Christianity EtcRe: Is Water Baptism Necessary For A Believer In Christ? by Wizzy667: 1:25am On Dec 29, 2022
One of the two ordinances that Jesus established for the church is Christian baptism. Jesus instructed, "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all I have commanded you," just before ascending into heaven. And without a doubt, I will be by your side until the end of time (Matthew 28:19–20).

According to these directives, the church is tasked with making disciples, teaching the gospel, and baptizing those disciples. Until "the very end of the age," these actions are to be taken everywhere (in "all nations"wink.

Therefore, baptism is significant just because Jesus mandated it. Prior to the church's foundation, baptism was used. In the past, Jews would baptize converts to symbolize their "cleansed" character. Because everyone needs to repent, John the Baptist mandated that everyone, not only Gentiles, be baptized in order to pave the way of the Lord.

However, as seen in Acts 18:24–26 and 19:1–7, John's baptism, which symbolized repentance, is distinct from Christian baptism. Baptism in Christ has a deeper meaning.
