The rainy season in Nigeria brings welcome relief from the heat, but it also presents challenges for vehicle owners, particularly those whose vehicles are equipped with sunroofs. Neglecting sunroof maintenance can lead to water leaks that soak vehicle carpets, damage electrical components, create unpleasant odors, and reduce the value of the vehicle. Many car owners mistakenly believe that a closed sunroof is completely waterproof. In reality, most sunroofs are designed with drainage channels and tubes that collect and direct any water that passes the outer seal safely outside the vehicle. Over time, leaves, dust, dirt, and debris can clog these drainage tubes, preventing proper water discharge. When heavy rainfall occurs, water may overflow into the cabin, flooding carpets and interior trim. To avoid such problems during the rainy season, vehicle owners should adopt the following maintenance practices: 1. Inspect and Clean Sunroof Drainage Channels Regularly Open the sunroof and inspect the drainage channels around the perimeter. Remove leaves, dust, and other debris that may obstruct water flow. 2. Check Drain Tubes for Blockages Periodically test the drain tubes by carefully pouring a small amount of clean water into the drainage channels and confirming that it exits beneath the vehicle. Slow drainage may indicate a blockage that requires cleaning. 3. Inspect Sunroof Seals Examine the rubber seals for cracks, hardening, tears, or deformation. Damaged seals should be replaced promptly to prevent excessive water entry. 4. Keep the Sunroof Tracks Clean Dirt accumulation in the tracks can affect smooth operation and compromise sealing performance. Clean the tracks using a soft brush and appropriate cleaner. 5. Lubricate Moving Components Where recommended by the vehicle manufacturer, apply suitable lubricants to moving parts to ensure smooth opening and closing of the sunroof. 6. Avoid Parking Under Trees for Extended Periods Falling leaves, seeds, and other debris can quickly block drainage channels and increase the risk of leaks. Proper sunroof maintenance is a simple but essential aspect of vehicle care, especially during Nigeria's rainy season. A few minutes spent inspecting and cleaning the sunroof drainage system can save vehicle owners significant repair costs and prevent the inconvenience of flooded carpets and damaged interiors. Regular preventive maintenance remains the most effective way to keep vehicles dry, comfortable, and reliable throughout the rainy months. |

For Nigerians that feel foof na food, read the following bible verses. “If you come across a bird’s nest beside the road… and the mother is sitting on the young or on the eggs, do not take the mother with the young.” — Deuteronomy 22:6–7 There are also related passages showing concern for nursing animals. Exodus 23:19 and 34:26: “Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.” Leviticus 22:28: “Do not slaughter a cow or a sheep and its young on the same day.” These laws reflect a broader biblical principle of compassion toward animals and respect for the natural order. Hunger never finished from Nigeria even with our foolish choice. E dey increase more. |
