PSON shouldn't waste their time. INEC will claim that those cards were fabricated by saboteurs and enemies of our democracy. |
A group, Peter Obi Support Network (POSN) has demanded explanations from Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the mass dumping of Permanent Voters Card (PVC) in major cities like Lagos and Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The group in a letter submitted to the Electoral body and dated August 30, 2022, said the PVCs being exhumed from dumping sites and gutters clearly exposed confidential information of owners of the mutilated cards. The group said, “in the last few weeks, various disturbing viral videos on social media platforms, notably Facebook and Twitter, showed thousands of permanent voters’ cards of eligible Nigerians being exhumed from gutters and refuse dumps in major cities like Lagos and Port Harcourt, Rivers State etc on daily basis, showing the names, pictures and other confidential information owners of the mutilated cards. “We find such disturbing viral videos extremely worrying and politically demotivating taking into cognisance the arduous rigorous process the average Nigerian faces in an attempt to comply with the registration demands prescribed by your agency, only to be flushed away, mutilated and destroyed in such a wicked, callous and dehumanizing manner by supposed staff working under your office for whatever selfish motives that may have actuated their horrible actions.” POSN also asked INEC to relocate the Polling Unit located almost inside the residence of one of the major contenders for the 2023 Presidential election in Bourdillon, Lagos State. “We have received credible reports from our members resident near Bourdillion part of Ikoyi, Lagos a particular polling unit is sited disturbingly close to the personal residence of one of the major contestants in the forthcoming presidential elections slated for February 25th, 2023, making them highly apprehensive of their ability to vote freely on any election day. “Their fears are not without foundation judging from events of the past elections where political thugs and social miscreants loyal to the cause of the presidential candidate had sought to undermine the peaceful voting process via violent intimidation in a bid to stop voters from voting for candidates of their choice, even when the suspected candidate was not a direct contestant in previous elections.” The group further requested that all INEC officials found to have manifestly connived and colluded with anti-democratic elements in the country should face the prosecution to serve as a deterrent to others. POSN demanded the creation of “practical and verifiable platforms where registered voters denied their rights to ownership/possessions of PVCs could ventilate their complaints and have same expeditiously remedied via the issuance of PVCs to them without delay.” https://independent.ng/peter-obis-group-demands-explanations-for-mass-destruction-of-pvcs-from-inec/ |
Did Melaye confess on national TV? Yes he said so himself. Is it a criminal offence to induce voters in deciding who becomes part chairman? Yes it is. Melaye should be invited by EFCC as soon as possible to explain himself. |
A two-time member of the National Assembly and spokesperson of the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign 2023, Senator Dino Melaye, has berated a former Minister of Aviation and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, for calling for his (Melaye) arrest for revealing in a recent interview that money was spent during the national convention of the People Democratic Party (PDP), where Dr. Iyorchia Ayu emerged as the national chairman of the party. Recall that earlier on Sunday, Fani-Kayode had issued a statement, calling for the arrest of Melaye, Ayu and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP over what he called a confession by Melaye over the manner Ayu emerged as PDP national chairman. Fani-Kayode said, “This is a grave and serious matter. It is a public confession of a criminal offence made by a senior figure within the PDP cabal that committed the said offence. It follows that Ayu’s election was a product of corruption and criminality and so was Waziri Atiku Abubakar’s as their party’s presidential flagbearer at a later convention which was conducted by him.” But reacting hours later, Melaye described Fani-Kayode’s action as ‘incoherent gibberish’ produced from the former Minister’s ‘temporary relief from insanity.’ He reiterated that there was no way a national convention of a party will hold without money being spent for logistics and others, hence he did not breach any known law by stating the obvious in the said interview. In a statement personally signed by Senator Melaye on Sunday night and titled, ‘Sorry FFK, PDP Has No Food For The Lazy’, the former federal lawmaker said Fani-Kayode was merely seeking attention having employed ‘all forms of ingratiation’ to be recruited by the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. “My attention has just been called to a statement issued by Femi Fani-Kayode, which as usual, was an incoherent gibberish produced from his temporary relief from insanity. How can one explain his momentary consciousness to react to an interview long granted, if not that his world of reality is not in sync with the world of sound minds. “His comment at best was a mixture of prevarication, lack of comprehension and a voyage in meddlesomeness and idleness. Truly, an idle hand and heart like that of FFK is the devil’s residence. Ordinarily, his rambling would have been ignored, but in this age of unrestricted access to the media even by unwholesome minds, care must be taken to put issues in the right context and perspective. “The roller-coaster FFK is merely seeking to receive attention, having employed all forms of ingratiation to be recruited by the Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, but failed. “To be sure, he contacted Timi Frank to help lobby for a job in the Campaign Directorate, but where is the record to help his desire? As a serial hustler around food dispensers, FFK’s misadventure into the issue of the leadership of the PDP is nothing but a subtle campaign to be noticed and rewarded by prospective paymasters. “Nigerians cannot forget in a hurry how FFK bootlicked and cajoled Yahaya Bello during his presidential experiment, but later jumped to the Presidential train of Senator Ahmed Lawan in the throes of the Presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress in an unabashed and unconscionable manner. Now that campaign structures have been formed by Parties and he’s sidelined, having lost face everywhere, he has found the PDP as the access card to his next meal. “The reality is that Professor Iyorchia Ayu, a man of repute and impeccable political profile was supported by Governors and members of the Party. It is not rocket science that though Professor Ayu emerged by consensus, a convention was held and delegates were mobilised to Abuja. Is FFK so obtuse that he can not understand that delegates could not have trekked from everywhere to Abuja without being transported? Has he not recovered well enough from the doses administered during his rehabilitation to understand that Governors and other leaders supported delegates from all states to the National Convention? Is he equating the sound mind of Judges with his own reprobate mind that he’s threatening to go to court over a matter that he has neither locus standi nor a reasonable cause? “Often when the issue of FFK comes up, I easily call to mind the time-standing analysis by President Olusegun Obasanjo of his personality, and the assertion that food is FFK’s price. His likes are appropriately described in Philippians 3:19, as belonging to the class of those ‘ whose god is their belly, and whose glory is their shame’. Sorry, PDP has no food for the lazy! “And knowing FFK’s reputation for political scavenging, let me also ask him the unanswered question. FFK, who bankrolled your statement?” Melaye queried. https://leadership.ng/call-for-arrest-melaye-blasts-fani-kayode-says-ex-minister-attention-seeker/ |

The e-valuation policy of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has been described as suffocating and retrogressive to both the vehicle dealers and the Nigerian economy.https://leadership.ng/customs-e-valuation-policy-fuelling-smuggling-motor-dealers-cry-out/ |
Although it is coming late, this is a welcome development as it will go a long way to save our nascent democracy. Nigeria is a natuon with diverse ethnic, tribal, cultural and religious people. Leadership positions must be organised in our laws to reflect this diversity. |
The Nigerian Senate is set to amend section 84 of the Electoral Act 2022 to ban same-faith tickets in future presidential elections. In the bill cited by LEADERSHIP, which is proposed by the Senator Smart Adeyemi, who represents Kogi West Senatorial District, he asserted that the same faith ticket is capable of tearing the country apart. At a press conference at the National Assembly (NASS) yesterday, Adeyemi, who came with his supporters singing Islamic and Christian songs, said he is a Christian and supports the Tinubu/Shettima ticket not because they are in the same APC, but that under their leadership, “no tribe will be subdued”. Adeyemi, who acknowledged the concern raised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) over the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket, said the organisation made some cogent observations, adding that “there have been oversights in key appointments in the past, which tends to keep the Christians at a disadvantage and this has caused apprehension amongst us.” The lawmaker said the diversity of Nigeria should be balanced, adding that “for the purposes of unity, we must balance up our diversity to a large extent. And it is in view of this that I am making some proposals. I have had discussions with the leadership of the Senate, my party leadership and a good number of senators. “The solution I hereby proposes, in order not to find ourselves in a similar situation in the future, is that the Electoral Act be amended as follows: the amendment of Section 84 of the Electoral Act 2022 by inserting a new sub-section (3) that no political party shall nominate candidates of the same religion as presidential candidates or vice-presidential candidates after this dispensation. “I hereby propose the amendment of Section 84 of the Electoral Act 2022 by inserting a new sub-section 3, When this is accommodated, it will serve as a guide against any oversight such as this in the future as further occurrences will be deemed as silent policies which will be capable of bringing down the fabrics of the nation,” Adeyemi said while carpeting the Upper Chamber for not blocking moves by the APC to field a Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2023 presidential elections. The lawmaker said the Senate made “a major oversight” during the amendment of the Electoral Act. Insisting that the failure of the Red Chamber gave the APC the opportunity to take such a decision, Adeyemi said the Senate would therefore introduce a new sub-section to Section 82 (14) of the Electoral Act 2022 to ban a repeat of such a move in subsequent elections. “We should’ve amended the Electoral Act to prevent candidates of the same religion. We made a major blunder. But I’m proposing a Bill to prevent recurrence in future elections beyond 2023,” he said. On his support for Tinubu and Shettima, Adeyemi said, “I have had the privilege of knowing the candidates personally before now, and my support for them as individuals is not based on the fact that they are members of the APC or because they are Muslims as I am a Christian myself. It is simply based on my knowledge of them as individuals, it is based on their track records and antecedents.” Lamenting the poor state of the nation, Adeyemi said, “The second challenge confronting our nation today is the issue of the poor state of our economy, the inexplicable poor exchange rate, the need for the consolidation of diversification of the economy and improving on the achievements of the current administration on infrastructural facilities such as roads, rail lines and aviation.” Adeyemi advised Tinubu and Shettima not to disappoint Nigerians when they come to power but to have balanced appointments. https://leadership.ng/senate-gets-bill-to-amend-section-84-ban-same-faith-ticket/ |
