If the purpose of your trip is tourism, why not consider another Schengen country eg France? The only downside is you may need to first fly into France before visiting other Schengen countries.

Presently, Italy only has frequent flyer dates.

Please house. I am helping to apply for my brother who has been a frequent flyer to the UK.

He has never applied to schenghen before. The appointment in Lagos has reached middle of September but he has to be in Netherlands on the 5th September.

There are two option for tourist visa - 1. PRIMO (first time applicant to Schengen) and 2. Someone who has been issued either schenghen or UK, UK and Canada visa.

He is qualified for both 1 and 2. Which one should he select. We are hoping that choosing 2 might give him earlier appointments date.

There's a need for more context about the last refusal before one can offer specific recommendations e.g. what questions were you asked at your last interview and how did you respond?

One thing that concerns me is your home ties to Nigeria. Why are you coming back? What/who are you coming back to? You are traveling with your daughters but my question is- is there any key family member in Nigeria to return to when your visit is over? Additionally, if you are traveling October, are you pulling the kids out of school for the trip? If so, you definitely need to be able to explain this and the duration of your trip should be short e.g. if you claim a 3 week vacation while your kids are still in session, this may raise concerns.

That said, prepare for your interview. You want to come across as confident and yet not desperate. I recently shared some tips for another applicant. I will re-share below and hope you find them useful. Also, since you are traveling with the kids, be ready to answer questions about them and their present circumstances.

US Interview tips
1. Prepare for typical questions. I have shared a list of some below. You can Google for more. You don't want to sound robotic like you memorised all answers but you also don't want to be unprepared.
2. Closely tied to point 1, understand that the interview is the main thing. They are not likely to ask for documents so let your words communicate what you need to communicate. Don't think if they ask who you are visiting, your answer will be to present an invitation letter or if they ask about your job, you will present employment letter. Be ready to speak in the 3-5 minutes you have with them.
3. This one is very important. Ignore what is going on in other windows. As you wait your turn, you may witness several rejections, ignore them because everybody's case is different. You are there to receive your approval. Don't let the refusals you witness distract and destabilise you.
3. Get there early so you don't feel rushed.

Possible questions
1. What's the purpose of your visit?
2. How long do you plan to stay in the US?
3. Where in the US will you be visiting (be specific about the cities you will visit) and where will you stay(hotel, with family etc.)?
4. Who are you visiting (if applicable)?
5. What do you do for a living?
6. What's your travel history?
7. Do you have other family in your home country?

To add to this, if you decide on France, as at today, the next submission date for France first time applicants is sometime in September. Your decision might take about a month so you can still travel October or even do a Christmas trip.

Don't feel too disappointed, millions of people have experienced same. It doesn't define you in any way. Just encourage yourself and retool. Everyone that has gone through this path know visa denial can be extremely draining because of all the time, efforts, money and emotions invested in the endeavour.

Just work on your home ties, economic circumstance and international travel experience. These are the basic foundation for getting visas easily.

Please remove Dubai from that your list, those guys are just a waste of resources; instead, direct such reaources to other tourist-choice locations or European countries. They've even made it extremely difficult for Naija to visit their country.

If you have the financial capacity and a stable job with good pay, try and build your travel profile in this order:

Go to Schengen this year, UK next year, then try US again.

The funds you plan to use to travel to the US this year, deploy it to travel to another western country.

Previous travels are important in demonstrating you do not have immigration intent.

And it's always easier to get visas if your previous travels follow a pattern. For example, say 2021 holiday in Morocco, 2022 in Spain, 2023 in France, 2024 in UK, etc

With a good pay and stable job, you should be able to get a Schengen visa if packaged properly. Try France, they give the most visas. And they treat applications relatively faster.

If I understand you correctly, you are asking if you should print the appointment letter for your new appointment and the answer is definitely yes. When you still have ample time to print, there's no need taking the risk of having an appointment letter that says November when your new date is in October.

Your next step should be to find out if your AVITS profile has the option to reschedule appointment. You may need to wait 24-72hours to see if this is the case.

Additionally, except the DS 160 from March is up to date, you should proceed to fill another DS 160.

Once you are able to reschedule your appointment, create a support ticket for them to update your profile with your preferred DS 160. Give them 72 hours then check to confirm if your new appointment carries the correct DS 160 number.

If you are unable to reschedule your appointment, you may need to pay another visa fee.

You can definitely apply for France. There are applicants who even reapply immediately to the same Schengen country, correct whatever was missing from past applications and they are issued visas.

If you check page 462 of this thread you will see a detailed post I made to explain the application process. The only difference is that instead of employment letter/leave etc, as a business owner, your documents to show income and meaningful work will be different.

Given the series of refusals you have gotten, I suggest you settle down to review carefully each application to see what may have been wrongly done.

Check these areas:
1. Home ties- what is making you come back to Nigeria?
2. Finances- this is just not about having a big amount in your bank account but an explanation as to the source of funds and how it has built up over time
3. Do you have travel history to other countries? This will show a pattern of visiting and returning to Nigeria.

It would be worth reviewing the major things such as:
1. Home times- family, employment, investments/property,
2. Finances
3. did you have a detailed cover letter with your itinerary and other key information?

Coincidentally, in Nigeria, for visa applications, France makes decisions on behalf of the Netherlands. What this means is that if you want to apply to the Netherlands, you will start by filling the France Visas form and indicating that your primary destination is Netherlands. You will also submit at TLS just like a France application. With this in mind, you can make the Netherlands your primary destination then Germany and Sweden the 2 secondary destinations.

Alternatively, you can apply to visit France, make a quick stop of 2 nights in Paris then move on your next country from there. This way, you have a reason to apply to France directly.

To reflect the countries you are visiting, you can:
1. book a multi city flight eg arrives in Amsterdam and departs to Nigeria from Stockholm. Then move around the Schengen area by bus, train or flights as you intend and leave from Stockholm to Nigeria
2. alternatively, you can book arrival and return to one city, move around then return to original city for departure to Nigeria
3. the itinerary you submit should show the cities you are visiting and should have detailed activities
4. for accommodation, you can request invitation letters from your friends or simply book hotels for all cities. Hotel is more straightforward but make sure you have corresponding funds to cover the number of nights you book

By the way, except you have checked in bags, in some cases, flights may be faster/cheaper than trains. You can download Omio app to see how best to move around from city to city.

You should not be worried. It is usual for a flight booking to expire while the application is at the Consulate.

If you are yet to submit your application, you can choose to pay for a dummy flight ticket. This will give you a ticket that remains valid while your application is under consideration. It usually costs 5-15 USD

Hi,

About combining countries, you can download an app like Omio to see travel options for traveling from one city/country to another. The app shows you both the cost and time for train, bus and flight options so you can decide which best suits your needs.

Personally, I would recommend you consider this combo: Paris (France)-Brussels (Belgium)-Netherlands (Amsterdam).
Brussels is approximately 1 hour,30 minutes from Paris by train and about 4 hours by bus. Amsterdam is 3 hours away from Brussels by bus.

Finally, from Nigeria, when booking your flights, you can book a multicity flight i.e. if you arrive in Paris, you can return to Nigeria from Amsterdam rather than having to travel back to Paris.

This is a loaded question but let me attempt to respond.

DIY GUIDE FOR FRANCE SCHENGEN VISA
The way to apply for a French visa is to follow these 3 steps:
1. Fill the France visas form https://france-visas.gouv.fr/en/web/france-visas/online-application
2. Book and pay for appointment on TLS website https://visas-fr.tlscontact.com/country/ng/vac/ngLGV2fr/
3. Submit documents and do biometrics on appointment day

Of course, after submission comes the wait and you will be notified by TLS when your passport is ready for collection.

Documents to support your application:
- Flight booking
- Accommodation booking (e.g. booking.com, agoda etc.)
- International passport with validity of at least 3 months after the date which you intend to leave the Schengen Area
- Passport photograph
- Photocopies of past visas/entry and exit stamps
- Cover letter
- Detailed itinerary
- Insurance policy covering the entire duration of stay with minimum coverage of EUR 30,000 (e.g. AXA Mansard, Allianz etc.)
- Letter of introduction from employer
- Proof of employment (Letter of appointment and leave approval)
- Proof of income (3 months pay slips and 3 months bank statement)
- Bank reference letter
- Tours (optional but you can include paid tours which permit cancellation)

Notes
- for flights, you don't have to pay for a flight until your visa is issued. Some airlines offer to hold a flight for 24hours before cancelling the ticket, you can use this option. It does not matter if the ticket is cancelled while your application is at the Embassy. You can also use paid sites that offer ticket bookings e.g. you pay 5 to 15 USD to get a ticket to use for your application and such a ticket will be valid for the entire period your application is under review.
- for accommodation, choose hotels that offer free cancellation. Aim for a date close to your arrival date e.g. if traveling December 10, choose an accommodation that allows free cancellation up to like December 7. This gives enough time for the Embassy to make a decision on your application and ensures your accommodation can be cancelled if you choose to stay somewhere else.
- use the cover letter to properly introduce yourself, the role you play at your job and explain why you want to travel and most importantly that you will come back to Nigeria.
- in your cover letter, be sure to highlight home ties in the form of family in Nigeria, a well-paying job, properties you own, travel history, etc. Google for cover letter templates but this is a very important part of your application that can convince the person assessing your application to issue your visa.
- include any documents that support the point above e.g. marriage certificate, property documents etc.
- your itinerary should be detailed i.e. list each day and what you intend to do on each day
- TLS itself offers photography services. I find that it can be best to just take your photo with them to avoid them rejecting your passport photograph
- You will pay online for TLS appointment (currently N50300) and France visa fees 90 Euros (naira equivalent to be paid by card at TLS office)
- TLS offices are in both Lagos and Abuja
- it's good your travel date is far into the future but start the process ASAP because appointment dates for first timers are about 2-3 months away. Bear in mind you can apply 6 months ahead of your trip

You can successfully DIY. Insurance is expected to cover the time you are in the Schengen area. eg if you are set to arrive Schengen area September 4, then your insurance is expected to start from September 4 even if you leave Nigeria August 29 and stopover in Doha.

As for whether you can still travel in September, that's dependent on the appointment date you can get.

I think 7 days is ideal but that depends on your travel pattern i.e. if your travel history shows you typically spend 15 days abroad, then your choice of 16 days is good and you can reference this in your cover letter. Your budget and evidence of funds must also be able to support you for the number of days you state.

As for your last comment about travel history to other countries, it appears TLS has recently changed the option that used to apply to frequent travelers to other countries. I find this interesting because I paid for an appointment yesterday (though I had submitted some days ago) and in my email, under application type, it reads "Tourism / Private visit (Frequent traveler)".

The present options on TLS for short stay are either 1.) first-time applicant for a Schengen visa and 2.) someone who has a Schengen visa valid for up to 6 months. I will interpret this as they may be changing what they are looking out for i.e. you either have Schengen experience or you don't. We will see how this unfolds.

You will fill the TLS form and submit before you can see the appointment page. Note that if you've been to other countries eg US, UK, Canada, you are considered a frequent traveller even if it is your first Schengen.

Check page 316 of this thread to see some information on the appeal process. You need to move fast though because you have a short time window to appeal.

Also, does your letter state grounds of appeal? That could give you some insights on next steps.

If I may weigh in on the conversation, my biggest concerns would be about your socio-professional situation a.k.a home ties.

In your cover letter, did you elaborate on what will bring you back to Nigeria? eg did you explicitly state the business you do and how important your physical presence is, did you mention your family in Nigeria and any other relevant commitments to bring you home?

Also, it might be a good idea to include your business bank statements and tax receipts (if available) to show the business is functional. If you decide to appeal, this is an area to seriously highlight because it tells them you have something to come back to Nigeria to do.

In my opinion, 4000 euros over 5 days is a lot especially because it will empty one of your personal accounts (you mentioned the 4k USD account). Maybe a more conservative estimate if you decide to re-apply.

Finally, your travel history and how long do you typically spend in other countries can also be a factor to point out to them if appealing eg "from my travel history, you will notice I don't spend more than 10 days at a time outside Nigeria, this is because I have so so so and so commitments to get back to."

I forgot to mention that I got the insurance.

As for the funds in the account. They were not in. Round figure I just rounded the figure.

Secondly there are activities in the account to show the build up of the funds.

In my cover letter is broke down how much the trip would cost me, about 4000 euro for 5 days.

If the funding was suspicious or a problem, I think they would have given it as a reason.

The reason given was the reliability of the justification of purpose documents provided

And reason to believe I would not leave if the visa expires. Which I believe was a result of the justification of purpose.

I don't know if I should appeal the decision or if there is a way to get details of the specific reason for refusal.

You sound pretty excited about your trip and that's amazing!

1. To secure a date, create a draft form on the France Visas site then use the form number to book your appointment on TLS. Be sure to complete your form after booking your TLS appointment.
2. For what to do, I highly recommend a walking tour- it gives you a great overview of the city. You can also google fun activities in the city you want to visit. Platforms like tripadvisor, getyourguide typically have suggestions, activity costs and reviews
3. For moving around, get the transport app for each country (eg Bonjour RATP app for Paris) and use the metro/bus/tram for commute. It's convenient and cheaper. The apps also shows you the cost and various options on how to get from point A to B (sometimes, it is a combo of train and bus). You also get to see the departure times for the trains, buses etc. so you can plan accordingly. Citymapper app is another gem you can use for commute. For language barrier, target activities eg tours done in English but also be ready to interact with those who don't speak English.
4. I don't know a lot about the Eiffel tower area but hotels can be safer. Hostels are also another option.

You need to create groups on both the France Visas site and TLS but you have to fill a form for each applicant. For France Visas site, start by filling a form for the first applicant but don't submit. Click on the copy icon (farthest to your right) and choose what info you want to duplicate for the next group member. Copy again until you have added all 5 of you to the group.

On TLS, create a group, add first applicant, save as draft then add all other applicants to group before you submit.

Follow @chimzy09's suggestion to keep checking for dates.

If that doesn't work, as far as your travel is not tied to a particular date, you can fill a new France-Visas form then visit the TLS website to create a new application using the new form number and new travel dates. Alternatively, since you have not booked your appointment, after filling the new form, you can reach out to TLS and they will cancel the details you submitted on TLS so that you can input the new France-Visas form number and updated travel details.

Another option is to book your appointment then on appointment day, TLS staff will help you edit the France-Visas form and input the new travel dates (and accommodation if necessary)
