The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), has begun a nationwide crackdown on landlords and property owners who have rented out to non-Ghanaians with no immigration status. According to the GIS, these rented properties and residences have become the haven for cyber fraudsters and other criminals. “The use of such properties by persons who are illegally residing in the country make such owners liable of the offence of harboring an illegal migrant, as stipulated in Section 52(1)(b) of the Immigration Act 2000 (Act 573),” said a release signed by Comptroller-General, Kwame Asuah Takyi. “Section 52(1)(b) states that, a person who knowingly harbours any person whom he knows is to be deported or has reasonable grounds to believe has acted in contravention of this Act commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding GHS1,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or both,” the statement added. The strongly-worded release by the Immigration Service boss comes on the back of a viral video showing about 5 immigration officials under attack by persons suspected to Nigerians at Kasoa in the Central Region. source:https://afrinewsheadlines.com/2019/02/18/many-nigerians-nabbed-as-gis-begin-nationwide-crackdown/

Tunisian security forces have killed a senior
member of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb
who was wanted by Algeria for two and a
half decades, officials said.
Tunisian security forces have killed a
senior member of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic
Maghreb who was wanted by Algeria for
two and a half decades, officials said.
"A terrorist wanted by Algeria since 1993 was
killed in an operation carried out by the Special
Unit of the National Guard," Tunisian interior
ministry spokesman Khlifa Chibani said
Saturday.
A security source said the person killed was
Bilel Kobi, an Algerian who was close to the
network's leader Abdelmalek Droukdel.
Kobi had been charged with overseeing links
between the network, known by its French
initials AQMI , and its Tunisian branch, the
official said on condition of anonymity.
Another Algerian, Bechir Bin Neji , thought to
have been the commander of an AQMI cell
in the Sammama region of Tunisia, was also
found dead with an assault rifle by his side,
Chibani said.
The Friday evening operation took place in
the Mount Sammama area of central-
western Tunisia, which lies in a range of
hills that are a favoured hideout of Al-Qaeda
and Islamic State group jihadists.
It is adjacent to Mount Chaambi, considered
to be the jihadists' main rear base near the
border with Algeria.
The area is the scene of regular clashes
between the army and jihadist groups.
Tunisian authorities announced last spring
that they had killed several members of
AQMI's Tunisia branch, which had claimed a
series of deadly attacks against security
forces.
Since its 2011 revolution, Tunisia has faced
a jihadist insurgency responsible for the
deaths of dozens of soldiers, police, civilians
and foreign tourists.
Tunisia has been under a state of
emergency since November 2015, when a
suicide bombing in Tunis claimed by the
Islamic State jihadist group killed 12
presidential guards.
The last major attacks were a series of
deadly operations in 2015 and an IS
offensive into the town of Ben Guerdane on
the Libyan border in March 2016.
Thousands of Tunisians have joined jihadist
groups fighting in Iraq, Syria and
neighbouring Libya.

Libya to mark 7 years since
revolution Since the fall of Gaddafi in 2011, which led to the disintegration of the security apparatus, Libya has been torn apart by the struggle for influence It’s been seven years since the Libyan revolution and 42 years of an authoritarian regime under Muammar Gaddafi. I do not expect to be robbed of my youth and my life, I am going to throw myself into the sea with the migrants, without returning. Libyans are still waiting to see the end of a chaotic transition that continues and the birth of a democratic state . To celebrate the anniversary of the revolution of 2011, the authorities have a line up of programs at the Martyrs square,in the heart of the capital, where Gaddafi used to deliver his speeches. But for many Libyans, there is not much to celebrate in a rich oil country where basic services are still lacking as violence and divisions continue, fueling uncertainty and despair, especially among young people. Hamdi al-Bechir is only 17 years old, but says “wait for deliverance for seven years”. “I do not want to wait 42 years as my father did with Muammar” Gaddafi. “I do not expect to be robbed of my youth and my life, I am going to throw myself into the sea with the migrants, without returning,” said Hamdi, in front of the clothing store where he works. Since the fall of Gaddafi in 2011, which led to the disintegration of the security apparatus, Libya has been torn apart by the struggle for influence . Two authorities are competing for power and none has managed to restore order in the territory it claims to control. A presidential and legislative elections is scheduled for 2018. source:euronews http://zipvale.com/DJWi

At least 23 illegal migrants were killed and 124 were injured as the truck that was smuggling them on the road to the south of Bani Walid town crashed. The spokesman of the Bani Walid Hospital, Hatim Al- Twaijir, told the press on Wednesday that over 300 illegal immigrants, mainly from Somalia and Eritrea, were onboard the truck – 60 km to the south of Bani Walid – this morning. “124 migrants were wounded, 35 of whom need urgent transfer to Tripoli hospitals, while 7 others need extensive care, yet the rest are in stable conditions.” Libyan News Agency reported the Bani Walid General Director, Mohammed Al-Mabrouk, as saying..... http://zipvale.com/Cbqz |

for second time in a week, US
military forces occupying northeast
Syria have attacked Syrian
government forces, blowing up a
Russian-made T-72 battle tank on
Saturday. According to a statement
made today by Lt. Gen. Jeffrey
Harrigian, commander of US Air
Forces Central Command, US forces
saw a Russian tank in Syria that
“took a shot at us” and the US side
called in an airstrike in “self-
defense.”
Harrigian said that the US troops
were in a “defensive position” when
they spotted the Russian tank and
fired on it. He said he could not rule
out the possibility that the tank was
being driven by Russian soldiers
when the US attacked it.
Last week’s US attack on forces loyal
to the Syrian government were first
reported to have killed a total of 100
fighters, with one or two Russians
possibly in the mix. But just today
new information suggests that the US
attack had killed up to 100 Russians
fighting in special “ISIS killers”
squads seeking to mop up the last of
the extremist group in Syria.
Losing 100 Russians to a US attack in
Syria not only shifts a US/Russia
proxy war to a US/Russia hot war
(on one side thus far), it also carries
with it a great political downside for
President Vladimir Putin as the
Russian presidential election season
begins. Liberal challenger to
Putin, Grigory Yavlinsky, is already
trying to score political points by
criticizing the lack of transparency
over what Russians are dying for
inside Syria. Putin is stuck between a
rock and hard place, as he surely
understands the dangers of direct
retaliation but also sees the political
downside of doing nothing as US
forces kill Russians in Syria.
