Christianity EtcThe Myth Of Anointing by Vizhon(op): 5:38pm On Mar 05, 2022
What comes to mind when we hear the word anointing? does it implies for one to be set aside, especially for an assignment? or does it stir a series of thoughts or imaginations such as one with special abilities who carries an invisible ring of light round about his head to be a halo, performing miracles and wonders everywhere they go (luke 4: 18).

Regardless of how we see anointing to be, we can view anointing in two ways; the physical anointing which is often ceremonial involves pouring, smearing, or sprinkling oil over an individual who is set to emerge into a religious office (Leviticus 8:12) (Exodus 28:41) (1 King 1:39). The physical type of anointing could also portray an act of rubbing oil on the body (Psalm 92:10) (Deuteronomy 28:40) (Ruth 3:3), also the physical anointing can also be done on objects, this is to identify the object as a thing for sacred use (Numbers 7:1) (Exodus 30:26).

The second view is more of the spiritual; the Holy spirit anointing (Isaiah 61: 1–3). This is the part where little things you do look as though it were extraordinary, as though you were immortal, as though things by all measures of human understanding, termed impossible were possible. You become a supernatural being, unstoppable!

The intent for anointing is purely in all understanding to set aside a person, object, or a place for a divine purpose and use. Anointing protects, and also empowers a person to accomplish or fulfill God’s work or purpose.
When the anointing is unleashed on a person, he becomes anointed! There were many people recorded in the scriptures who were anointed, and there were also instances where anointing was transferred from one person to another (2 Kings 2:9–15).

The greatest anointing ever recorded by mankind was the existence of God in flesh (Jesus). His anointing was peculiar, so unusual that he went about doing so much good, healing the sick, freeing the oppressed who were in the snares of the evil spirit because God was with him (Acts 10:38).

While many were known to be anointed, Jesus was the zenith of them all, the mediator and the deliverer who empowered all Christians to carry on his works. Jesus was the reason we are able to witness the Holy Spirit anointing in the men of God today, without God’s ( Jesus) manifestation on earth, there could be only little we could do because our works for Him would be limited.

Furthermore, anointing was also transferred and made accessible to any who is willing and ready to work with God for His purpose after Jesus departed the earth (John 14:12) (John 14:26).
In conclusion, many misconceptions a lot of people bear in mind about anointing is thinking the power lies in the oil used to anoint anyone. This is a wrong perception of God’s anointing, power is not present in the oil, but in the calling of God upon an individual, the oil is nothing but a symbol of anointing, the real power lies in the calling.
God bless You!
