⚡Elite police force deployed in major cities as violent protests flare up over shooting of teen. 🇫🇷 France’s elite police force, the RAID, was deployed to the cities of Bordeaux, Lyon, Lille and Roubaix on Thursday night as protests flared up once again across the country over the recent fatal shooting of a 17-year-old teenager by a police officer. In the northern city of Lille, six people were taken in for questioning after participating in a protest banned by authorities, the regional authority said in a Facebook post. Local police were assisted by members of the elite police force, the RAID, according to the post. Similarly, RAID was also deployed in the central French city of 🇫🇷 Lyon and the northern city of Roubaix, according to CNN affiliate BFMTV

⚡Riots also broke out in Brussels, 🇧🇪 Belgium on Thursday evening. The police carried out a raid, during which they searched for suspicious young people and searched for their torches. Most of those detained were released after checking their documents. Several cars were set on fire during the riots, and as police spokeswoman Ilse Van De Keire told reporters, calls to take to the streets "like in 🇫🇷 France" circulated on social media throughout the day. Anisens metro station has been closed , with the Brussels fire brigade describing the situation as "extremely tense". Brussels is currently hosting a two-day summit of 🇪🇺 EU heads of state and government dedicated to the situation in 🇺🇦 Ukraine and migration issues.
