The Senate President, Bukola Saraki on Tuesday begged his fellow lawmakers on the need to deliver good governance to the people while stressing that the real change desired by all can only be achieved if legislators of the 8th assembly worked together. Saraki who made the remarks on his Twitter account, @bukolasaraki while addressing his colleagues as the senate resumes said “it is time we remind ourselves of the solemn promise to deliver real change, which can’t be achieved in atmosphere distracted politics” He added that the recess had in no small measure helped in consolidating stability of the National Assembly. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/lets-achieve-real-change-by-working-together-saraki-begs-lawmakers/#sthash.dV1BB5xm.dpuf

Politics / US Urges FG To Prosecute Officials Involved In Trafficking-related Corruption by WAYword: 11:53am On Jul 28, 2015 |
The United States has urged the Federal Government to take proactive measures to investigate and prosecute government officials suspected of trafficking-related corruption and complicity in trafficking offences. This was contained in the 2015 Trafficking in Persons report, which placed Nigeria in Tier 2. Nigeria was also a Tier 2 country in 2014 report. The report which was officially presented to the public yesterday by the Secretary of State, John Kerry, also asked the Federal Government to stop provision of financial and in-kind support to the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) for recruiting and using child soldiers, sometimes by force. “The Borno State government continued to provide financial and in-kind resources to the CJTF, which was also, at times, aligned to the Nigerian military in operations against Boko Haram,” the report said. It said support to CJTF should cease until the group, “which allegedly perpetrate other trafficking abuses against women and children,” stop such acts. The report however commended Nigeria, particularly the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and Other Related Matters (NAPTIP) for identifying and providing services to “an increased number of victims.” and “continued extensive awareness campaigns throughout the country.” This is even as the report observed, “the government of Nigeria does not fully comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking.” http://sunnewsonline.com/new/us-urges-fg-to-prosecute-officials-involved-in-trafficking-related-corruption/
