In a bid to engage and create more openings for youths, Lagos state governor Akinwunmi Ambode has revealed plans to build 5 new theaters in the state. The governor had revealed this when he attended a stage play at the Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos. The play was titled Heartbeat The Musical…A New Beginning, and was directed by Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva. He said, “I never believed I could sit down for two hours, I thought I would just pop in briefly and then leave, but this is awesome and fantastic, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The mere fact that I believe strongly in arts, entertainment and sports, everything that is arts, like I said, before the end of next year, we are going to have five new theatres in Lagos. The nominees have been announced for the 2017 Golden Globe Awards, with La La Land & Moonlight grabbing the most film nominations. The nominees were announced by Golden Globe winners Don Cheadle and Laura Dern and Golden Globe nominee Anna Kendrick. FX's People vs O.J. Simpson: An American Crime Story lead the way in the TV nominations. The 2017 Golden Globes will air on the 8th of January, 2017, and will be hosted by The Tonight Show host, Jimmy Fallon. There were nods for a couple of popular films, including Deadpool, which got nominated for Best Comedy. Disney's Moana was also nominated for Best Animated Picture. A stampede at the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Ikotun, Lagos state ended with 3 people losing their lives. The stampede occurred on the 10th of December, during the church's healing service. The church's general overseer, Pastor T.B. Joshua had been present for a healing service, and worshippers had come out en masse to meet him. The three people who fell down in the stampede were taken to the Isolo General Hospital, where they were confirmed dead. Two of them were reportedly identified as Emeka Okonkwo and Emmanuel Oherin. “It was the church’s annual deliverance and healing programme. Usually at this time, the church becomes a beehive of activities as people come in their thousands to see the prophet for miracles," an eyewitness was quoted as saying. Members of the Senate have warned Nigerians to desist from participating in the MMM ponzi scheme, saying it would soon crash and leave them with nothing. The Chairman of the Senate committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, urged Nigerians to be careful with where they put their hard-earned money. Ibrahim said: “Any financial institutions of any kind that is not under the regulation of a Regulator such as MMM is a pyramid that will soon burst. We engaged the CBN and they have issued a statement in the recent past. So Nigeria should be wise and know that there is no free money anywhere. 38 people have been reported dead and 166 more injured after two bombs went off outside the Vodafone Arena in Istanbul, Turkey on Saturday night. The Vodafone Arena is home to the Besiktas football team, and the first explosion was a car bomb right outside the stadium. A suicide bomber then attacked an adjacent car park seconds later. Majority of the victims were police officers. The country has declared a day of mourning for the incident, with Prime Minister Binali Yildirim ordering flags be flown at half mast. The bombings had occurred less than two hours after a match between Besiktas and Bursaspor had ended, and President Tayyip Erdogan described the incident as a terrorist attack aimed to create maximum casualties. A four-part documentary on Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine, chronicling their partnerhsip and their impact on entertainment is coming to HBO. The series is set to be titled The Defiant Ones, and will be directed by Menace II Society director, Allen Hughes. Hughes had filmed Dre and Iovine over three years for the documentary. HBO's Programming President Casey Bloys said in a statement: "The Defiant Ones has everything you expect in a great story – drama and humor, tragedy and triumph. The First Lady, Aisha Buhari has denied circulating pre-wedding photos of daughter Zahra Buhari and husband-to-be, Ahmed Indimi. In a statement through her Special Assistant on Media, Adebisi Olumide-Ajayi, Mrs Buhari revealed that the couple wanted their upcoming marriage to be a private issue.
