⚡Israel is reportedly exploring the establishment of a military base in Somaliland to monitor the Houthis in Yemen and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a critical maritime chokepoint for global trade.

In return for the base, Israel would recognize Somaliland, an autonomous northern Somali region that declared independence in 1991 but lacks broad international recognition.

The UAE, which has maintained a base in Somaliland since 2017 and shares ties with both parties, is reportedly mediating on Israel’s behalf.
