to teach you a lesson, you little bitch!” I sneered. “Heh, let’s see who will have the last laugh.” After speaking, I reached out and slapped her again. Seeing Shana’s face rapidly swell, I felt a little better and laughed. “Look at yourself. You’re the pig, aren’t you?” After sending Sandy off, I told my two babies to wait for me outside the study on the second floor. As soon as I walked through the door, I saw my father frowning at me. I sneered and asked, “Where’s the annulment letter? Take it out.” “Luna, you still don’t know your place!” My father immediately became angry. My stepmother added fuel to the fire. “How uneducated.” I ignored them and knocked on the table. “Don’t make me repeat myself.” Only then did my stepmother reluctantly throw a piece of paper at me. I stared at it. Written on it were the terms of the annulment, which was to voluntarily allocate my mother’s inheritance as a dowry for Shana. They kicked me out of the house, took my son, and are now aiming to take away my mother’s inheritance? “I do not accept the terms,” I said coldly. Father’s expression changed. “You messed around outside, causing Shana to be laughed at all the time over the years.. Think of it as you making it up to Shana.” |
Chapter 2: Return Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios [Five years later] “Mommy, mommy, don’t sleep anymore. Look at the plane taking off from the ground. I want to run on the ground later too.” The moment I opened my eyes, I saw Nicole’s delicate and cute little face. The little tantrum I had from being woken up was gone. Beside her, Winnie quietly glanced at Nicole before putting the children’s book into her little bag. 1 Seeing that I was awake, Nicole opened her big black eyes and asked, “Mommy, mommy, are we here to find daddy?” I adjusted my sitting position and said dryly, “You guys don’t have a father.” “I don’t believe that. Without a father, did we jump out of mommy’s armpit?” Ignoring whether or not I was paying attention to her, Nicole mumbled to herself, “If you’re not looking for daddy, are you looking for big brother?! Wow, is Nicole going to have a big brother?!” When I heard the word ‘brother’, my heart trembled. I was tidying up my makeup when I clearly saw the cold light in my eyes from the reflection in the mirror. If Brother Robin hadn’t arrived in time, I wouldn’t know where the two little cuties by my side would have been now. But Robin came a little late and didn’t guarantee the safety of the sisters’ brother. I must get him back this time! Moreover, Peter finally couldn’t hold back and agreed to break the engagement. This marriage has been delayed for so long, it should have ended long ago. It took me five whole years to finally recover, and my childhood obesity slowly left me. Occasionally, when I saw myself in the mirror with a beautiful face, I felt that it was unreal. When we finally landed, Nicole’s jubilant mood brought Winnie up a little. Looking at the two little adorable figures, there was an indescribable warmth in my heart. It would be good if we could find her brother. Then Winnie’s illness would be cured… Robin’s phone call came in shortly after I turned my phone on. “Luna, which exit are you at? Okay, stand still. I’ll go find you!” Robin always appeared when I needed him the most. We were closer than blood-related siblings. “Uncle Robin, Uncle Robin, I miss you so much!” “Uncle Robin, I miss you too!” Nicole was lively while Winnie was quiet. They both had different personalities. Soon, we arrived at the apartment building that Brother Robin had prepared. “I’m quite busy today and still have a meeting to attend. You don’t have much luggage and you used to live here. Go up and pack up and have a good rest since you’re tired from the flight.” “Goodbye Uncle Robin!” “Goodbye, Uncle Robin!” The two little girls said in unison. Just as I turned around and was about to enter, a man in a suit walked out. He politely held the glass door to let me through, but his eyes quickly sized me up from head to toe, giving me a dirty look. It was him, Peter! Back then, he used this gaze to size up my half-sister, Shana. I didn’t expect to meet him so soon. As the saying goes, enemies would often cross paths with each other. “Thank you,” I replied politely, leading my two babies inside. “Do you need help?” He jogged a few steps from the door and chased after me. “No, thanks.” The politeness in my tone faded as I kept walking. He tactfully stopped following. I could feel him watching us leave. “There’s a gorgeous woman that arrived in Kamel apartment today. She’s about 23 years old, with long curly blond hair, a high nose bridge, and a pair of mesmerizing eyes, especially with that mole at the corner of her eye. Oh yes, she also has a pair of twin sisters, about four or five years old. She should have just arrived today. Help me find out her background. I, Peter, definitely want this woman! What fiancée? I heard that ugly fat pig is coming back in the next few days to break off the engagement with me. She should have broken off long ago, damn it…” As the elevator doors closed, Peter’s voice, which sounded like a dog’s barking, finally went out of earshot. |

Genre: Romance SUMMARY: It’s a dark room. The man was tall and awe-inspiring, like an emperor. Every time their flesh met, it was as if he was carrying out a merciless punishment. They had a passionate night of sex, and their souls and bodies felt connected. Luna did not remember who the man was; she only had vague recollections of his extraordinary body and the long howl at the end of their love-making. It had sounded like a fierce wolf who had managed to let its soul free. Later on, the ugly and plump Luna discovered that she was pregnant on the eve of her wedding. Her fiancé, who had always regarded her with disgust, coerced her to break off the engagement, while her family regarded her as their shame. Luna agreed to break off the engagement so that she could give birth to the baby. However, her firstborn baby boy was taken away by her stepmother and sold at a high price to the rich Julie, who was in urgent need of a baby. Luna risked her life to give birth to two other daughters. With her brother’s help, she fled the hospital with her daughters. At that moment, Alpha, the heir of the richest financial group in Europe and who was rumored to be cruel, was in the hospital’s lounge. He was waiting for the birth of his first child. Ten months ago, Alpha was set up, and he had sex with a woman after he was drugged. He did not remember who the woman was, but Alpha knew that they were soulmates ever since that night. Hence, he wanted to find that woman! Just then, the daughter of a tycoon, Julie, approached him and said that she was pregnant. It was only then that he learned that he was going to be a father, but what puzzled him was that he did not feel anything with Julie. Five years later, when Luna brought her daughters back, they met. Not only did Luna regain her health and beauty after giving birth, she even gained superhuman strength. Right then, Luna only wanted to find her son and expose her stepmother’s scheme. But Alpha could not stop his heart from racing when he saw her. He could not stop himself from getting closer to Luna nor stop himself from doing the things he did around her. Even a simple smile from Luna was a sweet temptation for him. When someone hatched a scheme to kidnap Alpha’s precious son, Luna saved him. But before she could see his face clearly, Alpha took his son away. With wary eyes, he warned her, “Don’t even think about using the boy to seduce me.” Luna thought that he must be sick in the head. Sometime later, during a banquet, Alpha grabbed Luna’s arm and spoke gently to her, “I… My son likes you quite a lot. I mean… I like you too.” Luna stared at his red ears and smiled coquettishly, “Don’t even think about using your son to seduce me.” Chapter 1: A Strange Pregnancy Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios “You’re pregnant, Miss Luna.” “Impossible! What did you say?” The doctor’s words woke me up and I sat up in shock. How is this possible? I would know what I did. I never had any intimate contact with any of the opposite sex! And it’s impossible that sperm can be transmitted through the air! After the doctor handed me the test results, I was then convinced that it was true. “It’s already been five months, and the fetus is already formed. With the current condition of your body, you can’t opt for the labor induction surgery, so you can only choose to give birth,” the doctor said emotionlessly. I didn’t know how I got back, but my body felt like it didn’t belong to me. When my father found out, he was furious. He scattered the documents all over in the study room. After he pulled out all the surveillance cameras, he finally believed me. Five months ago, I was really unwell. I stayed at home and didn’t go anywhere! It didn’t take long for the story to spread like wildfire. No one believed my explanation. Those who were watching the show mocked and accused me behind my back. “Your stomach is already so big, and you still have the cheek to say that you didn’t have an affair with another man? Peter’s family is really pitiful. He was cheated on before they even got married. His reputation is ruined after getting engaged to such a person!” “She not only has an ordinary family background, but she is ugly and fat as well. And now she’s not satisfied with being able to marry into Peter’s family. Instead of obediently waiting to get married, she did this and got pregnant before getting married. This marriage must be canceled, right? No matter what, Peter’s family can’t marry such a fickle slut!” By the time Peter came to my house, I was already eight months pregnant. My stomach was bulging and it was unusually strenuous to walk. I couldn’t even see my toes while standing. He was led to the study as soon as he entered. I pricked my ears up to listen, and heard dad asked cautiously, “Peter, are you here to break off the engagement?” He was so intent on making the marriage happen. Peter’s answer made him heave a sigh of relief. “No, my grandfather said that this marriage must go through!” Peter’s family is a top-notch wealthy family, while our family can barely be considered a small family. If they really came to end the engagement, no one would blame their family for anything. But they actually didn’t want to end the engagement. What are they trying to do? Peter looked very dissatisfied with the arrangement and criticized me in front of my father. “She has always looked like a pig. I feel disgusted just looking at her. I wonder what kind of bastard she is carrying now. She made me a cuckold and she wants me to take responsibility for the child?” The father hurriedly gave an idea. “Peter, don’t worry. Once the child is born, I will send him away immediately!” Peter replied, “You said it. When the time comes, don’t let anything go wrong. Our family has lost face once, and we can’t lose it again. I can’t live with a child who isn’t mine!” Outside the door, I was really angry and scared. I didn’t care about anything else and pushed the door open and shouted, “No! My child isn’t going anywhere!” Over the past three months, I had come to terms with reality and slowly got used to my growing stomach. The child’s heartbeat grew stronger with each passing day. We were already connected. No one can take my child away! No one! A thought flashed across my mind. “If they don’t break off the engagement, I will!” Anger, disappointment, disgust… all sorts of feelings welled up in me. My heart felt like it was blocked by something and I couldn’t breathe. I felt a sharp pain in my stomach, then heard a splash and a stream of water flowing out from between my legs. I knew it was today… TBC |

Chapter 7: The Assembly of Talents! Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios With eyes darted towards the floor, Su Huiqing leaned against Su Ruohua’s car to wait for her. She had one hand in her pocket while the other played with her phone. She had a casual demeanor, yet it made one unable to move their gaze away. Even if Yu Xiangyang refused to admit, he was finally convinced that the Su Huiqing in front of him was different from the person he knew before. “How did you throw your phone earlier?” Yu Xiangyang could not help but ask as he curiously stared at her. Su Huiqing slowly twirled a bunch of hair and turned her head. With raised brows, she asked, “Did I throw my phone earlier?” When he heard her words, Yu Xiangyang had an impulse to vomit blood out of anger! 2The ability to lie through your teeth—Missy Su was second to none! No one had noticed it earlier, except for him. He was sure she made Zhang Mingxi kneel! “Alright, my mom is here.” Su Huiqing straightened her body and spun her phone one more round before placing it back into her pocket. “Thank you for sending me to the hospital today.” “It’s nothing.” Yu Xiangyang waved his hand. He then looked at Su Huiqing with an intrigued but gloating intent. “Aren’t you scared that brother Mingxi will ignore you after how you treated him today?” Su Huiqing squinted her eyes. “So?” ‘So?’ Yu Xiangyang momentarily paused. When he thought of the rumors that spread across Green City, he retracted his look of gloat. “In our circle of friends and relatives, who isn’t aware that Missy Su likes Young Master Zhang? She would even jump into the river for him…” “Enough, stop talking!” When she heard Yu Xiangyang’s words, a memory akin to what he said arose in Su Huiqing’s brain, and her head started to throb in pain. She raised her hand as a gesture for him to stop. She slowly took out a piece of chewing gum from her pockets and peeled the wrapper off before placing it into her mouth to chew. 1Yu Xiangyang immediately shut his mouth up. Seeing Su Huiqing’s look, he felt that he had touched her sensitive spot, and so he never mentioned this incident again. He was on Shen Anan’s side as before, all because she had good looks and an exceptional talent for business. She had a warm personality and was very polite, too. Even people like him, who have had professional training to become heirs, could not compare to her. He knew how frightening Shen Anan could be! 1On the other hand, Su Huiqing could not beat her in any aspect. So when you put the two of them together, they were far too different. How could such a person be the headmistress of the Zhang Family or be a suitable match for Zhang Mingxi?! 1Hence, when he knew Zhang Mingxi had intentions to reject the marriage, he put both his hands up in agreement. However, he suddenly pitied Missy Su now… Although it was his first time hanging out with Missy Su, he felt that she was far different from what the rumors pictured her to be. It seemed like she had many secrets on her, too. 1They stood on opposite sides and were both lost in their thoughts. Only when Su Ruohua had walked over did they snap back to their senses. “I should have made you dye your purple hair back to your natural color earlier! Look at how nice it looks now!” 2“Despite how I look now, you could still recognize me?” When she mentioned this incident, Su Huiqing was a little curious. “You could recognize me with just a glance?” “Did you think I wouldn’t be able to recognize you if you dyed your hair color? Su Huiqing, have you forgotten who gave birth to you?” Hearing her words, Su Ruohua furrowed her brows as she spoke loudly. Su Huiqing frowned. “That’s enough, mom! Be civil! Don’t get angry!” “If you possessed half of what Anan or Mingxi had, I wouldn’t have to be so worried for you.” Su Ruohua smoothed her brows and had a look of worry. “Mom, please rest assured. I will definitely be better than Shen Anan in the future. You don’t have to worry about me.” She chewed on the chewing gum and seemed indifferent, yet her eyes flashed a sharp glint. When those words came out of her mouth, Yu Xiangyang could not help but laugh. He rocked back and forth in laughter! He almost could not catch his breath. “Better than Anan? Do you know how much her net worth is now? With her talent and aptitude, only a few could surpass her in Green City. Su Huiqing, your words are the biggest joke I have heard this year!” 6Although he could not deny that Su Huiqing had a striking change, things such as talent were innate! If one did not possess the talent, then they will never have it! One could not blame Yu Xiangyang for having such a large reaction. She could not even read a financial statement, and yet, she had the audacity to claim that she would surpass the rising talent of the corporate world? Su Ruohua knocked on Su Huiqing’s head and her anger turned into laughter. “Surpass Shen Anan? Despite having real aptitude, you have quite a big mouth! Talk to me again once you can understand financial statements.” 1“Forget it, come with me. You have to think about how you will explain to your grandpa.” Su Ruohua opened the car door. “Your grandpa was the one who froze your card so I can’t help you with that. You just have to wait and attend the predecessor training. I heard that they hired a tutor from the International Association. This time, even if you are unwilling, you have to at least stay there for a week. If not, you can forget about getting your pocket money for the remaining half year!” 1In actual fact, Su Huiqing was not listening. Yu Xiangyang’s words echoed in her head and it was hard for her to snap back to her senses. ‘Shen Anan? Business genius?!’ Not knowing how to digest that piece of information, she frowned. Shen Anan’s proposal was unrealistic and had many loopholes. Her comrades, who are not interested in corporate affairs, could even point out errors in her proposal. But then again, they still considered that a business genius had written that proposal?! How lacking in talents was Green City? 5Su Huiqing had almost forgotten one thing. Where did she use to reside at one point in her life? It was at the International Association, for goodness’ sake! 1It was the center of influence where all the countries united! But then again, both good and evil were present there. Even a small fry from the International Association could easily be a reputable person in their respective countries. Not to mention, the large corporations in the International Association! It is a place swarmed with geniuses from all parts of the world! 1It was a place where world talents assemble! Many people dreamed of that place, too. It was a pity that most could only stroll around the International Association because getting into a certain family or influence party was just too difficult. Green City was a normal first-tier city in Country Z, so how could it compare to the International Association? 7Considering that Su Huiqing had a different position and outlook in life, unlike the people in Green City, she naturally had a different way of thinking. She felt that Shen Anan’s proposal had nothing valuable in it that even with a glance, she could see many loopholes. So how could such a trashy thing be supported by so many people? If anyone were to present a proposal like hers in the International Association, it would be considered as a piece of useless paper. Hence, she really could not see what was so good with Shen Anan. Thus, that led her to such a claim that she would surpass Shen Anan. It would even be modest of her to say that! 1It was just that her point of view was different. Moreover, even if they could see the loopholes in Shen Anan’s proposal, they still had to recognize Shen Anan’s qualifications. 2After all, Green City and the International Association were far different by not only a few levels. |
Chapter 7: Picking Someone Translator: EndlessFantasy Translation Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation If you any error ( broken links,etc….). Please keep reading on our extranovel.com Thank you readers! When Ling Ran stood at the doors of the Emergency Department, the first thing he felt was a feeling of agitation that came crashing into his face. Patients were all over the place and their records were written messily, their perplexed family members were everywhere, and information was thrown about in a chaotic manner. The machines were arranged haphazardly all over the place, while the nurses and doctors moved about helter-skelter… Then there were the inexperienced interns who stood in the room, completely baffled and out of place. “This is the Emergency Department.” Lei Beisha walked slowly from the corridor. He was practically considered the most relaxed individual in the emergency room, and he introduced Ling Ran to the department by saying, “Sickness comes indiscriminately, be it day or night. Therefore, the Emergency Department of the hospital has no sense of time.” “Huh? Director Lei?” the interns greeted him in a hurry, then looked enviously at Ling Ran. They knew that Lei Beisha most probably came for Ling Ran. The day before, many students had lined up trying to perform the white rat’s tail replantation, but none succeeded. On the other hand, their failures actually proved just how outstanding Ling Ran was. Despite the countless interns Lei Beisha had encountered, Ling Ran was indeed extraordinary. Asking the outstanding doctors in the Hand Surgery Department to demonstrate a tail replantation was a tradition that Yun Hua Hospital had for the interns. They used the most well-understood basic medical skill that the interns had—sutures—to prove how naive they were. The hospital understood the logic of using what you thought you were good at to defeat you. The only medical skill that an intern could say he or she had mastered was suturing. Hence, the hospital arranged for the tail replantation to serve as a warning for the interns. This tradition was unique as well as extraordinary, and it always worked in torturing the interns to the point where they cried for their parents. It worked from the beginning of its implementation to the present, and no incidents had ever occurred… …that was, until Ling Ran showed up. For that reason, even though Director Lei was displeased with Ling Ran’s ‘silly’ choice, he still rushed to the Emergency Department early in the morning. The interns in hospitals were as numerous as weeds, while top-caliber doctors were lacking in every hospital. After one night, Director Lei had recomposed himself. He nodded at the interns who greeted him and turned to look at Ling Ran. He asked, “What do you think of the Emergency Department?” “Not bad.” Ling Ran’s answer was crisp and concise. What else could he say? He could not, after all, say that he cared more about the system, nor could he say that he did not want to pay attention to the Director of Medical Education, right? In Director Lei’s eyes, Ling Ran was the type that would not repent until he was in trouble. However, if such an intern could master sutures so well, there was no telling if he could stitch a coffin out of a piece of paper should he be given one. Director Lei spoke to Ling Ran with exceptional patience. “I’ve just introduced you to Director Huo, but don’t expect any special treatment. There are many things to be done in the Emergency Department, and they have never liked interns. As for the rest of you, work hard and be nice with your words so that you won’t suffer.” The interns were tearing up with gratitude, thinking that the director had finally remembered them. But if he had already greeted the Head of Department, then was it even possible for Ling Ran to not receive special treatment. When Director Lei left, the interns were still overwhelmed with emotions. They felt impressed but also indignant when it came to Ling Ran. “Interns, come with me.” A nurse moved hastily to the doors. After she finished taking the attendance, she turned and walked speedily away. The interns were at the bottom of the food chain in the ecosystem of the hospital; their positions were lower than the nurses, so they followed her obediently. After they passed by the receptionist counter and the transfusion room, the dozens of interns were then led to the office next to the resuscitation room. In the office, there were seven to eight men in white robes. When they heard the door open, they all turned to look. “Miss Li, they sent people here again?” “Oh, new members.” “Miss Li, do you need any help?” The men in white robes were so passionate towards the nurse that it made the interns shocked. The small nurse, however, ignored the men in white robes. She turned to the interns and said, “Stay here. If there’s no one calling for you, don’t leave this place on your own accord. You are not allowed to meet the patients, you are also not allowed to answer the patient’s questions and their family members’ questions.” After that, the nurse replied the men with an “I’m busy” before she turned and left… leaving behind a room full of wailing men. “Are you interns, too?” The medical student who first entered the room observed the office with much confusion. Most of the men in white robes did not even bother answering the newcomer’s question. Only a mature-looking one chose to answer him flatly, “We’re all residents, we’re here to help.” “Ah, you guys are here to try your luck in getting to operate on someone.” The ones who knew what was going on went straight for the ugly truth. The mature-looking doctor’s face changed, and he ignored the one who spoke. The interns also felt that it was pointless to continue talking to these doctors, so they gathered into a group and whispered among themselves. “What’s the purpose of getting your hands on the operating table?” Ling Ran asked seriously after he found a place to sit down. He seemed oblivious to the cold and tense atmosphere in the office. Everyone’s gaze was trained on him, but not the slightest change was present in Ling Ran’s facial expression. “Wait till you’re all housemen, then you’ll know how difficult it is for you to get appointed to surgeries,” said the mature resident lazily. He then continued, “But if you go to a trashy hospital, no one will even care about the number of surgeries you perform.” The interns who were already troubled by the prospect of unemployment immediately glared at him in anger. The residents did not show any weakness as well. The underpaid doctors in the office had the same motive as the interns; they were all there at the Emergency Department to get a chance to perform surgeries. The number of surgeries performed represented the experience required for a surgeon to level up. Junior doctors, the newbies in gaming terms, did not have the chance to get into the operating theater to tackle the difficult cases—the Bosses in games. Therefore, they could only try their luck in the Emergency Department. The competition was already fierce, but once the interns entered the place, it was just like adding oil to fire on the battlefield. Only Ling Ran continued to sit alone in the middle. He took out his phone indifferently and played his game. [Five seconds left before the enemy arrives on the battlefield. Be prepared to launch a full assault…] The words in the game broke the tense atmosphere in an instant. Both parties looked at Ling Ran and were stunned for a few seconds. Once they realized that he did not even care about the situation, they all withdrew their gazes. The interns who were new there retreated to their places quietly. Their spirits were a bit low and the intern who just mentioned that the residents were trying to get a chance to operate felt more depressed as he said, “We’re done for. Yun Hua didn’t separate us from them.” “That doesn’t mean we’re doomed.” The interns were also rather confident, and weren’t willing to listen to depressing words. An intern who knew the inner workings of the hospital whispered, “If we’re separated from them, we could follow the doctor in charge of checkups and do a few things. We might not be able to do any practical work, but at least we could observe them. But now, look at this! Why would the nurses choose us but not the doctors? I guess we’re most probably going to sit in this room till our bums hurt.” “Hey, why are the nurses picking the doctors?” “Why not? Do you expect the department head to recruit his men here? He’s so busy that he needs someone else to help him out, what else did you expect?” The intern who knew the inner workings of the hospital was a bit unhappy. He took out his phone and spoke while he switched it on. “Well, just bear with it for a few days. We can wait till they’re finished with everything first. I’m sure they’ll arrange some hard labor for us after that.” “You mean we should just wait in vain for the next few days?” “The residents at least know a bit more compared to us new interns who haven’t even received our graduation certs. If even they don’t have surgeries waiting for them, it would be much less probable for us. What else are we supposed to do other than wait?” “If I had known about this, I would’ve chosen the Department of Internal Medicine. At least, I could have learned to write medical records there.” The intern who knew the inner workings of the hospital was also angry. “In the hospital, the interns’ time is the most worthless. I do believe that Yun Hua is the kind of hospital that doesn’t like to give chances to interns—” *Bang!* While they were talking, the door of the office was rammed open. In came another small nurse who moved swiftly into the room, she carried some medications with her. A few of the doctors immediately stood up and greeted her by calling her “Nurse Wang” or “Pretty Wang”. The reserved ones sat upright, showing their smiles. For the sake of getting practical experience, these young doctors had all but lined up in rows to bow to the nurse and show her respect. Nurse Wang scanned them, and just as she was about to pick someone, she noticed the handsome Ling Ran in one glance. Her eyes very obviously landed on him for a moment. Nurse Wang asked Ling Ran, “Do you know how to perform sutures?” Ling Ran was stunned for a moment, then said with a nod, “Yes.” “Then follow me.” Nurse Wong did not wait to listen to his reply. She turned and left in a hurried manner, leaving the others disappointed with her choice… They were also disappointed that they lived in a world where the handsome and pretty ones always had the upper hand. |
Chapter 30: Mo Jingshen Directly Placed Her on His Lap Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations “Why did you come so suddenly? You really shocked me!” Ji Nuan walked up, going around Ji Mengran to stick close to his side. Mo Jingshen smoothly held her hand and then lowered his eyes to look at her. “Why are your hands so cold?” “En, it’s a little cold tonight. Earlier in my room, I forgot to turn on the heater. Just nice, since you’re here, you can help me warm up my hands,” Ji Nuan said with a smile, transforming into a spoiled little wife in a split second. “Brother Jing Shen, tonight will you…” Ji Mengran remained a little excited over Mo Jingshen’s visit. Regardless of how they ignored her, she still wanted to speak to him. Ji Hongwen suddenly coughed, clearing his throat. His face was unhappy. “Meng Ran, look at what you’re wearing! Jing Shen is your brother-in-law! How can you come down wearing so little?!” It was only then that everyone noticed the sleep dress that Ji Mengran was wearing. It was almost like a sexy type of lingerie. It was thin and short, revealing a significant portion of her shoulders and collarbone. Even her chest was somewhat exposed. The skirt could only cover barely half of her thigh. It could not get any shorter. His attention was all focused on Mo Jingshen earlier. After seeing what she wore, Ji Hongwen’s face became as black at the bottom of a pan. “Dad, earlier on I was preparing to sleep. When I heard that Brother Jing Shen had come, I just ran out…” Ji Mengran was explaining when a thin coat suddenly landed on her head. She tugged down the clothing on her head, turning around to look at Ji Nuan, only to discover that it was the coat she had worn coming down. “Wear it. You might not be afraid of the cold, but all of us feel cold watching you.” Ji Nuan’s voice was calm. “Thank you, Big Sister…” Ji Mengran suddenly could not think of anything else to say. She secretly glanced at Mo Jingshen, but his gaze never once landed on herself. Not even mentioning her legs, he did not even look at her shoulders. “Aiya, it’s so cold.” Ji Nuan suddenly trembled. “I didn’t think it would be so cold after taking off my coat. Dad, it’s not early anymore. You guys should go to sleep soon. Jing Shen and I will return to my room now!” “Brother-in-law has only just showed up, and Big Sister is already dragging him back to the room?” Ji Mengran mumbled. Ji Hongwen glared at Ji Mengran. “You have so much to say? Hurry back to your room and put on more clothes!” Seeing that everyone was standing there, Auntie Qin spoke up, “Why don’t I go to the kitchen and make some supper. The weather now is rather cold. It’s good to eat something warm before sleeping.” “Yes, yes, yes, Auntie Qin hurry up and go cook…” Ji Mengran turned back, raising her hand in approval. “You guys go ahead. I’ve eaten too much tonight, and I’m not hungry. Jing Shen has also been busy at the company all day. It’s already so late, we won’t eat with you ~.” Ji Nuan calmly held onto Mo Jingshen’s hand, directly preventing Ji Mengran from having any opportunity to approach. “All right, all of you go back to your room to rest. Auntie Qin, there’s no need to cook,” Ji Hongwen sternly said. Hearing this, Auntie Qin immediately paused her steps toward the kitchen. It was so rare for Ji Mengran to see Mo Jingshen. She wanted to find an opportunity to speak to him. However, she could not even sit down with him for supper, how could she have the opportunity to speak to him alone properly? Ji Nuan’s gaze seemed to hold no concern as she glanced at Ji Mengran. She ran down dressed this way. Based on her father’s traditional character, how could he not get angry. My dear good sister, you are truly too short-sighted . Your intentions will be easily revealed this way. Ji Mengran unhappily glanced back, only to see that Ji Nuan was softly speaking to Mo Jingshen. In front of their family, the two of them actually whispered into each other’s ears. They truly did not know how to be embarrassed. Typically, Mo Jingshen seemed so aloof. That he would give in so much to Ji Nuan truly made Ji Mengran angrier the more she looked at them. However, right now, she could not say anything nor could she do anything. In the past, the moment Ji Nuan came home, she would argue with their father. He would then often take her as an obedient example to compare to Ji Nuan’s immature acts. After that, Ji Nuan would be so mad that she would leave slamming the door. She would not give any face to the Ji family, and their father would always be mad to the point where he wanted to throw her out of the family altogether. However, right now, could it be due to changes in Feng Shui? Ji Nuan had become a considerate, warm cotton jacket while she had only come downstairs in a sleeping gown and was lectured in front of so many people. Exactly which capable person did Ji Nuan receive advice from? Everyone could clearly see that Ji Nuan was arrogant and proud, yet no one hated her. Shen Heru saw that Ji Nuan and Mo Jingshen had already gone upstairs and quietly spoke at the side, “Nuan Nuan, this child, she’s still so immature. Jing Shen came in the middle of the night, at the very least, he has to speak to the elders a little to have a conversation as a proper family. She still hasn’t grown up. This caused even Jing Shen to seem disrespectful of the elders.” “Auntie Shen is right. Dad, earlier my words were to say that Big Sister has gone too far,” Ji Mengran mumbled softly. Ji Hongwen sternly glared at them. “Still talking? Don’t you see what time it is? Are there words that must be said when it’s so late?” Seeing that he was angry, Shen Heru immediately softened her attitude and did not speak anymore. Ji Nuan, that little wench, was becoming harder and harder to deal with. Seeing that Ji Hongwen was so protective towards her, she would speak less just in case. “Dad…” “Shut up! Return to your room!” Ji Hongwen turned back, glaring even more sternly at Ji Mengran. Ji Mengran immediately retracted her expression. After being shouted at by her father, she was fearful and did not dare to speak any further. She felt slightly wronged and glanced back upstairs for a while. She bit onto her lips unhappily before stomping back to her own room. —- The room door opened and close. Inside the bedroom, the light was warm and gentle. “Why did you suddenly come? You didn’t even mention it earlier.” Ji Nuan turned back and immediately glared at the instigator who caused several people in the family to explode in stupidity. “Didn’t you say that you missed me?” Mo Jingshen lowered his head the moment she turned back. Ji Nuan was slightly dazed, staring at the approaching clear and handsome face. There was less than half a centimeter of distance between them. This sudden closeness caused his breath to land on her face. Her heartbeat immediately sped up. She was conscious of the fact that they were at the Ji family home. Even if the door was closed, Ji Nuan still instinctually raised her hand, wanting to push him aside. In the end, not only did she not push him away, her elbow was held by him, and she was brought to the bedside. Mo Jingshen directly tugged her onto his lap, wrapping his arms around her waist and locking her in his embrace, “Earlier on in the phone, you mentioned wanting to strip my clothes. Now that I’m standing in front of you, what’s wrong, you can’t even raise your head?” Ji Nuan pushed against his elbow. The bravery she had earlier when she teased him escaped to god-knows-where. After pushing for a long time, he still would not move. She helplessly slapped his elbow, turning to look at him unhappily. “Who asked you to come so suddenly? I couldn’t prepare my heart at all.” He lowly chuckled by her ear. “Are you sure you don’t welcome me? Then shall I leave right now and let you hold Mr. Bear until daylight?” At the same time, Mo Jingshen’s gaze met with the big white bear that was placed slanted on the bed, his lips curving up in a smile. Chapter 29: Send the Charming One Out, and the Mortal World Is Covered with Smoke and Fire Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations Ji Nuan rushed back to her bedside, picking up the phone to answer the call. “Can’t sleep?” Mo Jingshen’s voice came from the phone. Under the beautiful night sky, for some reason, his voice caused her heart to ripple. The moment Ji Nuan heard his voice, her whole body softened as she laid back down on the bed. She hugged a pillow. “You saw my message?” “En.” “It’s already so late. Have you returned back to the Yu Garden?” “No. There was an unforeseen issue with the overseas partnership. Just ended a meeting.” Mo Jingshen’s voice was low. “Then you should go rest early. Now that I’m not home, you’re going to start burning the midnight oil again, aren’t you?” Ji Nuan could not resist nagging, “I should just stick by your side every day. The moment it’s night, I can strip you and press you onto the bed so that you can’t go anywhere. Don’t even talk about work, you won’t even be allowed to enter the study!” It was silent on the phone for a moment. After that, a low, warm chuckle was heard. “When do you plan to strip me?” “I’m speaking seriously! It’s for you to sleep early!” Mo Jingshen smiled. “But I look forward more to you personally taking off my clothes before sleeping.” “…” Ji Nuan buried her face into her pillow, listening to the sound of movement through the phone. She silently sighed. She was clearly the one who had taken the initiative to tease him. Why did it seem like he was the one who had ended up teasing her instead? He seemed to have exited the company. She could vaguely hear his movements. He was most likely at the company’s underground parking lot. Ji Nuan could not bear to hang up the phone but also did not wish to disturb his driving. She laid on her stomach, squinting her eyes as she spoke, “Put on your headphones before you drive. You don’t have to chat with me. When you drive at night, you have to focus on safety.” “Sleepy?” he asked. “No, I can’t sleep. Maybe it’s because it’s been too long since I came back to the Ji home.” Ji Nuan lazily laid on the bed as she spoke, “It’s so strange. Even though there’s not much difference between the bed here and Yu Garden’s bed, but when I lie here, I just can’t sleep.” “It’s most likely because the bed is lacking me.” Ji Nuan curved her eyes in a smile, reaching out to pull the big white stuffed bear she always used to hug into her arms. She was silent for a moment. After not speaking for so long, she did not know if he was already arriving back at the Yu Garden, but the two of them did not hang up. She lazily said, “Uu, it seems like I can only let Mr. Bear hold me to sleep tonight~.” Mo Jingshen directly asked, “What Mr. Bear?” “It’s… aside from you who is my legal husband, the only one who has the right to climb onto my bed… Mr. Bear.” Ji Nuan pinched the bear in her arms as she spoke before looking at the time once more. She smiled. “All right, focus on driving. I won’t disturb you anymore. See you tomorrow.” After speaking, Ji Nuan was about to hang up. However, because she really could not bear to, she thought she would wait for him to hang up instead and pressed the phone back to her ear. Yet, after half a day, Mo Jingshen still did not hang up. Could it be that he was waiting for her to hang up first? Ji Nuan smiled. Just as she was about to move the phone away, she suddenly heard Mo Jingshen’s low voice, “Come out, open the door.” “…” “…” “…” “!!!” Ji Nuan took half a day before clambering off the bed, rushing towards the window to look out. Seeing white headlights flash by the Ji family home’s metal gates, she could guess that the vague shape of a car in the dark was Mo Jingshen’s car. Ji Nuan was shocked. “That car is… Is it you? You-you came?” “Mrs. Mo, my clothes are already prepared. Whenever you wish to take them off, you are welcome.” Mo Jingshen’s voice held some humor with intentions she could not guess. Before Ji Nuan came back to herself, the call was disconnected. Ji Nuan was in a daze. So, Mo Jingshen really came? The Mo Corporation was not close to the Ji family home, how did he arrive so quickly? He-he-he-he actually came directly tonight? —- At the front porch of the Ji home, the moment the helpers and housekeepers saw that it was Mo Jingshen’s car, they all rushed forward to open the door and welcome him. Right now, everyone at home had yet to sleep. Hearing of his arrival, Ji Hongwen directly went downstairs. Even Shen Heru and Ji Mengran were shocked when they heard of Mo Jingshen’s arrival. Ji Nuan was the only who was in a daze for a long time as she stared at the phone screen that had already turned dark. Once she came back to herself, she turned and ran out. “Brother Jing Shen!” Ji Mengran had just showered. She wore a thin pink spaghetti strapped sleeping dress as she went to welcome him. “Why didn’t you say anything before coming?” After entering through the door, Ji Mengran directly stood in front of him, blocking his view of everything else. Mo Jingshen coldly glanced at her and did not pay her much attention. He turned to look at Ji Hongwen who was walking over, speaking politely, “Dad.” “Why did you come at such a time.” Ji Hongwen clearly did not expect that Mo Jingshen would come. “Did you not return to the Yu Garden? You came here directly from work?” Mo Jingshen directly walked in. His gaze calm. “The company isn’t far from here. Since Ji Nuan is here, I directly came here.” “Ah, Nuan Nuan only came back to the Ji home for one night, but CEO Mo already misses her?” Shen Heru cut in with a strange tone of voice. She really could not understand how Ji Nuan, that brat, managed to have so much luck. Not only did she manage to smoothly marry someone like Mo Jingshen, she even managed to have him care so much about her. After demanding for a divorce for half a year, she still remained as Mrs. Mo. The moment Ji Nuan came downstairs, she heard Shen Heru’s unkind tone. This woman really wore a mask when speaking to her, and then placed on a different one when she was not around. “Since you’ve come, then rest here. Auntie Qin, call Ji Nuan down.” Ji Hongwen’s mood was rather good. Both his daughter and son-in-law were here, this was truly rare. Auntie Qin nodded her head, but the moment she turned around, she saw that Ji Nuan had already come down. “Eldest Miss, Mr. Mo is here.” Auntie Qin looked at her happily with a smile. “I know~ We were just on the phone just now~.” Ji Nuan did not conceal anything with her words. The moment she came downstairs, she directly walked over. The first thing she saw was Mo Jingshen who wore a fitted suit along with a black windbreaker. This man… How could he be so good looking… A simple windbreaker could also be worn so beautifully. She did not even have the time to meet eyes with him when she heard Ji Mengran’s voice forcefully cutting in, “Brother Jing Shen, it must be very cold outside today, isn’t it? We’ve already entered autumn for many days. My sister didn’t pass her cold to you when she fell sick, did she? Don’t just focus on your work, you have to take care of yourself as well!” Mo Jingshen coldly made an “En” sound. From start to finish, his gaze never landed on Ji Mengran. Instead, it looked past Ji Mengran who was blocking his view, focused on Ji Nuan who was walking over. His appearance was handsome and perfect. He stood there, calmly looking at her. All of his focus was placed on her alone. After entering through the door, everyone could see Mo Jingshen’s distant and cold attitude. It was only when he saw Ji Nuan that everyone understood the meaning of ‘send the charming one out, and the mortal world is covered with smoke and fire.’ |
Chapter 6: A King Will Not Meet A King Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios In the hospital room, Su Ruohua sat on the chair. Unlike Su Huiqing’s lazy attitude earlier, Su Ruohua straightened her back and looked very elegant. “Anan, how is your recovery?” Shen Anan looked at Shen Ruohua and could not help but think of Su Huiqing. Between the two of them, one was rough and stupid while the other was intelligent and graceful. They did not seem like a pair of mother and daughter at all. Just like the rumors, compared to Su Huiqing, she was more like her… At the thought of it, her heart clenched and she immediately lowered her head to hide the dark glint she had in her eyes. “The doctor said I may not be able to go to school for a few days.” She was a good student who had ranked in the top ten in school. She never once missed a lesson, especially now that it was a critical period for third-year students. Examinations were just around the corner, and knowing this made Shen Anan a little frantic. She was worried that her grades might plummet down all because of this incident. 2“Focus on recuperating. I will settle things in school and hire a private tutor for you. Since you are in your third year, you cannot miss your lessons.” Su Ruohua looked at Shen Anan, and she suggested, “Is that alright with you?” Shen Anan could not hide her happiness and never thought that Su Ruohua would fancy her so much. She tried to suppress the elated feelings in her heart and said, “No problem. Thank you, auntie!” “It’s a small matter.” Su Ruohua smiled and took out a document file from her bag. Shen Anan took the file and scanned it. It was the proposal she suggested to the Su Corporation earlier. What could possibly be the reason behind it? “I have pondered about something for a long while. Since you are still in your third year in high school, you should focus more on your studies and end your cooperation with the Su Corporation. This will be good for both of us.” Su Ruohua smoothened her brows and smiled. “I will transfer the money for breach of contract to your card. Our Su Corporation did you wrong this time. So, if you want any compensation, feel free to let your dad inform me.” 3Shen Anan forced out a smile, but her carefully trimmed nails had already pierced the paper that it dug into her palms. “I understand, auntie.” “Okay, that is all. Qingqing is still waiting for me downstairs. I have already greeted the hospital director, so please just focus on recuperation.” After giving out some advice, Su Ruohua took her bag and left. While on the bed, Shen Anan’s face turned sour. She swatted the cup beside her. What did she mean by ‘focus on your studies?’ Was it because Su Huiqing did not like her?! Shen Anan gritted her teeth and hated Su Huiqing to the core! “Cheng Yue, why are the heavens so unfair? In which way am I inferior to Su Huiqing? Just because she is the missy of the Su Family, she can easily trample over me?!” 4The girl who had pushed the door open to enter, heaved a sigh before she comforted her. “The Su Family are all intelligent people. I heard that Madam Su earned a scholarship funded by the city and went to the capital to further her studies. So, how could Su Huiqing be so dumb? But then again, you should remember that Old Master Su highly values talented people. How can Su Huiqing compare to you in that aspect?! If they don’t want to use your proposal, then so be it. You already have a good reputation on your shoulder so you don’t have to bother about other stuff anymore. Do you know how popular you are in Green City? Even Old Master Su complimented your proposal! Su Huiqing, that piece of trash, can’t even compare to a fingernail of yours. Even her fiancé’s heart is with you, so what are you so scared of? Su Huiqing should be the scared one! If it wasn’t, she would not have pushed you down the stairs out of hatred and jealousy.” 3Thinking that Cheng Yue’s words made sense, Shen Anan calmed down. – At the underground car park, Su Huiqing lazily had her hands in her pockets and she looked bored. “Missy Su, aren’t you being too dumb?” Yu Xiangyang followed her from behind and with a look of pity, he stared at her. “But I can’t blame you either because even my dad admitted that she is very talented in corporate affairs. I have had professional training since I was young, and yet I don’t understand how her brain works. I can’t even beat her in that aspect.” Yu Xiangyang heaved a sigh. “What proposal does she have? Tell me about it?” Su Huiqing raised her brows. “Even if I said it, will you even understand?” Yu Xiangyang looked at her with a hint of contempt. Who in Green City was not wholly aware that the Missy Su of the Su Family could not even understand a financial statement!? Su Huiqing paused her footsteps and glanced at Yu Xiangyang. She spun the phone with one hand while she placed her other hand in her pockets. She had a lazy look, yet her lips curled up. She drawled, “Speak.” Yu Xiangyang’s legs went wobbly like jelly again. Damn! Was this domineering woman the rumored Su Huiqing who was beyond hope?! 1He suspected the rumors. However, once Shen Anan’s proposal was mentioned, he coughed. “Anan’s proposal was indeed a novel idea. Su Corporation is a big company and with abundant capital. Not only does making use of the debt leverage to increase the investment returns make new stocks favorable, but it will open many markets as well…” “Just these?” Su Huiqing raised her brow and remained uninterested. “It is bold and imaginative, yet unrealistic.” She gave a critique of seven words. “What do you know? Forget it, why am I arguing with a slowpoke?!” Yu Xiangyang scratched his head and found her beyond redemption. “Missy Su, I forgot that you did not train to inherit your family business. Hence, you do not understand this jargon. Just take it as though I’m spouting nonsense.” Su Huiqing squinted her eyes to look at Yu Xiangyang. The bored look she had on her face disappeared and the smile on her lips turned cold. Her eyes, on the other hand, turned sharp. “Is that how others think of me?” “Since when were you not?” Yu Xiangyang had yet to return to his senses when he realized she had already walked far away. He quickly followed up with hesitation. Just now, Su Huiqing’s presence and strength… Oh, my gosh! Was she the rumored Missy Su who was a loser? They must be kidding him?! After they left, two people walked out of the car beside them. The person who was in front had an elegant yet slothful demeanor. But at the same time, the man had a hint of nobility such that even the dim car park could not cover the shining radiance from him. They were the people Yu Xiangyang met in the lift. “Missy Su is dense and dumb,” Chu Xuning said in a calm voice. But the man beside him raised his exquisite brows, and his black eyes had a hint of curiosity. “Just now, the seven words she spoke hit the nail on the head. Also, that gaze was sharp and wise. She did not seem like a dumb person at all. Xuning, you should correct your information sources.” “I never expected that she was Missy Su. She was different from the last time I met her.” Chu Xuning stroked his chin. “She is indeed interesting. If we didn’t come down just in time, we wouldn’t have witnessed all of that.” What did he mention recently? Missy Su was even more frightening than what the rumors said her to be. Whether it was the looks or capability, she could not compare to that illegitimate daughter. He never thought he would smack himself in the face so fast! 3“Oh right, Young Master Yu. How is the arrest for that fugitive going?” Chu Xuning suddenly recalled something. “Why are there more and more fugitives around? And they are all fugitives from overseas! They even escaped past the International Criminal Court. Even I have my hands tied. So how can they escape so easily?” “Have you heard of the shocking recent international news?” Yu Shijin turned his head and his eyes narrowed. “The head of the Rapid Fire Mercenary Regiment died.” 6“Rapid Fire Mercenary Regiment? No wonder these fugitives are so arrogant, no one is around to frighten them.” Chu Xuning froze before he snapped back to his senses after a moment. “It is such a pity! I initially thought that we can meet up with them in the international arena so that you two kings can meet each other, but I never expected…” TBC... Chapter 5: You Have to Know Where You Stand Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios With Zhang Mingxi’s words, Yu Xiangyang, who stood near Su Huiqing, drew a sharp breath. He had always known that Zhang Mingxi had feelings for Shen Anan. Who wouldn’t when Shen Anan was capable? Even children from reputable families who had been nurtured since they were young were not as capable as Shen Anan. With this quality, Shen Anan was a dazzling one. However, even if he liked Shen Anan, Zhang Mingxi was still Su Huiqing’s fiancé, and yet he had used such a disgusted gaze on her. 3Although he might not have said it out loud, Yu Xiangyang believed that Su Huiqing did not push Shen Anan down the stairs. If she wanted to deal with Shen Anan, Shen Anan would not have suffered such a small injury. That was one thing that Su Huiqing said right. Thinking until that point, Yu Xiangyang looked at Su Huiqing. She had her head lowered and he suddenly pitied her. “Brother Mingxi, she may not have done it.” Yu Xiangyang furrowed his brows and looked at Zhang Mingxi. “Could there be a misunderstanding somewhere?” “Misunderstanding?” Zhang Mingxi coldly laughed. His sharp eyes glanced at Yu Xiangyang and recalled the scene he had seen outside the hospital room earlier on. His gaze had a slight sense of probe. “Xiangyang, didn’t you unconditionally believe that she had pushed Anan?” Yu Xiangyang felt a little embarrassed because he believed that such an incident had happened. But after what he had experienced earlier on today, his mind suddenly shifted to the thought that Su Huiqing was not as bad as what he thought her to be. All the things she did before was just an illusion she created. 1She could fabricate anything, but her righteous appearance could deceive no one. Su Huiqing did not care about what the other two were thinking and only squinted her eyes. Who was she?! She was an uncrowned queen in the world of mercenaries. She was the only person to pass the world-class purgatory training! She would proceed to any places in battle, and the side that she took part with always turned the tide around despite their weaker forces! No one knew her limits. Even the number one assassin in the world respectfully called her ‘great-aunt.’ Because of her reputation, even the big shots in the world would turn pale at the mention of her name. She never expected that the moment she opened her eyes again, she became a young miss who was a ‘laughingstock’ in high society. Whenever she thought about that, Su Huiqing would pull a soft laugh. She took out her phone and played with it. At the very least, she was clear that she was at a hospital in Green City and not the international battlefield! Her fair slender fingers continuously spun the black phone. At that moment, the phone had already become a black, blurry, circular arc. It made Yu Xiangyang, who saw that scene, had his jaws wide open! At that moment. The phone which she was spinning into a round arc suddenly received an external force. It swiftly left her hands! ‘Bang!’ ‘Boom!’ It all happened in an instant! Yu Xiangyang could only rub his eyes before looking at Su Huiqing in disbelief. That black phone was still being spun in her hands. It was as though everything that happened earlier was just his imagination! But, in front of her, Zhang Mingxi was kneeling on one knee and his brows were in sharp pain. He looked disoriented. Su Huiqing stopped her hand movements. Thus, the spinning of the phone also stopped. She placed the phone back into her pockets and stretched. She then sauntered over to Zhang Mingxi with her thin lips curled into a devilish smile. “Su Huiqing’s fiancé had a secret affair with her younger sister. Zhang Mingxi, what do you think of this news headline?” After her words left her mouth, Shen Anan, who lay on the hospital bed, already had her face as pale as a white sheet of paper! On the other hand, Zhang Mingxi continued to kneel on the ground. It was not because he did not want to get up, but his legs were still numb that he could not stand up at all. At that moment, when he heard Su Huiqing’s words, his pupils constricted! Zhang Mingxi never cared about Su Huiqing before. Because they were childhood sweethearts, no one knew Su Huiqing better than him. She was a useless piece of junk and was dumb beyond hope. She could not even distinguish the company’s regular accounts, and at any instance of a little praise, she would feel elated. With such a dumb personality, Shen Anan would trample her to the ground sooner or later! Hence, how could such a dumb person say such words? 2Su Huiqing walked to Shen Anan’s bedside and slowly bent down. She squinted her eyes and whispered into Shen Anan’s ear with a voice both of them could only hear. “Shen Anan, I have very little patience and a bad temper. My mum is coming soon, so know your place. If not, I will let you know what it means to be as good as dead.” Startled, Shen Anan turned her head to look at Su Huiqing. She then embarrassingly and tightly gripped the snowy white bedsheets. She only loosened her grip after a long while. At that moment, the hospital room door was pushed open. A black figure walked in. Grace, luxurious, beautiful. This was the first impression that Su Huiqing had when she saw this woman. “Didn’t you say that you were coming tomorrow?” Su Huiqing took out a piece of chewing gum and put it into her mouth. She placed one hand in her pockets and her other hand a stool over for this woman. “Mom, please sit.” “Stand properly!” Su Ruohua furrowed her brows, and though she looked gentle, she still had a hint of sternness to her. “Look at what you have become with this undisciplined attitude!” 2This was the first time a person had ordered Su Huiqing around like that, and she felt a little strange. She glanced at Su Ruohua and saw the helplessness hidden in her eyes and froze. Hence, the wanton and unrestrained queen of mercenaries, who never listened to others, stood straight for the first time! If this news was made known to others, a bunch of people might drop their glasses! “Auntie.” At that moment, Shen Anan’s weak and tender voice rang. “Sorry, I fell down the stairs by myself. It had nothing to do with big sister.” Damn! Was she sure that she did not mean the other way with her tone? Su Huiqing’s eyes dangerously narrowed. Few only dared to go against her in secret! “I know. All of you, please head out. I want to discuss something in private with Anan.” Su Huiqing never expected for Su Ruohua to have such a calm reaction, and she even had no intention to blame Su Huiqing. She turned to face Su Huiqing and said, “Wait for me at the car park downstairs.” – Four people walked out of the hospital room. Zhang Mingxi tried to bear the numb feeling in his legs and walked towards Su Huiqing. He looked down at her and coldly smirked. “Su Huiqing, you must know where you stand! Don’t even mention the Shen Corporation for the Su Corporation will never end up in your hands in the future! Seeing as how Auntie Su fancies Anan, do you think you still have a place to stand in the Su Corporation? There will come a day where you will regret how you treated Anan today!” 4With that, he observed Su Huiqing’s face. She kept a calm demeanor and was not the least startled. ‘Pui!’ She was indeed dumb to not even think of such a smart point! Zhang Mingxi could not be bothered with Su Huiqing and proceeded to the lift straight away. After he had left, Yu Xiangyang came back to his senses as well. He glanced at Su Huiqing, and he could not help but blurt, “Brother Mingxi is not entirely wrong, for life is full of ups and downs. With how intelligent Anan is, she will definitely inherit the Shen Corporation. She will also hold shares in the Su Corporation. You should remember how much your family’s Old Master cares about talent. And with that, won’t it be… a bad idea to treat Anan like how you did earlier on? If she remembers these incidents in the future, you won’t have anyone to protect you and your life may end up in a terrible state.” 1“You’ll never know who will have the last laugh. How can you be so sure that Shen Anan will inherit the Shen Corporation and Su Corporation?” Su Huiqing patted Yu Xiangyang’s shoulder and slowly left. 1Not only does Shen Anan want the Shen Corporation, but she is also eyeing the Su Corporation? Su Huiqing curled her lips. She would make her spit out everything she ate from her! |
Chapter 6: To the Emergency Department Translator: EndlessFantasy Translation Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation If you any error ( broken links,etc….). Please keep reading on our extranovel.com Thank you readers! In the simulation training space. Lei Beisha was in such a shock that he could no longer keep his mouth shut and his jaw hung open. The suturing techniques in the Hand Surgery Department of Yun Hua Hospital were top-notch. To put it crudely: most of the doctors in the other departments did not meet the required standards set for hand surgeons in Yun Hua Hospital to perform surgery on the operating table when it came to suturing. Of course, the interns were even more unqualified. Even if they did train for many years, some students still could not perform tail replantation surgeries on white rats. Some who realized that had already chosen internal medicine instead, and those who could not see their own standards mostly ended up as subpar doctors who would only bring trouble to the world. After staying in the Medical Education Department for more than a decade, this was the first time he had encountered a student like Ling Ran. “Lower Groove Clinic?”Although Lei Beisha did not believe that a clinic could have brought up such a highly-skilled doctor, he still remembered that name. The demonstration of suturing techniques ended rather abruptly. The constantly serious Lei Beisha was even smiling as he watched Ling Ran walk out of the operating theater. He asked him, “Ling Ran, your mastery of sutures is pretty good. So, for the next rotation, which department would you like to go for?” This meant that Ling Ran was given a choice to pick the department he wanted first. The students all looked at Ling Ran with envious faces, but none of them said anything. During their lecture, both Lei Beisha and Kang Jiuliang had mentioned that whoever could perform tail replantation on white rats would be offered a housemanship. At the very least, there was a high possibility that they would be able to stay in Yun Hua Hospital’s elite surgical department—the Hand Surgery Department. Kang Jiuliang, too, was gazing at Ling Ran with a smile. The harsh treatment of hospitals towards new members was notorious. Internships were also as harsh as apprenticeships during the Middle Ages—full of exploitation. Many master or doctorate research students could only renew their contracts after working in a hospital for some time. However, the hospitals’ desire for skilled personnel was incomparable to any other profession. Skilled doctors were welcome anytime in any hospital. They could bring fame to the hospital; they could bring a great volume of surgeries and money to their department; they could share their colleagues’ burdens; and they could provide much more treatment options for the patients. To be impressed by skilled doctors was a tradition that was etched deep into the bones of hospitals… and Director Lei was no different. Before Ling Ran came to the hospital, he did his homework. He knew that the internship rotation was rumored to be dependent on luck. As an intern who wished to be a surgeon, going into the Department of Internal Medicine to learn some of the basics before being assigned to a surgical department would be his best option. From thence, once his foundation was built, it would then be perfect for him to start learning some surgical techniques, which would take at least four to five months. After half a year, it should grant him a better chance to be at the operating table. As the saying went: The early bird catches the worm. If the intern who first provided assistance at the operating table made fewer mistakes, then he would become the third or second assistant earlier than his peers, and he would stand at the top of the other interns… even become the first assistant, qualified to operate surgical tools. Even if such an intern could not remain in Yun Hua Hospital and had to seek employment elsewhere, he would still be in a more advantageous position. Ling Ran’s mind turned fast, thinking about what kind of decision he should make. At that moment, a line of words went across his eyes. [Newbie Mission: Treat patients] [Mission Details: Suture the wounds of ten patients] [Reward: Interrupted Vertical Mattress Suturing Technique (Specialist Level)] [Time Limit: 10 days] ‘A mission?’ There was a sudden shift in Ling Ran’s train of thought. ‘First of all, I have no mental illness, so this mission must be real, it’s not just my hallucination. Secondly, I need to complete this mission in 10 days! The interrupted vertical mattress suturing technique is a type of tension suture. It’s a common and useful technique.’ Ling Ran knew that to finish this mission, he needed to choose a department that would allow him the opportunity to carry out his mission. ‘I shouldn’t think that just because there are many patients in Yun Hua Hospital, the chances would be high for me to operate. In truth, there won’t be a chance for most interns to even touch the patients most of the time.’ Even those from the Hand Surgery Department would not recklessly send Ling Ran to the operating table just because his suturing technique was good. The operating theater was a closed and independent space, anything could happen in there. Even a very lenient department head would still observe him for a few months before he would give Ling Ran a chance to perform a single stitch. Ling Ran was also not the only person who wanted to operate. The young doctors who came a few years ago were most probably eyeing for a chance to perform surgery. ‘So, the only place for me to suture wounds would be…’ “Can I go to the Emergency Department?” Ling Ran gave a shocking answer. Lei Beisha frowned, saying, “Ling Ran, you just started your internship, you should still consider familiarizing yourself with the environment. The Emergency Department is very busy, and the doctors may not have time to teach you…” However, compared to learning from the doctors, Ling Ran was currently more willing to prioritize the completion of his mission. “I can observe the doctors first.” Ling Ran stopped briefly, then said, “I wish to go to the Emergency Department first, then be transferred to other departments.” Director Lei could not go back on his word in front of so many people, this was the first reward he promised. If he retracted his words just because the other party’s wish did not meet his, where would his dignity as the Director of the Medical Education Department be? Furthermore, he still needed to arrange for students to go to the Emergency Department. If he talked about all the bad things in the Emergency Department right then, how was he supposed to allocate students to that department later? Thus, Director Lei could only shake his head at Ling Ran’s persistence and say, “If you want to go to the Emergency Department, so be it. Well then, let’s divide ourselves into groups.” After that, Director Lei ordered his subordinates to start calling out names and give out the cards. There were hundreds of students from different schools, and they were to be assigned into the dozens of departments in the hospital. They would then be trained in various departments through a rotation process. The schedule itself already showed that there was quite a lot of work to be done for the interns. Everyone obtained a number plate and a username with a password, which could be used for checking into the official website for their internship arrangements. Ling Ran got his number card last. Clearly, his schedule had been rearranged. Kang Jiuliang left early. Lei Beisha said a few more words before he, too, left the simulation training space, leaving the students to draw lots in a rowdy manner. All of them wanted to try their luck with entering the small operating theater. As his roommate, Chen Wanhao felt sorry for Ling Ran, saying, “You should’ve at least chosen the Hand Surgery Department. I can tell that you made a good impression on Dr. Kang. I think you would’ve probably learned some real stuff from him.” “I highly doubt your judgement because of that big red stethoscope you bought.” Wang Zhuangyong showed his skepticism. Ling Ran did not even bother explaining his actions. Instead, he asked, “Where are you two going?” “I’m going to the Thoracic Department. It’s a little too early for me though,” Chen Wanhao said with a heart full of regret. Wang Zhuangyong answered nonchalantly, “I’m going to the Medical Laboratory Department. Oh well, I’ll have to go there sooner or later anyway.” They were living in a dorm which was not fully occupied. There were only a total of three members in it, but fate had it so that they were sent to three different departments. Wang Zhuangyong sighed involuntarily. His voice was filled with a melancholy as he spoke. “It looks like today we’ll be starting our journey on three different paths—” Without hesitation, Chen Wanhao interrupted his very good friend Wang Zhuangyong in his brief sentimental moment, “We’re going to perform surgery while you’re going to play with poo, of course it’ll be different.” TBC... Chapter 5: Skill Passed Down Through Generations in the Family Translator: EndlessFantasy Translation Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation If you any error ( broken links,etc….). Please keep reading on our extranovel.com Thank you readers! When a surgeon got to work on the table with undeniably legitimate skill, one could no longer stand in a corner and call him a quack. Anyone related to the field—in any capacity whatsoever—would be able to gauge the proficiency of any surgeon after sitting through one surgery with said person. Anastomosis may be the twig at the end of the branch when it came to the surgery tree, but it was where all the foundations lay when it came to hand surgery. The most commonly performed surgeries in the field of hand surgery would be the reattachment of amputated fingers, hand laceration suturing, and many more. Once the surface work was done, the real work started in the pursuit of full circulatory anastomosis. Kang Jiuliang had performed over hundreds of surgeries in Yun Hua Hospital, and had seen no fewer than a hundred surgeries. But never had he witnessed a surgeon who sutured so efficiently while maintaining a perfect, uniform rhythm, taking everything into consideration despite the beeping of the medical apparatus. Ling Ran was one such individual, living and breathing right before him as his hands worked with mechanical precision. Kang Jiuliang found himself staring at Ling Ran in astonishment for a long time. “There’s a saying about certain individuals born with God-given elegance and poise. Ah, judging by his face, he has to be a fresh grad from medical school.” Kang Jiuliang could not come up with any other plausible explanation for Ling Ran’s skill. There was no simplicity in the single-minded pursuit of perfection in the simplest actions like suturing. It was true that achieving circulatory anastomosis was not much of a feat. It only required the very basic of all suturing skills: simple interrupted sutures. Even just by the sound of the technique, a layman could tell that it did not require much. As long as one listened carefully in class and practiced it, they would be able to use this skill. Taking it a step up with a microscope only took a brief period of adjustment. The skill itself remained the same. Then again, how difficult would mastering this skill become? Kang Jiuliang had practiced tying so many knots that he could practically make a curtain from it. Imagine this: How much time and energy would be needed to knit a sweater with nylon? And how long would it take to make a sweater that resembled a curtain? Mastering the art of suturing and then subsequently tying knots would take an even longer time than simply tying knots. That being said, Kang Jiuliang did not become the chief surgeon in the Hand Surgery Department overnight. Hundreds of successful hand surgeries had driven him to such standards. With that said, the feat of procuring amputated hands every single day to perform surgery so that he could practice his skills was not an easy thing in itself. Throughout the entire country, hospitals that had the resources to form their own Hand Surgery Departments were only found in large-scale industrial cities. Industrial machines were the largest culprits when it came to the unintentional amputation of human hands. While those machines continuously generated economic value, privately-owned factories in Yun Hua City generated their share of industrial accidents. The workers who got their fingers or even hands amputated by the ruthless machines would be taken to the nearest major hospitals at the fastest speed their coworkers could muster. Yun Hua Hospital had not intended to establish a Hand Surgery Department at the beginning, but as the industrial sector continued to expand and the number of industrial incidents grew in kind, Yun Hua Hospital was forced to build their Hand Surgery Department, regardless of what the Board thought. The 35-year-old Kang Jiuliang was a hand surgeon born out of necessity by the development of Yun Hua’s private sector. Many of his patients had successfully returned to working at full capacity with the industrial machines to date. This was in no small part due to his expertise. With skill and seniority came self-confidence. He was all too aware that his talent may have played a role in his accomplishments, but talent was nothing without hard work. He also had some great tutors, sufficient practice, and an ample number of surgeries. The medical student Ling Ran right in front of him might have the first two qualities, but Kang Jiuliang was still unable to find the final jigsaw puzzle piece. How did this fresh graduate actually reach this level with sheer practice and no actual experience? “Doctor Kang, it’s done.” Ling Ran put down the surgical tools and moved his wrist around for a bit, seemingly unaccustomed to the amount of work he had to do. The Master Level Appositional Suturing Technique in the Newbie Gift Package had far exceeded his expectations. As he worked on the bananas to hone his skills, he had only felt that the system-assisted suturing technique was pretty good, but had no idea that it was this good. The test he did a moment ago on the tail gave Ling Ran a more accurate evaluation of his newfound abilities. Judging by his knowledge about sutures which he had acquired from the system, the Master Level Appositional Suturing Technique was clearly greater than Kang Jiuliang’s suturing skills. Kang Jiuliang was most definitely a first-class surgeon in the Hand Surgery Department, and the Hand Surgery Department in Yun Hua Hospital was the leading department for suturing—which was their specialty—in Yun Hua Hospital itself. By the looks of it, the Master Level Appositional Suturing Technique truly lived up to its name as the skill of a master. “You stitch very well.” Kang Jiuliang’s voice interrupted the thoughts in Ling Ran’s mind. “Thank you.” Ling Ran smiled calmly. He did perform admirably. “In which hospitals have you done your internship?” Kang Jiuliang was well-aware that over a hundred students outside could hear the conversation between the two of them, but he could no longer hold his silence. It was the only possible explanation. Many medical students were willing to intern in other hospitals during their semester breaks. Even though most of the work they did was merely procedural tasks such as writing down a few medical reports or running some errands, they would still be able to pick up something. If one was talented, diligent and hardworking, able to capture the big picture, be amazingly efficient, and perform dozens or even hundreds of surgeries, it was possible for one to become this good prior to one’s debut. Even so, Ling Ran only shook his head slightly and said, “I just help around in my family’s clinic from time to time.” Once he said that, Kang Jiuliang developed profound respect for Ling Ran’s small clinic and asked, “What is the name of your family’s clinic?” A long list of names of famous private hospitals and high-end private clinics were already running through Kang Jiuliang’s mind: Chang Gung Hospital, Hua Bo Private Clinic, Beautiful Life— Ling Ran said, “Lower Groove Clinic.” Kang Jiuliang looked down at his own hands. He was suddenly filled with self-doubt; all the things he had come to know, accumulated over years of hard work, might have been for naught. |
Chapter 28: Who Said That Mo Jingshen Was the Only One Who Could Tease Her Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations Ji Mengran looked at the scene before her, keeping quiet. She slowly ate her food, her gaze occasionally landing on Ji Nuan. It seemed like from now on she had to change her tactics. Brainwashing Ji Nuan for her to stay away from Mo Jingshen and working on plans to help them divorce, would most likely not work anymore. “Dad, drink more soup. It’s good for the body.” Ji Nuan personally served some soup for Ji Hongwen, placing it in front of him. Ji Hongwen saw that Ji Nuan had really changed a lot and felt very comforted. This child was mature right now, could it be that with regards to Han Tianyuan’s two companies, she really did have some proper plans? During this meal, everyone was preoccupied with their own thoughts. After eating, Ji Nuan originally wanted to make a call to the Yu Garden but was immediately called to the study by Ji Hongwen. “Speak, what are your plans with those two companies? You are my, Ji Hongwen’s daughter. If you become a joke because of this matter, you would be embarrassing me!” In the noon, before arriving home, Ji Nuan had specially printed two sets of documents. She removed them from her purse, placing them on the table. “Dad, you cannot predict the development of the property market or technology within the country for the next ten years. Simply focusing on the property market alone, the prices of houses and land have been slowly but steadily increasing over the past three years, and this increment will not simply stop here.” “Right now, several property prices are dropping rapidly, aren’t they? Many experts have predicted that jobs in the property market will soon disappear! The more you invest, the more you will lose!” “Don’t believe in those so-called experts. Look at the evidence I’ve found for you first. It’s not too late to make a judgment after reading it.” Ji Hongwen glanced at the stack of documents and then eyed her. “You’ve really done quite some preparation.” “This is the first time your daughter is entering the business world. Of course, full preparation and planning have to be done. I have to do it, and I will do it. I promise I definitely won’t embarrass you!” Ji Hongwen looked through it for a while before saying happily, “All right, you have the boldness that your father had back when I just started. However, how can you be sure that the direction of the economy in the next ten years would go as you predicted? What if you planned wrongly? Have you thought of the consequences…” Ji Nuan lowered her eyes and smiled. The changes that the world would experience in the next ten years, including in the business world, were all in her mind. Since her finances and various relationships were stable at the moment, the first thing she had to do was, of course, to take advantage of the stable and profitable property business to come. Originally, she could not find much opportunity to do it. That day when she saw Han Tianyuan, she suddenly remembered that two of his companies were about to be sold. She could make him eat a loss and at the same time push for the gain she wanted. It could be considered killing two birds with one stone. Given that she dared to stand here right now, she naturally had the ability to convince her father. —- After two hours. Walking out of the study, Ji Nuan glanced at the time, “Dad, it’s not early anymore. I’ll return home now.” Ji Hongwen had already seen through her documents and heard an overview of her plans. After that, he did not state his thoughts, but he no longer disapproved of her plans. It could be seen that his heart had already wavered. “Don’t leave now, just sleep here tonight,” Ji Hongwen spoke from inside the study. “You’ve just recovered from a cold. At night, the temperature is colder, and the wind is also strong. I’ll have Jing Shen come pick you up tomorrow.” After speaking, he immediately gave Mo Jingshen a call. Ji Nuan was about to speak up but had to swallow down her words. Since her father said so, if she did not let Mo Jingshen come pick her up, he would most likely overthink and suspect that she was lying when she said that she planned to live happily with him. After a few minutes, Ji Hongwen walked out of the room. “I’ve already spoken to Jing Shen. You will stay at the Ji home tonight. He will pick you up tomorrow morning.” “He’ll come in the morning?” “Don’t think that I don’t know what you’re thinking about, you’re worried about delaying his work, aren’t you? You brat, your feelings for him have just improved, and your loyalty has already shifted out of the house!” Ji Nuan pouted, was her current thoughts so obvious? “Have you been living your days in a blur? It’s the weekend tomorrow! I think your heart has long flown back to the Yu Garden. What on earth did Mo Jingshen do to grab hold of your heart so well all of a sudden?” Ji Nuan face burned slightly. “Dad…” Seeing her face turn red, the big worry in Ji Hongwen’s heart could finally be placed down. She was truly sincere this time. Right now, his heart could be considered to be filled with comfort. If she were to stir up so much fuss that the son-in-law that he favored the most was lost and they really got a divorce, they would really be tossing their luck away to some other family’s lady. Just thinking about it caused his heart to hurt. “The issue about Han Tianyuan’s two companies, I can give you an opportunity to test the water, but I have a condition.” “What condition?” “If within half a year you are unable to earn the very amount that was invested into the company, then you have to go back to studying finance management obediently!” The meaning of his words was that if Ji Nuan could not rely on her own abilities to earn the money back, she could only obediently stay within the family’s company. He would not give her an opportunity to start her own business. Ji Hongwen’s personality has always been stubborn. That he was willing to give in this time was already considered a rather big feat on her part. Ji Nuan was silent for a moment before nodding. “All right.” —— At night, Ji Nuan was in her room. She laid on the bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. Half a year, thirty-million yuan. To earn everything back was not as easy as it sounded. In her previous life, ten years ago, which was today, the local property market did have a period of stagnancy and even dropped for a moment, although not by a lot. It was in the next few years that it would rise rapidly. However, right now, she was stuck in the period where the business rates were still rather low. Considering that, the time limit of half a year was an extremely big test for her. She really could not sleep. Ji Nuan turned back to glance at the time. It was already past nine o’clock. Was Mo Jingshen at the Yu Garden or was he still at the company? After her rebirth, she had not separated from him for even a single night… Ji Nuan tossed and turned for a little while before leaning down in a kneeling position. She picked up her phone, intending to give him a call. However, her fingers paused for several seconds at the screen. The Mo Corporation had several partnerships overseas. At night, he would often have conference calls at this time with his international partners. If her call arrived while he was busy, would that be bad? After thinking for a while, Ji Nuan decided to send a message. After all, Mo Jingshen seemed to rarely check his messages. Whatever, who cared if he would read it or not. After all, she could not fall asleep. Sending a message would help her settle her thoughts. Her fingers poked at the screen for half a day: [My precious hubby, I miss you, I miss you, I miss you, I really, really, really miss you…] The words “precious hubby” was typed in after she thought for a long time. While typing it, she was smiling with a red face. After sending it, Ji Nuan could not control her joy. She turned to lay back on the bed, and then glanced at the message she had sent before bursting into giggles. Who said that Mo Jingshen was the only one who could tease her, she clearly could tease him too… After sending the message out for several minutes, Ji Nuan got up to shower. All of a sudden, the phone that was placed on the bed rang. She turned back, her heart in shock. Mo Jingshen had actually directly called her— TBC... Chapter 27: After Returning This Time, Nuan Nuan Has Really Changed Quite a Bit Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations Ji Nuan turned to glance at her, asking with a fake smile, “Auntie Shen, what’s wrong? You can’t even hold your chopsticks properly? Could it be that you ate too much of the medicine brought back from overseas?” “What are you saying, Nuan Nuan. My hands accidentally touched the hot bowl of soup and trembled for a moment, that’s all.” Shen Heru placed her chopsticks down, smiling at her calmly. “Nuan Nuan, in the past didn’t you always sit on this side? Auntie Shen especially sat here so that I could chat with you while we eat.” In her previous life, whenever she ate at the Ji home, she would always sit as far from Ji Hongwen as possible. She caused Ji Hongwen to be upset every time, and he would criticize her to no end at the table. Their father-daughter relationship kept worsening that way. “Sitting here is quite good, I can chat with my father.” Ji Nuan saw that the helper had brought the white wine Ji Hongwen often drank and immediately reached out to block the bottle. “Dad, when mom was alive, she often said that your stomach is not good. It’s fine if you have no choice but to drink some when you’re working, but you can’t keep drinking at home!” as Ji Nuan spoke, she turned to the person behind her, “Auntie Qin, bring this wine away. In the future, if my Dad wants to drink during meal time, repeat every line of the words that my mom said to him back then!” “All right, all right.” Auntie Qin rushed over to take the wine away. Ji Hongwen wanted to drink the wine, but Ji Nuan, that brat, has never cared so much about him. He clicked his tongue. “Drinking is my only hobby in my entire life. You are even interfering with this!” “Aren’t you clear about how your own health is like? With your body, you obviously can live to a hundred. For the sake of a few mouthfuls of wine, you want to reduce several tens of years from your lifetime, would that make you feel good?” Ji Nuan furrowed her brows as she said, “What’s the point of eating body supplements. I think if you don’t drink so much alcohol, everything will be fine!” “Fine, fine, fine, you child. Either you act completely immature, or the moment you become mature, you can’t stop nagging.” Ji Hongwen helplessly waved his hand, signaling for Auntie Qin who was at the side to bring the wine away. Shen Heru, who could not get a word in for half a day, suddenly smiled and said, “After returning this time… Nuan Nuan has really changed quite a bit…” Ji Nuan coolly glanced at her. “Auntie Shen, you’ve already been married to my father for so many years. Not only do you not care about his bad habit of drinking, but the relatives from your Shen family are also always sending wine here. Are you planning not to let go of my father’s stomach?” “Nuan Nuan, you’ve misunderstood. You should also understand how stubborn your father is. How could I possibly have persuaded him…” Shen Heru maintained her smile but felt a greater apprehension toward Ji Nuan. Earlier on, Ji Nuan even brought up her birth mother who had already passed away for so long. Although her words did not sound sharp, it was clearly meant to bring trouble for her! Ji Nuan curved her lips coldly. “Oh, you can’t persuade him to drink less, but you persuade him to take more medicine? I remember that your family is well-versed in medicine. You should know that taking too much medicine is bad for the body.” Shen Heru could not hold on well to her expression. This Ji Nuan was really strange! In the past, even if she did not like her as a stepmother, she never cared much about Ji Hongwen. When she was at home, she would always do her own thing and would never speak to her like this. “Eat, let’s all eat. Nuan Nuan, don’t start bickering with your Auntie Shen the moment you come back.” Ji Hongwen glanced at the table bereft of wine bottles and held in the thought to ask Auntie Qin to bring it back, quickly moving his chopsticks. Back when Ji Nuan stayed at the Ji home, whenever the fight began it was always between him and Ji Nuan. Normally, Ji Nuan did not even look at Shen Heru. Now that Ji Nuan was suddenly against Shen Heru, as the head of the family, Ji Hongwen really could not take the way these women argued with hidden words. Shen Heru smiled. “That’s right, Nuan Nuan, your words are full of attacks. I find it hard to adjust all of a sudden. Your words are usually straightforward and sudden. I guess I’m used to that.” “Dad, I’m just nagging for Auntie Shen to care more about your health, how is this bickering? Isn’t it all for your own good?” Ji Nuan glanced at him with a face full of sincerity. “Are you unhappy that I’m worried for you?” Ji Hongwen’s lips trembled. “All right, the problem is on me. I’ll drink less from now on.” Seeing that this family’s father and daughter were getting along so well, Shen Heru gripped her fists tightly under the table. Originally, she had thought to use the opportunity to let Ji Hongwen lecture Ji Nuan for a bit. However, this Ji Nuan was becoming harder to predict. Her words always skipped past the real issue and made Ji Hongwen who rarely put down his ego to become soft with his daughter. “Old Ji, Nuan Nuan words are right. You really should cherish your own body more. Things like alcohol, try to drink less when you can.” Shen Heru quickly changed her almost angry expression from earlier, suddenly smiling and speaking softly. Ji Nuan glanced at her without a hint of a smile. This Shen Heru was also someone who could tolerate. Tolerating for so many years in the Ji family, was it not all for the final goal of fitting all of the Ji family’s money into her own pocket? When she thought of the hatred in her father’s eyes during his last moments, Ji Nuan raised her foot under the table harshly kicking Shen Heru’s legs. Wanting to pretend that the issue about the medicine was over? As if she would let her stay so calm! “Ah!” Shen Heru was defenseless. Her calf bone was in a lot of pain, and she could not help but call out. “What’s wrong with you? Can’t you eat calmly? At this age, yelling and crying like a ghost at the dinner table!” Ji Hongwen’s expression was ugly as he scolded. Shen Heru never thought that Ji Nuan would do this to her. She felt wronged as she said, “Earlier on, I think Ji Nuan kicked me under the table. I’m not sure if it was on purpose. It’s because it hurt too much that I…” “When did I kick you?” Ji Nuan’s expression was innocent. She then looked at Ji Hongwen whose eyes held rage. “Dad, I didn’t.” “You clearly did! Already twenty-plus-years old and you did such a childish thing! Everyone is sitting here, how could I wrong you?” Regardless of how much Shen Heru could tolerate, her legs were hurting to the point where she couldn’t take it. Ji Nuan clearly did it on purpose, and the area she kicked was the most sensitive area at the calf. Ji Hongwen glanced down and saw that Ji Nuan’s legs were placed obediently by her chair. In addition, Ji Nuan was wearing a long skirt that covered her legs. The skirt was long, and there were no signs of wrinkles. The skirt made it such that it could not be seen if she was wearing heels, but it indeed seemed like she did not make any large movements. “All of you eat quietly. You are all grown adults, don’t act like children,” Ji Hongwen spoke impatiently, glancing unhappily at Shen Heru. Shen Heru was mad to the point where her face almost twisted. The calm expression that she maintained earlier was immediately used up. She harshly gripped her chopsticks tightly. Ji Nuan calmly drank the soup that Auntie Qin served her. Shen Heru, in the previous life you caused my father to die alone in the hospital bed. This debt between us, we will slowly repay it. |
Chapter 4: Why Are You So Shameless? 1 Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios Missy Su, who was rumored as a fool, reached the VIP room at the 25th level. Su Huiqing was sauntering to the room when she suddenly stopped her footsteps and narrowed her gaze at something. She placed her hands in her pockets and exuded an aura of dominance which made Yu Xiangyang, who had walked in front of her, feel that something was strange. He turned back and saw Su Huiqing standing still with a calm expression, yet her slightly curled up lips looked so evil. “You… What are you trying to do now?” Yu Xiangyang recalled her high damage ability earlier and could not help but touch his arm, which had a layer of goosebumps on it. Su Huiqing chewed on a piece of chewing gum and glanced at Yu Xiangyang. Seeing as how he had cowered under her gaze, she patted his shoulder and said, “Nothing is wrong. I just feel that someone is badmouthing me.” 4‘Badmouthing you? With your reputation, is there anybody in the whole of Green City who did not badmouth you!?’ 1Despite his thoughts, Yu Xiangyang’s legs went wobbly with just a simple pat on the shoulder. Hence, Yu Xiangyang told himself to be more courageous. She was just a renowned useless trash in Green City, so why should he fear her? However, despite his thoughts, his body responded honestly by cowering every time she patted him on the shoulder. 3When Zhang Mingxi fished out his phone, he saw how a girl had easily taunted Yu Xiangyang that he could not even stand straight. Yu Xiangyang was the most unruly grandson of the Yu Family, so it was a rare sight to see him in a restrained state. Hence, Zhang Mingxi curiously looked towards that girl. In Green City, only a few could subdue Yu Xiangyang into such a pliant state. The girl had straight, black hair, and her long bangs on both sides covered half of her face. He could only vaguely see her light-colored thin lips that somehow could induce one’s fancy thoughts. “Brother Mingxi.” Once Yu Xiangyang saw Zhang Mingxi, he morphed his facial expression into a serious one while his gaze moved towards Su Huiqing. He was aware of how much Su Huiqing liked Zhang Mingxi, thus he feared that Su Huiqing might lose control of herself with his presence. However, he did not expect Su Huiqing to just calmly chew on her chewing gum. She turned a blind eye towards Zhang Mingxi! On the other hand, Zhang Mingxi… did not seem to recognize Su Huiqing and then walked away to answer his call. In the hospital room. A girl sat on a chair beside the hospital bed. She was cutting an apple while gritting her teeth. “Who does she think she is? She can’t even compare to a finger of yours, yet she is the young miss of the Su Family?! Anan, how did Madam Su give birth to such a daughter? With that brain of hers, she could dream of replacing you! She may not even know what would lead to her demise!” ‘Bang!’ The room door was suddenly kicked open from outside. Su Huiqing took out a fresh piece of chewing gum from her pocket and placed it into her mouth. Her black eyes then stared at the girl who sat on the chair. She then suddenly smiled with a raised brow. “Student, do I owe you money?” 1She had lowered her voice by several octaves. And though her face looked like it was exquisitely carved out from a jade, it still gave one a feeling of flaunting and vibrancy. With just a glance, it made one unable to move their gaze away! ‘There was a person who was even prettier than Anan!’ That was the immediate reaction of the girl who sat on the chair. 2Shen Anan, who leaned on the hospital bed, did not have any reaction and merely stared at Su Huiqing in a daze. “Anan, don’t you recognize her? She is your elder sister, Su Huiqing.” In fear that these two people would anger Su Huiqing, Yu Xiangyang immediately reminded her. 3What was happening now?! It was fine if Yu Xiangyang did not explain, but once he did, Shen Anan and the other girl became completely stumped! ‘She’s Su Huiqing? How could that be!?’ Everyone knew that Su Huiqing was an ugly girl who did not inherit Madam Su’s beautiful looks at all! However, the girl in front of them was bright and beautiful. Even Shen Anan, who was dubbed as one of Green City’s most beautiful women, paled in comparison to her! How could she be Su Huiqing? Su Huiqing sauntered forward and stopped in front of the girl who sat on the chair. She lazily spat out, “Speak up.” Her tone did not allow one to interrupt her. The girl snapped back to her senses and with a pale face, she said in a quivering voice, “No… you don’t owe me money…” “Did I hit you then?” Su Huiqing pulled a chair over and slowly sat down. She placed one hand on the chair while the other supported her chin, and she then stared at the girl with a cold gaze. “No, you didn’t…” “Since that is the case…” Su Huiqing blew a bubble and popped it. She then flashed her a smirk. “Between you and me, who do you think will die first?” Su Huiqing had a domineering presence and the girl trembled in fear. She was so frightened that her face went as white as a sheet of paper! This person with such a strong presence was Su Huiqing?! “Big sister.” At that moment, Shen Anan finally came back to her senses and smiled. “Qianqian did not mean to offend you on purpose.” 1“Don’t let me hear those words again. If I hear it again, I might get bored and you may just end up in a sorry state one day. Do you understand?” Su Huiqing knocked on the chair and the ‘dong dong’ sounds reverberated in the room. The girl on the chair immediately nodded her head and Su Huiqing turned her attention towards Shen Anan—the girl who everyone claimed was more like Su Family’s missy. She looked a little pale as she leaned against the hospital bed. She had long hair that reached her waist, and she had raised her eyebrow and fury filled her eyes. Her arm had a white bandage around it and because of her injury, she carried a small sense of pitifulness. Su Huiqing turned her head towards her, and she slowly said, “My mum will come tomorrow morning. Don’t forget to tell her that you fell down the stairs by yourself.” “Su Huiqing!” She had not finished speaking yet when a furious voice rang from outside. The voice was so loud that Su Huiqing covered her ears. She had tilted her face down and her black eyes shot a cold and sharp glint. In the next moment, the harsh look she had on her face disappeared and was replaced with a lazy one. She then stood up and sauntered towards the entrance. Seeing that sight, Yu Xiangyang trembled in fear. Was Su Huiqing going to explode in madness again?! The whole room entered a state of silence and they looked at Su Huiqing as they withheld their breaths. Su Huiqing’s footsteps rang in the room and every step made Yu Xiangyang’s heart clench in fear. Su Huiqing pulled a gentle smile and spat out the tasteless chewing gum before taking out another piece to eat. By then she had lowered her eyes. No one could see the piercing cold gaze it had. Zhang Mingxi had overheard their conversation and knew that the person in front of him was Su Huiqing. Despite being mentally prepared, he still momentarily froze. Before, Su Huiqing was a useless trash, an abandoned child in his eyes. Looks, talent, intelligence, capability… she had none of them! 2But today, he suddenly thought that Su Huiqing was indeed useless. Her face was the only feature likable about her. It was a pity that her beauty was her only saving grace and none of her other aspects were worthy of merit! Zhang Mingxi’s gaze gradually turned icy-cold and filled with disgust. He then moved his gaze away. After confirming Shen Anan was fine, he looked at Su Huiqing again with a gaze filled with disdain and mockery. It was as though he was looking at a piece of trash. “Anan fell down the stairs by herself?! Su Huiqing, how could you be so shameless?” TBC... Chapter 4: Tail Replantation Translator: EndlessFantasy Translation Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation If you any error ( broken links,etc….). Please keep reading on our extranovel.com Thank you readers! Lei Beisha was executing the carrot and stick approach in the large room. Once he said those scathing words, he worked on comforting the interns. “In the beginning stage of your internship, all of you should mostly make observation as your priority and pay attention to the methods of learning. Study diligently and train hard. At the same time, you must strive to balance hard work and rest. “Today, the most important thing we will be doing today is to show all of you a demonstration. After this, you will have plenty of time to shut yourself in the simulation training space. By then, even if you don’t want to be here, you will still find yourselves in this place.” After seeing that Lei Beisha’s attitude had taken a turn for the better, Wang Zhuangyong quickly raised his white-gloved hand and asked, “Department Director Lei, how difficult is the tail replantation for a white rat and what is the hardest part of it?” “How difficult is it, you ask…? How do I put this into words…?” Lei Beisha pondered on that thought for a moment and said, “Let me describe it a little to you. Other than you students from the medical academy coming over to do your internships here in Yun Hua Hospital’s Hand Surgery Department, we also accept almost a hundred doctors from other hospitals within the province to come in and do practical learning with us every year. Even when these doctors arrive, the number of those who are capable of completing the tail replantation and meet the requirement of 95% blood flow rate will only be in the single-digits.” The students simultaneously gasped in shock. Even if the doctors who were able to come back to work in Yun Hua Hospital lacked skill, they would still be better than the medical students who had never been at the operating table. With this impression in them, the respect that students had in their hearts grew even more towards those who could perform tail replantation for white rats. A few minutes later, Kang Jiuliang and Ling Ran sat on two sides of the table respectively. The objective lens for both of their double binocular head compound microscope were aimed on the tail of the white rat. At the top side of the machine, Kang Jiuliang and Ling Ran were both provided with a pair of eyepiece lenses. “Normally, when we are training, we will cut the rat’s tail into approximately sixty to eighty segments. Today is a special case for us; we shall cut it into fewer segments.” At the same moment Kang Jiuliang switched on the microphone on one side of the table, he picked up a scalpel. “The white mouse is so cute, please don’t cut its tail.” A girl cried out while she hid among the crowd. Although he supposed that she was just pulling a joke, Kang Jiuliang remained serious as he explained, “Experimental animals are the unsung heroes of our hospitals. Everyone would use them for practice in order to improve their skills and further improve the welfare of humans. In the meantime, everyone should also try their best to utilize every chance for experimentation, but perform your experiments within the limits of your abilities. That way, you can try to minimize the suffering of the animals. So, when you’re practicing, you must remain serious… Student, what are you doing?” While Kang Jiuliang was talking, he saw that Ling Ran had already cut the tail of the anaesthetized white rat into tens of segments. “You said that we would cut fewer today, so I’ve cut it into 42 segments. Is that too few?” The scalpel that Ling Ran held in his hand glinted with a silver light across the blade. The students below watched with both eyes gleaming, that included the girl who just mentioned that the “white mouse is so cute”. She was also extremely excited, to the point that she wished she was the one holding the scalpel. “You have already made the cuts, leave it there. You must listen to direction after this.” Kang Jiuliang set his eyes on a pile of rat tail pieces. He could not possibly make Ling Ran put all those pieces back together… Well, that was not too accurate, since they were about to perform tail replantation right then. “I shall do the demonstration.” Kang Jiuliang held a pair of medical forceps with his left hand while he picked up a needle holder with his right hand and said, “What we are using here is called a medical microscope instrument . Many students have most likely never touched this before. Its main feature is that it is small. For instance, the thickness of the suture thread that we are using right now is only one-tenth of a strand of human hair… By the way, student, how should I address you?” “Ling Ran,” Ling Ran replied. “Not much of a talker, eh?” “Not much.” “You’ll love talking in the days to come. Surgeons are all chatterboxes when they perform surgeries.” During the surgery, Kang Jiuliang had obviously turned into a completely different person than he was before the surgery. Ling Ran responded with an “oh”. Kang Jiuliang could not hold it in anymore and said, “Don’t you feel curious about why?” “Because of boredom,” Ling Ran replied. The interns giggled. Kang Jiuliang was shocked for a moment. He asked, “Is the question I asked too boring?” “It’s while the surgeons are operating that it gets too boring.” “Indeed, performing a surgery takes a very long time. It’s true that it is quite boring. Normally, it would already be ten or twenty hours later when we finish a session for hand surgery. The others around you would probably want to talk even if you don’t feel like talking.” Kang Jiuliang no longer bothered himself with the underlying meaning in Ling Ran’s words. While he spoke, he started working with his hands, as if both actions would not affect the other and interfere with each other. In the eyes of the interns, the rhythm of Kang Jiuliang’s hands as he worked and the speed he used while he spoke was completely different. As the saying went: practice makes perfect. Kang Jiuliang’s exceptional performance even while he spoke was probably what that idiom meant, because he could only do this after a lot of practice. In the meantime, Ling Ran was also familiarizing himself with the details in Kang Jiuliang’s actions as he operated on the tail. After all, in the end, tail replantation for white rats was just a circulatory anastomosis. It would require six to eight stitches on the small vascular section in order to stitch each of the severed blood vessels back together, thereby ensuring that blood would circulate smoothly, unobstructed, and without any leakages. During the suturing process, the doctors should also be careful of not letting body cavities[1] and dead spaces[2] appear. In all honesty, these specifics and small concerns would be the things that define the skills of a surgeon. For instance, a doctor of the Hand Surgery Department would require training for two to three years on tail replantation before he or she could reconnect the tail. But the condition of the white rat itself and the skills of the surgeon, which played an even more decisive factor, would determine whether the tail could function as normally as it had before, and whether there would be any pain or even complications after the surgery. In simpler words, suturing was not easy, and completing the stitch perfectly was even harder. Kang Jiuliang began to feel bored just talking by himself. He asked Ling Ran directly, “Do you recognize the suturing techniques I am using?” “It’s a simple interrupted stitch.” Ling Ran did not say much at all. “Are you familiar with it?” Kang Jiuliang asked another question, but he answered the question himself immediately afterwards. He said, “You should be familiar with it. This is the most common and also the simplest suturing technique. It is otherwise known as the suture and knot-tying technique, isn’t it? One knot right after one stitch. Back when I was training in my school, this is the skill that was practiced the most. How about you?” Ling Ran remained concise as he replied, “About the same.” He watched the operation performed by Kang Jiuliang. His mind was overflowing with information, he did not want to talk at all. “Alright, give it a try.” All of a sudden, Kang Jiuliang seemed a little sullen. ‘I’m a very busy person, why can’t you learn how to chat with me a little after I’ve gone through so much trouble to be here to give all of you a demonstration…?’ At first, he wanted to perform a few more anastomoses for a while to allow Ling Ran to familiarize himself with it. After completing just one circulatory anastomosis, he immediately decided to let Ling Ran take over. Ling Ran was stunned for a moment, but he did not give it much thought. He just said “alright” as he picked up the needle-holder. All the while, Kang Jiuliang did not move his eyes away from the eyepiece of the microscope. At that moment, he could not help but lift his head up and take a quick peek at Ling Ran. The saying went that an expert’s skills would be determined once he laid his hands on his craft, and the basic skill required for microsurgeries for experts was for their hands to not shake when they picked up the needle-holder. In order to put eight stitches on the artery with a mere 0.5 millimeters in diameter, the surgical suture that they were using at the moment was only one-fifth of a hair’s thickness. If an ordinary person picked up the needle-holder, the front tip of the needle would shake indefinitely. Under the microscope, the magnitude of the tremors would make it seem as if the needle was dancing around. In actuality, doctors who were never properly trained to perform microsurgery would shake so much that all onlookers would feel dizzy while they watched these doctors pick up the needle-holder under the microscope. These doctors would definitely need to practice holding the needle holder over a long period of time. Some doctors even held the needle holders in their hands until they became swollen just from practice. As for medical students… Kang Jiuliang could not help but ask, “Do you still practice microsurgery in Yun Hua Medical Institute?” “My family runs a small clinic,” Ling Ran said using the lie he made up. The tip of the needle under the microscope went straight for the small artery in the white rat’s tail. Kang Jiuliang quickly focused his attention, but he only saw that the artery of the white rat’s tail had not moved even by a tiny bit under the microscope. Kang Jiuliang could not help but to raise his eyebrows marginally. The arteries under the microscope did not tremble at all. That meant that none of them were pulled, not even by a little. This was not a basic requirement in microsurgery. This was, in fact, a very outstanding skill. In order to train this particular skill, some doctors would put bubbles in a basin of water and perform sutures and knot-tying on top of the bubbles. The goal was for the bubbles to not move even the slightest bit. It was similar to suturing a broken finger. If the process could be done with that sort of suturing standard, the sutured finger would have much stronger recovery abilities and even mobility in the future than it did in the past. During that moment of absent-mindedness, one stitch on the anastomosis had already been completed. Kang Jiuliang did not even notice the exact time, the only judgement he could make was that it was at least faster than his. After contemplating it, Kang Jiuliang quickly looked at the point of the anastomosis under the microscope. He could only see that the knots which were exposed on the outside were fairly consistent. It was pleasing to the eye by the looks of it, there was not even a single mistake like a granny knot[3]. This was practically a textbook example of a vascular suture and vascular knot-tying. There was no mistake at all to be picked out. ‘A small clinic?’ Kang Jiuliang lifted his head and glanced at Ling Ran. Afterwards, he thought to himself, ‘How many fingers had to be chopped off in order to nurture such a high standard of suturing?’ Translator’s Notes: [1] Body cavity: any fluid-filled space in a multicellular organism other than those of vessels (such as blood vessels and lymphatic vessels). In the outpatient facility downstairs with the exterior wall made entirely of glass, a group of interns were lined up with their heads up and looked straight ahead. Several instructors who wore white coats that were embroidered with either words saying Yun Hua University, Yun Hua Medical University, or Yun Hua College of Traditional Chinese Medicine were consulting the administration staff of the hospital in soft voices. For medical students, an internship was the mark signalling their beginning towards becoming a doctor. It held the kind of excitement where one would finally see the fruits of their many years of labor. “You don’t say… I’ve been here in Yun Hua Hospital before this. And yet, the feeling I have now is completely different from that of the past.” Wang Zhuangyong stroked his hair with his white gloves twice. He turned towards the logo of the hospital with the look of someone who looked forward to the future. “The last time you came here, you did so to undergo a circumcision. Of course the feeling is different.” Chen Wanhao wore a well-ironed white coat. There was a big red stethoscope hanging on his neck, two pens were pinned neatly right in front of his chest. He appeared to be roleplaying as a licensed doctor, his words were also sharp and straight to the point. Wang Zhuangyong had gotten used to getting rendered speechless. He did not feel annoyed and was calm as he said, “The big birds should work in a great hospital.” When he said these words, Wang Zhuangyong looked at Chen Wanhao askance, regarding him disgustedly. Chen Wanhao immediately had his feathers ruffled. Enraged, he exclaimed, “What the heck does THAT mean?!” “Old Chen, don’t work yourself up.” Beside him, his classmate persuaded him to calm down and said, “We’ve all been bathing together in the public bathroom all this while, who hasn’t seen whose d*ck, right?” Chen Wanhao could no longer suppress his anger. He then said, “Don’t try to hold me back…” “Silence, everyone!” The mentor who led the team held a megaphone as he said, “We will start with a small meeting first as a group and talk about certain matters that require attention during your internship. Then, we will take a tour around the hospital. We shall split into groups and visit the departments in rotation. Everyone, focus now. Every aspect of the following will affect your internship score.” A few of the classmates looked at Chen Wanhao in worry. Right before their eyes, that Chen Wanhao who flew into rage a moment ago had become like a quiet rabbit which had been sedated. When the routine speech and visit had come to an end, the interns were sent to the simulation training space—they went in a noisy fashion. By then, the instructors from every school had already returned to their homes. The person in charge had now been replaced by the Director of Medical Education, Lei Beisha. Lei Beisha had seen groups of interns come and go every year at the finest hospital in Yun Hua. When he saw the new faces which looked young and excited, Lei Beisha proceeded to put the youngsters in their place the moment he spoke. His voice was deep when he said, “Most of you would end up going to small hospitals in the days to come! You will idle away in the small hospitals, giving injections, prescribing medication, giving IV drips to people, performing appendectomies, and you will go through another year. “Are the tertiary grade A hospitals in our country short-handed? Of course they are. How about the top-class general hospitals in places like Yun Hua, then? We are in dire need of manpower! Even in our dreams, we want to recruit others, but…” Lei Beisha then raised his volume and continued to speak in a deafening voice, “We want proficient hands! We want mature doctors!” Lei Beisha went on with his words and said, “Of course, we will also train our own doctors. We have many famous doctors walking out from Yun Hua, yes. But! Only the gifted, the diligent, and the ones who have the attitude of a doctor are worthy of being trained by us. In truth, this isn’t something that only happens in Yun Hua, the local hospitals and the great hospitals that you all dream of going to do the same thing. “So, are you all the kind of doctors who have the gift, the diligence, and the attitude?” Lei Beisha stood on the podium in the simulation training space as he set his sights on all the people from higher ground. He then slowly said, “In the upcoming year, everything will depend on your performance.” The medical students who were pumped with enthusiasm at the beginning instantly became dejected. In all honesty, everyone knew about what the director just said, but when someone said it out loud in such a straightforward manner, the youngsters could not really handle it. Ling Ran stood firm though. His family ran a clinic. It was natural that he knew how small clinics and small hospitals worked. Regardless of whether it was general or private, the small clinics and hospitals in the country could only treat minor illnesses and relieve minor pain. The salary a doctor obtained there was actually sufficient to feed only one family. Still, it was inevitable for the doctor to feel as if he was wasting away. It would be especially so for the medical students who struggled hard in their studies throughout the years. They would be unwilling to become a doctor who only measured blood pressure and treated the common flu. Ling Ran was unwilling to be someone like that too, but he had never put his hopes on silly things like wishing for all his wishes to magically come true. “Our hospital does have an offer for housemanship as well.” Lei Beisha noticed that his words to intimidate had served their purpose effectively. A smile appeared on his face, slowly replacing the serious look as he spoke with a hint of pleasantness in his voice. “If the results of your internship are among the best, our Medical Education Department will prioritize recruiting you. When the other hospitals are recruiting resident doctors, they will definitely also look at the results of your internship.” Once he saw that the morale of the students had recovered well enough, Lei Beisha smiled again. Then, he said, “You have one entire year of internship at Yun Hua. We will observe and record your performances during that period. As for yourselves, you should all aim to improve your skills using places like this simulation training space where we are right now. Our hospital has spent millions to build this space for you to practice your skills.” Lei Beisha took a step back and introduced another young doctor who was right beside him. “This is Doctor Kang. He is our Yun Hua’s well-known chief surgeon. Next, let’s have him give us a brief lecture about suturing techniques.” Kang Jiuliang was currently 35 years old—the prime of his life. He was also deemed the most skilled young doctor among hand surgeons. Kang Jiuliang only treated the matter of being called to the podium by Lei Beisha like getting a period of rest. Even when Lei Beisha introduced him, he still spoke in a lackadaisical manner. “There are many techniques to master for a surgeon, suturing is merely the basic among the basics. You should have practiced that back in your school.” When Kang Jiuliang talked about this, he smiled a bit and said, “In the Hand Surgery Department, the fundamental requirement for new doctors to even be able to perform surgery would be to pass the test from the simulation training space.” Kang Jiuliang glanced at Lei Beisha as he continued to speak, “The standard to pass the test in the simulation training space is actually very simple in theory. You just have to anastomose the tails of ten white rats.” While he was giving his speech, Kang Jiuliang pulled away a curtain that was covering a wall beside the podium, revealing a large glass behind it and the small laboratory inside. The laboratory was more than a dozen square meters large. There was one white rat transfixed to the middle of the experiment table in the laboratory. Approximately twenty to thirty centimeters directly above it was a compound binocular microscope. The projection screen had also been lowered—with loud creaking sounds—behind the podium. When the projector was switched on, everyone could see the tail of the white rat. “Our interns and doctors of the Hand Surgery Department would come over to the simulation training space to practice whenever they are free. We express our gratitude for the sacrifice of the animals used for the experiments. Thanks to them, many of our patients were healed.” Kang Jiuliang continued to speak after that, “The diameter of the thin blood vessels in a human’s finger would be approximately 0.3 millimeters. The diameter of the blood vessels in the tail of a white rat should range around 0.5 millimeters. That should be almost the same thickness of the blood vessels in the middle finger of a normal human being. That being said, those who cannot pass the test in the simulation training space will not be capable of getting onto the surgical platform for hand surgeries. “Department Director Lei mentioned an offer for housemanship just now. You can obtain an offer for housemanship in our Hand Surgery Department by simply performing a successful tail reattachment surgery for a white rat. Whichever intern manages to pass this test within a year will be welcomed with open arms in the Hand Surgery Department.” After he had finished talking, Kang Jiuliang smiled in a barely noticeable manner and said, “I shall pick one student to perform the anastomosis with me. You can also try it out yourself later.” A group of medical students raised their hands. Their eyes gleamed brightly. They lacked knowledge in far too many things in regards to performing surgeries on people, but suturing techniques was what all medical students had learned and practiced during their time as students. This was evidenced by the good sales of the bananas and pomelos sold at the school gate [2]. Any person who would like to get into the medical field upon graduation would practice suturing whenever they were free. Many students had trained to the point where their confidence in this skill had been developed as well. “Put down your hands, you don’t have to raise your hands; this is not a school, after all.” Kang Jiuliang turned his head to the side as he looked at the students. Right at first glance, he saw Ling Ran, who was so handsome that he stood out among the others. Without a moment of doubt, he chose him and said, “Let’s pick this fellow student, then. You, sit across from me and watch while I do the first round. Then, you will do the other round.” After that, Kang Jiuliang pushed the small door beside him open. He then gestured for Ling Ran to change into surgical attire and to get ready for operation. Translator’s Note: [1] Housemanship: a two – year period after graduating from medical school during which newly qualified doctors practice under supervision in designated hospitals in the country. [2] Pomelo and banana: In this context, it means that the sales of pomelos and bananas were good because the students kept buying them to practice their suturing. |
Chapter 26: Father-Daughter Relationship Has Broken Ice Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations Auntie Qin and the Ji family helpers had already prepared dinner. When Ji Hongwen came downstairs, Shen Heru and Ji Mengran saw that he seemed cold and stern. His expression was dreadful. He did not even glance at Ji Nuan who was following behind him. Seeing this scene, Ji Mengran took the opportunity to speak up, “Father, don’t be mad at my sister anymore. She rarely returns home. It’s likely that she fought with Brother Jing Shen again. Why don’t we just let her stay here tonight instead of returning back to the Yu Garden? Anyway, even if she returns, Brother Jing Shen may not be there…” “What did you fight about again?” Ji Hongwen glared at Ji Nuan who was behind him. “It’s already been half a year, when will you stop your thoughts of wanting a divorce?” Ji Nuan eyed Ji Mengran. Very good, she had just shown up, and she was already attacked. Even though Ji Mengran had known that the issue about the divorce has always been the cause of all their fights, she still directly brought the topic up. Shen Heru stood by the table without speaking, but her eyes moved towards Ji Nuan. She knew that Ji Nuan would always make a big fuss about Mo Jingshen so she stayed silent, calmly waiting to watch the show. “Dad, I wanted to take the opportunity to apologize properly.” Ji Nuan reached out and wrapped her hand around Ji Hongwen’s elbow just as he was about to walk toward the dining table. “I was too stubborn in the past and didn’t realize that you had planned all of the best things for me. I kept bickering with you. I was wrong.” Ji Hongwen was surprised, immediately eyeing her in suspicion. She didn’t start a fight? Ji Nuan actually knew how to apologize? Ji Mengran and Shen Heru tried their best to cover up the shock in their eyes. How could this be? “In the past, I was too stubborn. After marrying Jing Shen, because my heart was dissatisfied, I kept making trouble. But in the end, the human heart is made of flesh. After spending a long time with someone, you can’t help but notice their goodness. Right now, I don’t wish for a divorce, and I’ve decided to live well with Jing Shen from now onward. I definitely won’t let you worry for me anymore.” As Ji Nuan spoke, she sat down with Ji Hongwen, at the same time turning to look at Ji Mengran. “Actually, I had already shared my thoughts with Meng Ran several days ago, isn’t that right, Meng Ran?” The focus suddenly turned toward her. Ji Mengran froze for a moment. Ji Nuan did say these words before… Ji Mengran had thought that she had only said those words about giving up the divorce because her brain was not working momentarily. She had never even thought of informing her father what had happened. Suddenly pushed into the spotlight by Ji Nuan, Ji Mengran could not lie even if she wanted to and could only smile. “That day I left in a rush and almost forgot about this. Big Sister did say that to me. She said that she has thought things through and no longer wishes for a divorce.” Ji Nuan smiled at her, making it seem like there was a deep sibling love between the two of them as they shared a smile of mutual understanding. However, this smile caused Ji Mengran to feel like her whole body was surrounded in cold water. “Dad, you should believe me now, right? I really want to be happy with Jing Shen.” Ji Nuan held onto Ji Hongwen’s elbow. Her voice was light and soft, sounding like a little girl whining for attention. Ever since she grew up, Ji Nuan has never acted this way with him. The soft part of Ji Hongwen’s heart was immediately touched and his anger reduced by a lot. “All right, it’s good that you know Jing Shen is good. After marriage, one needs time to be comfortable. Now that you’ve thought things through, it’s not too late. If the two of you have any conflicts, tell us. Don’t always act so temperamental, and don’t always be so immature, understood?” “I got it, Dad.” Ji Nuan leaned her head on his shoulder. “I apologize for all the bad things I previously said and did to you when I was being temperamental, so don’t be mad at me anymore, all right?” “Hmph, it’s no use even if you apologize now. I can let the rest go, but on the issue of the two companies, don’t think that I will let you off so easily.” “I will explain that to you later.” Ji Hongwen clearly still did not trust her much on this, waving his hand. “All right, let’s eat first. Ever since you got married, you’ve rarely been back. It’s good that you have finally been enlightened. Initially, I never placed any hopes on you coming back with Jing Shen. But since the two of you have grown close, bring him back with you the next time. Don’t always move about alone, or people will start to speak about your marriage again.” “That’s right. Nuan Nuan, since you’ve decided to live well with Jing Shen, why didn’t you come back together? Are you just making up words to please your father?” Ji Hongwen had just finished his words and Shen Heru immediately cut in. Her face was bright with a smile, but her eyes were cold. Ji Hongwen glared at Shen Heru. “None of your business! In the morning I was the one who called her to come back immediately. It was a sudden plan. Jing Shen isn’t an idle person who always has free time, how could he suddenly make time to come back.” “But I feel that Big Sister and Brother Jing Shen’s relationship cannot be so simple. A few days ago, they were still fighting so fiercely,” Ji Mengran quietly muttered. “Previously, they were clearly fighting to the point of no return. Yet, you are suddenly saying that you don’t want to divorce anymore. Big Sister, could it be that you have some other thoughts that you are purposely hiding from us?” Ji Mengran’s face was completely innocent as she spoke, seeming as though she was only asking curiously. Ji Nuan continued to hold onto Ji Hongwen’s elbow, coldly glancing at her. “What other thoughts could I have? I’ve already married Jing Shen for some time. After being together for a period, feelings have grown. We should just be together happily. Marriage is simple, how could there be any complicated thoughts? How could there be so many whys?” “These words are good. Simple is the best.” Ji Hongwen nodded his head. After Ji Nuan had acted spoiled in front of him for a while, his heart of a father was unused to it, but at the same time, he felt very comforted. In actuality, before returning, Ji Nuan had considered asking Mo Jingshen if he had time. However, after considering that her father had wanted to ask about Han Tianyuan’s companies, not to mention there were also Ji Mengran and Shen Heru at home, she felt that the return home would definitely cause chaos, and after consideration, she did not mention it to him. Besides, she did not want to see Ji Mengran interacting too much with Mo Jingshen. It would cause her to feel nauseous. Ji Mengran tolerated it and did not speak anymore, but quietly glanced at Shen Heru. If the relationship between Ji Nuan and her father worsened, the one to benefit would definitely be Shen Heru. Now that Ji Nuan was suddenly so obedient, seeing the ice break between the father and daughter, how could Shen Heru sit still and watch? “Auntie Shen, don’t you feel like my sister has changed too much?” Ji Mengran spoke carelessly. At this moment, Shen Heru was indeed suspicious. Why did Ji Nuan suddenly change? Becoming so obedient and mature? “Nuan Nuan ah, Auntie Shen hasn’t seen you for a while. Quickly come here and sit with me.” Shen Heru smiled as she pointed at the seat next to her, the one furthest from Ji Hongwen. Ji Nuan sat at the seat closest to Ji Hongwen without moving, acting as though she did not hear anything as she calmly spoke, “Dad, your health has barely any problems. Don’t eat too much medicine from here on. Those strange medicines sound like supplements but eating anything extra will affect your body’s immunity.” Hearing this, Ji Hongwen had yet to speak up, but Shen Heru’s hands which were about to pick up the chopsticks staggered. Chapter 25: There Must Be Something Wrong with This Medicine Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations “You brat, you’ve never focused on anything, and you’ve never been interested in the company. That’s fine, I didn’t force you. Ever since you’ve gotten married, you’ve been emotional all the time. I know that you don’t feel good inside, but you cannot mess around like this!” “Dad, please trust me. These two companies have a rather significant chance of bringing in profits within the next few years.” Ji Hongwen was just about to say more but paused in surprise. This daughter of his has always been extremely stubborn. Ever since her mother passed away and he remarried, she was even more impolite to him as a father. It was rare that they would not end up fighting each time he called. However, earlier she had said, “Dad, please trust me.” Such a sincere and polite attitude was very different from the way Ji Nuan would usually speak… Ji Hongwen was stunned for a moment, and his tone remained unkind. “Come back to the Ji home now and clear things up. I’ll send the chauffeur over to pick you up!” “There’s no need to pick me up. I’ll drive myself over.” Ji Nuan’s cold had already healed. Originally, she had planned to visit Xia Tian after getting changed. She slowly said, “Xia Tian was involved in a car accident a few weeks back. Her leg is fractured. I’ll drop by the hospital to visit her first.” “Fine. Watch out for your safety when driving and don’t be so absent minded.” Although Ji Hongwen’s tone sounded just as cold as before, it warmed up slightly. Ji Nuan smiled. “I’ll be back before six. Dad, don’t forget to have Auntie Qin save some food for me.” “…” Ji Hongwen was utterly unused to facing such a gentle daughter. After half a day, he still could not make any sound and directly hung up the phone. —— It was past six in the evening when Ji Nuan drove back to the Ji home. The car drove into the Ji family’s old residence’s front yard. Ji Mengran was on the balcony of the second floor playing with her phone. When she saw Ji Nuan, she immediately placed her phone down, glancing at her in surprise. “Big sister? Why are you back?” Ji Nuan seemed as though she did not notice her. After parking her car, she directly strolled in. Auntie Qin had already come out to welcome her. “Eldest Miss, you’re finally back. It’s been months since I last saw you!” “Auntie Qin, did you miss me?” Ji Nuan smiled as she reached out to hold Auntie Qin’s elbow. “Of course I missed you, how could I not have? Mr. Ji said that you would be coming back for dinner tonight, so I specially made your favorite braised ribs and steamed lotus root!” Auntie Qin happily patted her hand. “Since you’re back, do you want to stay at home for a few days?” Ji Nuan had yet to reply when she saw her stepmother, Shen Heru, approaching the moment she stepped through the door. Seeing that she had really returned home, Shen Heru appeared to smile bright as she squeezed in—pushing Auntie Qin to the side—and tugged Ji Nuan’s hands as she said, “Nuan Nuan, if you still did not come back, your father would have rushed to the Mo family demanding for you.” Ji Nuan glanced at her while coldly and calmly pulling her hand back. She turned back to ask Auntie Qin, who had been pushed to the side, “Where’s my father?” Auntie Qin rushed to reply, “Mr. Ji hasn’t been feeling too well in the past few days. Earlier he said that he would return to his room to have some medicine before coming down.” Medicine? Ji Nuan’s expression did not change, but she quickened her footsteps towards the staircase. “Ai, Nuan Nuan, don’t argue with your father the moment you are back. Ai, you child, why are you walking so quickly…” Shen Heru nagged from downstairs seeming very proper, all the while turning back to glare harshly at Auntie Qin. Auntie Qin retreated without saying anything more. Ji Nuan had quickly arrived outside Ji Hongwen’s room door. Just as she was about to knock, she heard the sound of a glass of water being placed on the table and pushed the door open with force. A loud “peng” came from the door— Ji Hongwen held onto two white pills as he turned to stare at Ji Nuan who had suddenly barged in. He immediately frowned unhappily. “How old are you? Do you know how to behave? Even when opening the door, you have to make so much noise!” “Dad!” Ji Nuan walked over, stopping him from placing the pills in his mouth. “What medicine is this?” Ji Nuan snatched away the pills in his hands and picked up the small medicine bottle on the table, scanning at it. All the words on it were in English. It mainly wrote that it contained supplements suitable for the middle-aged to strengthen their body. “This is the medicine that your Auntie Shen specially brought back from abroad when she went overseas a while ago. It’s a whole set of body supplements. There are pills and tablets,” Ji Hongwen simply replied, looking at her unhappily. “Didn’t you say you would be back before six? It’s almost 6.30p.m! Such a poor sense of time!” “It was the rush hour earlier; there was a traffic jam,” Ji Nuan explained while she continued holding the pill bottle tightly. In her previous life, she felt that her father had died very strangely. Back then, because she was on poor terms with her family, she could not remain by his side in his last moments. She had only managed to catch one last look at him before he had passed away at the hospital and did not even have the opportunity to understand the cause of his death from the doctor. However, on his death certificate, it was written that the cause of death was respiratory failure and a sudden heart attack. In her impression, her father’s health had always been excellent. He was only fifty years old when had he passed away. How could his health have worsened so dramatically in the span of a few years? Even if the Ji family had gone bankrupt, leading to a series of misfortunes, the stress should not have impacted him to the point where his heart had stopped within a night, causing his death. Back then, she was not at home and was therefore unclear of the situation. Earlier when she heard Auntie Qin said that he was taking his medicine in the room, Ji Nuan was suddenly reminded of this. Her father was not ill, why would he have to take medicine all of a sudden? Shen Heru had said that these were supplements, was it true? Ji Nuan did not forget that Shen Heru’s family had several members who studied medicine and learned to produce it. This was definitely not simple. “Why are you still holding onto my medicine? Quickly put it down!” Ji Hongwen stood up, scowling at Ji Nuan, “Also, the issue about those two companies, you better explain it well today!” Ji Nuan raised her eyes, changing the topic and speaking seriously, “Dad, can I have this medicine for a few days? I’ll let people from the state’s Food and Drug Administration check what’s inside.” Ji Hongwen frowned and angrily spat, “Nonsense! What are you checking for! I have already been married to your Auntie Shen for several tens of years. And you suspect even the medicine she buys? No wonder even though you both call her Auntie Shen, Meng Ran and she are like a pair of mother and daughter while you treat her like an enemy, never showing her a good side!” The room door was suddenly pushed open again. Ji Mengran gently opened the door, poking her head in and asking with an obedient looking face, “I just passed by and heard noises from the room. Dad, Big Sister, you just returned, and the two of you are fighting again?” “This doesn’t concern you, leave!” Ji Hongwen glared toward the door. Ji Mengran made an “Oh” sound and then gently closed the door again. Although she was yelled at by her father, Ji Mengran was not affected at all and was instead happy about the disaster as she left. Ji Nuan had only just returned for a while, and she had already argued with their Father. There would surely be a good show to watch tonight! |
