Politics › Re: Senate Moves To Ban Foreign Currencies In Nigeria by VULCAN(m): 4:37pm On Dec 17, 2024 |
What a lazily thought out and Draconian solution to a problem that has a most elegant and simple solution. Name 3 countries doing well economically in the world that have these laws. You can't because there are none. The basis of a healthy economy and an affordable exchange rate is NOT snatching everybody's dollars but instead boosting the exports of such a country. Of course that involves actual work by a serious govt and not a childish knee jerk reaction like you have proposed here. Germany, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Rwanda, Saudi and Chile did not grow their economies via your brutish means. Rather, they found what they had comparative advantage and began to push it out and their economies grew, of course at different levels but at least all of them grew. Whereas, you think like APC, short term and anti-people. May knowledge deliver you 4words: This as always been my take.
I am proposing the following solutions to mitigate or solve the free fall of naira against foreign currency.
After careful consideration, here is what i propose: 1. The Federal Government (FG) should place a ban and make illegal the presence or utilization of physical dollars(foreign currency) in Nigeria. Any international remittance received should be promptly converted to the local currency (Naira) upon receipt by the recipient or deposited into their domiciliary account. 2. Upon entry into Nigeria, all foreign currencies must be converted to Naira or deposited into the owner's domiciliary account. It would be deemed illegal to enter Nigeria with any other currency aside the naira. 3. All transactions involving the purchase of foreign exchange for international transactions should be conducted electronically. This electronic system would enable efficient tracking and monitoring of foreign exchange transactions. 4. Individuals with physical dollar(foreign currency) will be given a specified timeframe to convert them to Naira or deposit them into their domiciliary account. Owning physical dollars will be illegal after the stipulated period. 5. Funds held in domiciliary accounts cannot be transferred to another domiciliary account but can be used for international transactions or converted to Naira. The sources of foreign exchange will be documented electronically through banks or fintech platforms, ensuring transparency and accountability in the process.
This, i believe will greatly stabilizer the fall of naira and every regain its strength. |

It's amusing that some people are limited to ONLY seeing the sweet side of investment and completely ignore the obvious downsides staring them in the face. With the continued fall in the value of the Naira, what makes you think that N175M in 35 yrs time will be able to CLEAR just 2 containers from the port? I said clear not import. The Naira will continue to fall in value whether you like it or not as none of the billion dollar loans Tpain is swallowing are being reinvested into boosting production capacity. Most farmers are suffering, almost all manufacturers are struggling and exporters are feeling serious pains yet you are hoping on a 35yr investment that will generate the same Naira at a grossly devalued rate SUPERPACK: You forgot that the building still belongs to you plus the rents coming in. Add it to real estate appreciation and that building will be valued at minimum of 100 million naira in 10 to 15 years time. Add it up and total value from that house in that 35 years will be about #170,000,000. |

Every day I am reminded that most Nigerians lack comprehension skills. I do not know if this is a cultural thing or what but it is rife. Afolayan NEVER said Netflix is leaving, he said that they are no longer buying NEW CONTENT. These are two different things. As soon as Netflix saw that most Nigerians were screaming that they are leaving, they responded by saying "they are going nowhere", BUT kept silent about Afolayan's claims. elder1002: On the issue of Netflix i want to use this medium to commend the yourba directors and actors we have out here.
Omoh you guys are trying and bring out the best to explain your culture, tradition expecially from history perspective.
Netflix coming into the picture brings another different spice to make it more epic..
From jagun jagun to aluwampawo to others..
You don't see elder state men shouting at kings like my igbo brothers kingsmen or the usual prince marrying a poor village girl to a poor man marrying a rich man storyline ( most directors who don't do proper research on a ethnicity's and tribe always casting movies that doesn't actually represent the customs and traditions of a tribe)
The west is actual sharpening the Nollywood industry not to sideline the north.. expecially that film called THE KING OF CALIPHATE... the north did Justice to the film explaining deep into the corruption and political saga in Nigeria..
On my igbo side... Amafuana was a hit showing us the grass to grace of a sales boy expecially in Nigeria and how it plays to serve.. it showed the customs of how most igbo big business men were groomed.
I think Nollywood is getting it right with this new innovations explaining our customs, traditions and uniqueness of our individual tribe, ethnicity's and race as Nigerians.. The beauty of what makes us uniquely unique as tribe
I believe Netflix saw this potential and they won't even think of packing out from Nigeria because of the potentials we exhibit and the creativity.
Netflix is going no where and it's here to stay and harvest the potentials we have as Nigerians.
In future years to come, i hope we innovate our film industry to doing more tech inclined science fiction films as the west.
Nigeria is blessed |
