A big explosion with a loud strange voice hit Akure, Ondo state and destroyed many houses. Nothing less than 100 hundred buildings were in the early hours of Saturday destroyed following an explosion that rocked Ondo State. However, the explosion happened in the early hours of Saturday at Eleyowo, Akure, along Owo-Akure highway around 1 a.m. According to residents of the area, a terrifying loud bang was heard when everyone was already asleep. Also affected in the explosion was a full boarding school, Aina Awawul Secondary School. One the most popular churches in Akure, Possibility Ground Ministry. As well as fueling station and hundreds of buildings. The highway was cut off with hundreds of travelers stranded. Previously, it was reported that a report said that there was a fire outbreak in Agboju. Report shows that the fire incident happened not more than a week after an explosion rocked some communities in Lagos destroying many houses and other property. Ex Nigerian Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has donated N50 million to battle the spread of coronavirus in Nigeria as a relief fund. Atiku, after donated to relief fund called on Federal Government of Nigeria to provide a stimulus package for Nigerian families as the nation fights the spread of Covid-19. In his words, he said; As the coronavirus pandemic ravages the world, I applaud the various Nigerian state governments who have proactively taken measures, such as issuing stay at home orders, and shutting down non-essential markets and other places of mass gatherings, while also giving guidelines for social distancing. However, we must accept the fact that much of the Nigerian public have a subsistence existence. A large percentage of our people do not have the financial capacity to withstand long periods of self isolation and even lockdown. It is, therefore, incumbent on the Federal and state governments to provide palliatives to the Nigerian people to enable them survive, even as they abide by these necessary measures put in place for their own safety. CHECK ALSO: Coronavirus: Stop Harassing Nigerians If You Protect Oyedepo - RIFA To Nigerian Authority At an approximate 30 million households or thereabouts, government should devise modalities to distribute N10,000 as supplement for food stuff to each household, among other palliative measures, with no one left behind. It is thus time for the National Assembly to reconvene in an emergency session, perhaps by teleconference (in line with the demands of social distancing), to legislate a Stimulus Package Act that will cater for all Nigerian citizens. I also call on all Mobile Telephony Companies in Nigeria to urgently develop mobile money platforms so that government can reach the unbanked with financial assistance. I also urge these telecommunications firms to offer each of the 100 million mobile phone lines in Nigeria free credit of at least ₦1500 per mobile line. So that Nigerians who show symptoms, or those who just want information, can call the nearest available health facility, or even an ambulance service, as the case may be. This is what makes Nigeria great, when we help each other at such crisis times as this, irrespective of any differences. The Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed has tested positive for Coronavirus. Meanwhile, It was reported that the governor placed himself in self isolation after he made contact with Mohammed Atiku, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Atiku's son tested positive for the deadly virus after he got back to Abuja from abroad. The Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the Governor of Bauchi State, Mukhtar M. Gidado in a statement on Tuesday confirmed that the Governor is presently being quarantined after his result came out positive. Gidado disclosed that the governor’s test was the only positive result out of six initial tests carried out by Nigeria Centre for Diseases Control (NCDC) on his family and aides. The statement read: “This is to inform the general public that the result of the Six initial tests carried out by the Nigeria Centre for Diseases Control (NCDC) on His Excellency, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, his family and aides that accompanied hint to Lagos is out. “Of the Six initial tests carried out, one sample was confirmed positive of COVID -19. “The positive result happened to be that of His Excellency Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State. “At this point, it should be noted that the Governor is in self-isolation as his Doctors and officials from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) have taken full charge of his quarantine.“ However, the infected Governor advised those who had contact with him or any one known to undergo a test immediately in order to avert further spread of the COVID -19 epidemic. In Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, some youths from six States in the Southwest region, yesterday protested against the formation of Amotekun, the Western Nigerian Security Network. The group under the banner of ‘Yoruba Appraisal Forum’ that spearheaded the protest, wanted Amotekun scrapped across the six states of Ekiti, Oyo, Osun, Lagos, Ondo and Ogun States to avoid future calamity. However, it was revealed by the group that they had uncovered alleged plot to use Amotekun to destabilize the South West and ultimately the entire country, in 2023. They demanded that the entire Yoruba race would be endangered in 2023 with the existence of Amotekun. They even predicted that the network will be hijacked by politicians for insidious mission in the coming elections. Some of the placards they flaunted read: "Amotekun Will Turn our Youths to Militia Group”, "Amotekun Can Bring Proliferation of Arms" "Amotekun Motive, Shine Your Eyes" While addressing journalists at Ajilosun area where the protest was held, the group’s coordinator, Mr. Adeshina Animasaun, said the project of Amotekun was a laudable one, but insisted that it has been hijacked by those nursing ambition in 2023. Animasaun appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to rejig the country’s security architecture to prevent resurgence of what he called ‘militia groups’ with tendencies to pose dangers to the lives of the people. “We call on President Buhari to use his good office to call the Southwest Governors to order by prevailing on them not to sign the Amotekun bills into laws yet, until proper checks about such security are done”, he said. The group faulted the hurried manners at which the governors conducted the public hearings leading to formation of Amotekun, saying: “it ought to have been done senatorially, rather than bringing few people to the state capitals to contribute in a programme that lasted for 30 minutes” “The Southwest governors should be dissuaded from innocently equipping and funding a security outfit that some unscrupulous and wicked individuals have planned to use against the same people the governors have sworn to protect. “The governors should be made to realize that they should not allow themselves to be railroaded into taking an action they will regret later. “The nation’s security agencies like police National Intelligence Agency, Defence Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services (DSS) need to profile the current promoters of Amotekun security outfit with a view to ascertaining its real membership and their original intention”, he said. The group urged the handlers to take note of the warnings issued by Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, former Kaduna State Government, Balarabe Musa, and the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore and others about the hazards inherent in Amotekun. English Premier League has finally suspended all matches due to the deadly coronavirus. The Premier League revealed that the decision followed a meeting of shareholders on Friday morning. According to the body, They will resume April, subject to medical advice and conditions. However, The Chief Executive, Richard Masters said: "Above all, we wish Mikel Arteta and Callum Hudson-Odoi speedy recoveries, and everyone else affected by COVID-19. In this unprecedented situation, we are working closely with our clubs, Government, The FA and EFL and can reassure everyone the health and welfare of players, staff and supporters are our priority." Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State has recorded no less than four people allegedly killed by Customs officers on Tuesday. It was gathered by Wiseloaded Media that the protest occurred at the opposite of NCS barracks in Ijokodo area of Ibadan. The barracks is located along the Ijokodo-Apete Road. However, the Witnesses revealed the trouble started when some Customs officers seized a trailer carrying prohibited items into the country. The officers after seizing the trailer were said to be driving it to their barracks. A witness said the trailer’s brake failed and the driver lost control of the vehicle which hit some commuters. Among those hit by the trailer were commercial motorcyclists plying the Apete-Ijokodo-Sango Road.
