Iamlordgee: I'm sharing this because it is thought-provoking.. "My Dear Nigerian Youths", by Prof. Isa. I am very angry and that is why I am addressing you. You are the source of my anger and I want to vent my spleen- maybe not at you directly- but at the arrogance of your ignorance. You sit in front of a computer and rant all day through social media but with every click, you make money - not for yourself - but for Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook). With every megabyte of data you spend complaining and maligning, you make stupendous bucks for Etisalat, Glo and Airtel. Over the next two years, the number of Nigerian millionaires will jump by 47% but most likely you will not be among because you are too busy whining and complaining. And yet about 60% of Nigeria’s 170m population are below 35 years. Oh, what a waste! By the way, Mark Zuckerberg was 19 when he started Facebook. Africa’s youngest billionaire, Ashish Thakkar, is 31. He escaped from the Rwandan genocide and relocated to Uganda where he started an IT business. Collin Thornton, who made his millions by fixing bad computers and setting up Dial-a-Nerd, is 35. Adam Horowitz, an 18-year-old entrepreneur, started 30 websites in 3 years before he became successful. The only thing you have ever started is an online petition. Have you heard of Jason Njoku? He’s 33 and the founder of Iroko TV. He received $8m investment into his company just a few years ago. What he does? Sharing the same Nollywood films that you spend hours to watch online. He didn’t just hang around waiting for Buhari to make something happen or blaming Jonathan for not making anything happen. Kamal Budhabhatti was deported from Kenya but while on the flight, he thought of the opportunities in Kenya. He found his way back after 6 months and today his company is valued at $30m. He’s 36. Have you heard of Chinedu Echeruo? Apple just paid $1b for his app. He’s a Nigerian like you and all he did was attempt to fix a problem. But for you, the only thing you attempt to fix are your nails- and your hairdo! Chinedu moved to New York in 1995 and found it difficult to navigate the city with ease so he developed HopStop to fix the problem. Stop listing all the problems - we know them already but what are you doing about them? Awolowo was 37, Akintola was 36, Ahmadu Bello was 36, Tafawa Balewa was 34, Okotie-Eboh was 27 and Enahoro was 27 at the time of independence of Nigeria. In 1966, the first coup was led by Kaduna Nzeogwu (29) and stopped by Murtala Mohammed (28), TY Danjuma (28), IBB (25), Sanni Abacha (23) and Shehu Yar'adua (23). It brought in Yakubu Gowon as Head of State at 32 and Olusegun Obasanjo at 29. You are in your 40s and you still sag your trousers. Of course, you know Linda Ikeji. You’ve spent hundreds of hours on her blog laughing and commenting while she smiles her way to the bank. She’s just built a house for her father in the village- just by you clicking on her gossip and sharing. Your day is not complete without a stop by at her blog. She was as broke as you are but she turned a hobby into a business. Are you that void of understanding? You think those politicians have any regard for you? That is why I referred to the arrogance of your ignorance at the beginning of this diatribe. You have a false estimation of yourself. You have an over bloated ego. You are only as good as an election ticket - pure and simple. You are only good to be used and discarded like a used ballot paper. Who keeps a used ballot paper anyway? That is why they only remember you every four years. nice but is ur name on the success list? |

Crime › Zephany Nurse Baby-snatcher Jailed In South Africa by wezzyjasified(op): 2:25pm On Aug 15, 2016 |
A South African court has jailed a woman for 10
years for kidnapping a baby from her hospital
bed 19 years ago and raising her as her own.
The 51-year-old woman was arrested in 2015
after people noticed an uncanny resemblance
between the girl, Zephany Nurse, and another
girl at school.
DNA tests carried out by police then proved that
the two girls were sisters.
Judge John Hlophe told the defendant she had
"betrayed" Zephany by her actions.
No winners in tragic case
Africa Live: More updates on this and other
African stories
The kidnapped girl's biological parents, Celeste
and Morne Nurse, called her Zephany, but the
name she grew up with has not been revealed to
protect her identity.
The convicted woman has also not been named
for similar reasons.
Local media have previously reported that
Zephany does not wish to have a relationship
with her biological parents and considers the
woman who kidnapped her as her mother.
She has decided to continue living with her
abductor's husband, whom she grew up believing
to be her father.
Outside the court, Zephany's biological
grandmother Marilyn said she was not happy
with the length of the sentence, but hoped that
the family would now have a chance to bond
and form a relationship with Zephany.
The judge told the accused she had had "all the
time in the world" to return the child but had
chosen not to.
Annual local media coverage of the parents'
birthday celebrations for their missing baby
daughter meant that there was no way the
defendant could not have known they were still
looking for her, he said.
He also said her decision to plead not guilty and
portray herself as a victim in the affair counted
against her.
Bittersweet victory: Pumza Fihlani, BBC News,
South Africa
It is a story that has gripped South Africa, but
now finally has some form of closure.
The 52-year old woman convicted of kidnapping
Zephany Nurse watched stone-faced as the
judge handed down his sentence.
Members of the Nurse family and the family of
the accused packed the Cape Town courthouse.
Delivering his ruling, Judge Hlope criticised the
woman for lying to the court during the trial.
He dismissed as "a fairytale" her claim that the
baby girl had been handed to her by another
woman at a railway station.
The soft-spoken seamstress raised Zephany as
her own, just a few kilometres from the home of
her biological parents.
The Nurse family's victory in court is
bittersweet.
The woman responsible for Zephany's kidnap
may be behind bars, but their daughter has
decided to continue living with the husband of
the woman who kidnapped her.

Manchester derby in China off after heavy
rain leaves pitch unplayable
The pre-season game in China between
Manchester United and Manchester City has
been called off because heavy rain has left the
pitch unplayable.
The surface at the Bird's Nest stadium in Beijing
was described as "bad" by United boss Jose
Mourinho on Sunday.
And before the game was called off, City boss
Pep Guardiola said his main hope was for
players to avoid injury.
Both City and United said "tournament
organisers and clubs" decided to cancel the
match at the 2008 Olympic Stadium.
Rain had fallen overnight and there were
forecasts of more heavy rain on Monday.
The clubs' planned training sessions were
switched away from the stadium on Sunday to
the Olympic Sports Centre, about a mile away.
The fixture cancellation capped a chaotic 24
hours for the Red Devils. Manager Mourinho's
planned news conference had to be scrapped as
too many people tried to get into a room which
was deemed too small and too hot.
And a plane carrying some of the players had to
make an unscheduled stop in Tianjin, around
160km from Beijing, as storms hit the Chinese
capital.
United will leave Beijing to return to Manchester
later on Monday as planned, while City are due
to fly to Shenzhen on Tuesday for Thursday's
game against Borussia Dortmund. |

Education › Re: Lecturer Asks Students To Submit Notes!!! *pics* by wezzyjasified(m): 2:41pm On Jul 24, 2016 |
cozy7: 1. How did he handle students' note that appear in those big "6 in one" notebooks n therefore hardly begin a particular course from d first page in d notebook? 2. How abt those who write with a terrible writing that even they themselves who wrote it can't read? 3. Then there are those who simply write with d highest level of abbreviation I've we've ever seen. They shorten everything, including 2 letter words. So only them can decrypt it. 4. We still hv those who write in one note n then complete it in a totally different note. 5. Hoever, I've seen some students who write with their laptops n tablets. Some use recorder, so they always playback d lectures rather than read. 6. Not to forget that most of us buy notes n just don't write your name on it, even wen we do, we barely write our real names as known by d sch mgt.
U say a PROF will go through all these by himself? Lolz! Plz move that statement to d jokes section, its not possible for him to go through all d students note n then make them too. Haba! guess you know my lecturer pass me..thanks..you can help me move it to the joke section |
