Using this same logic we would say some Ukrainian soldiers are regular people drafted to fight against a Russian subjugation in their own land. Why did Russia invade Ukraine again?
We've seen former doctors, engineers etc drafted to fight and killed in Ukraine, and the popular rhetoric here is that 'Zelinskey is mad for killing his young men, Ukraine should surrender instead of fighting against a much more capable Russia forces'.( Can't the same be said for Hamas?)
Nobody blames Russia for killing drafted civilian, in fact it is celebrated and image of such is posted here for some to munch on.
Even with that Ukraine didn't hide behind any non combatant shield or employ a guerrilla tactics against the daunted '2nd strongest military in the world'. They confronted Russia head on, conventional to conventional, hence the large casualties on both sides which is mostly military.
