USB (Universal Serial Bus) is a cable used to connect your device to your PC while some people use it for charging. Its functionality vary from one cable to another due to differences in its build. Do you particularly know how to identify original and fake USB cables or cords?

If you aren’t using the quality USB cords you will likely experience delay in charging or experience partial contact while connected to your device. Some of these fake cords can also make your device extremely hot when plugged in. So this post will guide you on how you will identify original and fake USB cables before buying them.

How to Identify Original USB Cables/Cords

When you take a good look at your USB, you will see two holes that reveals the bus/contact. What you should look out for is the colour of the conductor inside it. If its colour is gold then that means its copper, and it's original. Copper has relatively high conductivity and tensile strength than aluminium.

Before buying a USB cable make sure the contact inside is Gold in colour and not Aluminium.

Nigerian Telcos have deactivated about 10.7 million SIM cards and this has led to affected customers picketing telcos’ customer centers across the country, Guardian reports.

The SIM cards were barred after the Nigerian Communications Commission, the Nigerian telecoms industry regulator, gave carriers a seven-day ultimatum to deactivate pre-registered SIM cards and those with poor biometric capturing from their networks.

The report by Guardian reveals that a number of aggrieved customers interviewed indicated that they were duly registered and were surprised when they discovered their SIM cards had been barred.

Thisday Live reported that the NCC had given this directive as a fall out of its meeting with the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Department of State Security (DSS), the network operators. The parties present at the meeting had pointed attention to crimes committed in the country via unregistered telephone lines across various networks.

BBM and PayPal have teamed up to make sending and receiving money through your BBM Chats even easier. Just connect your PayPal account to your BBM. Once your BBM contacts do the same, you can start sending and receiving money – it’s that simple.

Starting today, the external beta will be available for BlackBerry, iOS and Android BBM users in Canada, and will roll out to other regions around the globe in the coming weeks.

How PayPal on BBM works?

It’s really simple:
Select the PayPal “Send Money” icon in BBM
Connect your PayPal account
You can start sending money to family and friends once they’ve also connected their PayPal accounts to BBM
From there, you’ll simply select the PayPal icon directly in BBM, enter in the amount of money, review the details, and hit send – that’s all it takes!

Do you need to have the PayPal app on your device to transfer money through BBM?

No, you do not have to have the PayPal app on your device to send money as the transfer happens through BBM

Why would someone use PayPal to send money through BBM?

Whether you’re paying a roommate back for rent or splitting dinner with friends, buying a group gift or sending your kid some spending money, sending money with PayPal through BBM is easy because it’s where your conversation is already happening. People don’t have to leave BBM to send a photo or file. So, why should they have to with money? – Pay and get paid in the moment, right in your BBM conversations, using your mobile device.

This beta is currently only available to select BBM users in Canada. What are the plans for other regions? Will it be available globally?

Yes, it will be. We are rolling out the beta experience starting with select users in Canada, with more countries to follow shortly. Stay tuned for details on the roll out.

MNP enables a subscriber move from his service provider (donor) to another (recipient) without losing the number he/she already uses (eg change from MTN to Etisalat without losing his/her MTN number).

How To Port In To Etisalat from MTN

Changing from MTN to Etisalat means you want to “port out” of MTN and “port in” to Etisalat. The “porting” process is simple and after switching to Etisalat, you will still retain your MTN number.

To get started, Just follow through the steps below:

==> Visit any etisalat experience center
==> Present a valid form of ID & Fill out a port form
==> Send a text with ‘PORT’ to 3232
==> Keep using your phone while wait to receive an SMS confirming your port request has gone through
==> Change your SIM card to the new one you will receive (not to worry, your number is still the same

Switching your line to Etisalat will happen within 24hours and you can keep using your phone while you wait for the switch to go through.

I hope this helps.

Kindly note that same process applies if changing from Etisalat to MTN or any other network.

Happy Porting!

After websites published a photo of an intoxicated police officer seen in Lagos yesterday, the officer has since been identified and arrested by the Lagos State Police command. Read Police statement below:

"The attention of the Lagos State Police Commissioner, CP Fatai Owoseni has been drawn to a pictorial publication online depicting a Policeman in uniform alleged to have been drunk. This is to inform the general public that the said Policeman has since been identified and arrested by the Command and that the Commissioner of Police has ordered a full blown investigation into the case, in accordance with the Force disciplinary procedures."
In line with the stand of the current Force leadership on discipline, the Commissioner of Police has repeatedly warned Police officers of the Command to desist from engaging in acts of indiscipline and going contrary to the ethics and professional standards of the Force which are capable of dragging the name of the Force and the Command to disrepute. While thanking the public for its continued support in exposing erring officers, he enjoined them to continue to do so to help the Command to improve on its service delivery.
