Pre clinical was easily the most challenging for me in medical school . That part swallowed a lot of my colleagues . Mental health issues, suicidal attempts and even withdrawal from med school 🥹🥹
The back to back tests . The fear of not crossing over to the clinical side.
The pressure was immense . Reading every time and the calendar was January to December without break .
I remember how we were camped in Mellanby hall still taking lectures and preparing for EOP when other students were at home resting .
Clinicals was a breath of fresh air . I was better and smarter and knew how to navigate my way .
Glory be to God now . I’ll become a specialist soon.

To the folks still in medical school, breathe and survive . Everything would end eventually.

The medical curriculum is different.
For example, a physiology major might be vast in Physiology but what about biochemistry, anatomy( embryology , gross anatomy , neuro anatomy and histology ) and public health. We were even introduced to Path and Pharm from 300 level in my time .
Medical students are often taught separately from 200 level mostly by medical consultants. Most federal institutions follow the same template.
Also, the first professional exam is taken in 300 level which is prerequisite for moving to the clinical aspect of the medical training.

Same thing in Ibadan . Some folks crossed from physiology , biochemistry and Chemistry to medicine after 100 level .
It wasn’t the best 3 tho. There was a cgpa bench mark . In my time , it was folks with at least cgpa of 6.3.
About 15-20 joined us then . Also , DE after a first degree or A level

Well, DE spots are usually very limited and competitive. So starting from 100 level might not be bad after all .
One of my classmates in med school did physiotherapy as first degree and still started 100 level with us because he took another jamb instead of DE.

The trick is to study the 'vital' parts, not to read the whole book.

In my time in Ibadan, there were usually few spots reserved for DE students to join in 200 level . Folks with first degree and Cambridge A level could join in 200 level after meeting the admission criteria

In my class in medical school , I had folks who came back for medicine after studying vet medicine, physiotherapy , Agric etc . Heck there was a naval officer too who came back after attending the NDA.
