How to get the actual measurement of your property Before you start: you will need a Measuring tape Cleanable marker A pen Paper Measuring a rectangle space is quite easy, Just measure out the length, and then measure out thewidth then multiply the length by the width. But things gets a little tricky when you have a space that is not in a rectangle form. In this situation all you have to do is, you create an imaginary rectangle from the space you are measuring. Look at our first diagram, let's assume you have a space like that to measure, then look at the second diagram to see how we created our imaginary rectangles, now those line can be imaginary or you can draw them with your marker or white chalk. When that is done, you can now measure all the rectangles and sum them up. Finally you will have some space that will be too small or you will get too lazy to turn it to a rectangle, You can still measure the length and the width, but remember to divide it by 2 before adding it to your main calculations. Remember our measurement are still in footage or square foot and tile deals usually sell in square meters, so our final measurement will have to be in square meters. Let's assume that after measuring our space we got Diagram 4. Our final calculations should look like this. 1. 10ftx8ft= 80sqft 2. 6ftx3ft= 18sqft 3. 2ftx2ft=4sqft 4. 2ftx2ft=4sqft 5. 2ftx4ft=8sqft 6. 2ftx3ft=6sqft 7. 1ftx1ft=1sqft 8. 1.5ftx1.5ft=2.25 Nb. I've chosen to ignore the areas in diagram 4, so the calculation will look easier, i advise you make provisions for those areas in your extra materials. If you sum the your measurements you will get 123.25 sqft. To convert to meter square: Simply multiply 123.25 by 114 then divide by 1600 11.0925 msq. Keep in mind that you will most likely need to order a little more tiles than what you need tobcover your actual square meter. Usually youbwill order about 5-10% extra, depending on the nature of your space (remember to areas you could not measure) and how much extra material you want to have as leftovers after your job. Thanks for reading.

Property owners who are about to tile their properties are often faced with a lot of trammels, often times you don't know which one comes first, getting the measurements of your property, choosing your tiles or contacting a professional tiler. It's very important to work with a professional, all through your tiling work, but hey! who said you can't do some work your self?. Getting to understand the processes will go a long way in helping you make the right decision for your property and also catch the tiler if he tries anything funny. And that brings me to one important reason why you should not just stand and watch the tiler do all the work, yes you paid him, but stop for a second and think, what if he is ripping you off, how would you know? Some tiler will intentionally give excessive quotation for your work, he will collect your money and buy what he needs for your job, then keeps the rest of the money. Ofcos you wouldn't know because you are not actively involved in the tiling of your project. Their are two important things you should know even before putting a call through to that tiler of yours 1. How to get the actual measurements of your property 2. How to calculate the number of square meters or cartons of tile that will tile your property. After that we will move to how to go about (3.)buying your tiles and then 4.the actual tiling work. |

write2obi:Good morning. Have a great day! |
Egunmogaji I've really thought about building a house and overlooking NEPA entirely, actually my 4th year mini project back in school was comparing cost of NEPA and solar energy in 10 year time frame, Nsukka urban as a case study, thought solar was cheaper, but it will cost a fortune to set up. As for internal courtyard, they always look lovely, but taking the security of the house in a place like Nigerian into consideration, and you'll have to renovate the courtyard area every now and again, cos of rain and weeds. |
EgunMogaji:I never thought of that. You know we wouldn't be complaining about hot weather if we have steady power supply in this country. |
Choosing Grout Choosing grout for your tile can be a daunting task. You need to decide on the look you are planning on having at the end of the project. Do you want your grout to match and blend, or do you want your grout to make statement, be bold? Here are some weekend tips: 1. Matching and Blending By matching and blending you are creating a less noticeable grout joint, therefore the lines will run together creating a harmonized area. Chose a color that is the same as all the edges of your tile 2. Making a Statement You can make a statement with your grout by contrasting. Chose a light grout with dark tiles or dark grout with light tiles Chose a color that is not in the same color family as your tile |
EgunMogaji:I'm really tired of seeing those tall roofs. But wouldn't it be too hot inside? |
EgunMogaji:Lovely roof Oga Egunmogaji. I like roofs like this, but my only fear is the height of the roof, putting Nigerian weather into consideration. |

It is not always the price of the tiles that matters, a bad tiler can make your expensive tile look crappy. Morning tips: Let the tiler start from less visited places like the store or kitchen, then you can properly assess his capability.
