The Wife of Nigerian President and National Chairman of Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Senator Oluremi Tinubu has empowered two hundred Anambra farmers with various farm implements and start up items to boost their farm businesses in the state and make them self-reliant.

The empowerment which falls within the purview of her Renewed Hope Agricultural Support Program, is a train-the-trainer initiative that will in the nearest future empower millions of Anambra people to not only become self employed but be employers of labour.

The 200 beneficiaries who had undergone intensive training in Feed processing, vegetable farming, drip irrigation installation and piggery, smiled home with farm implements relevant to their areas of training.

Distributing the empowerment materials on behalf of Nigeria's First Lady at Governor's Lodge Amawbia, the Wife of Anambra Governor Mrs Nonye Soludo said the Renewed Hope Agriculture Support Program is a medium scale agro support initiative that targets individuals who have the right passion to venture into lucrative agro-businesses.

She noted that the economic empowerment is delivered to both women and youth across the six (6) geopolitical zones to support the economic reforms of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Mrs Soludo urged the beneficiaries to use the empowerments very wisely and work harder to make the best benefits from them with a view to ending unemployment and poverty, build financial independence, create better income platforms, raise financial growth, and grow the economy.

According to her, the selection process passed through a transparent, random process that took note of individual criteria for the training and empowerment programs.

She maintained that the selection process ensured equal representation across board that accommodated different women groups, youth organizations, political associations and school clubs.

"The expectation is that you will not just become employed but ultimately lead a network of people who would find an exemplary impact from your businesses. We have trained you. Now, it is your turn to train others.

"First is that after today, your life would have had a greater impact; one that will not only benefit you but benefit your family, community, Anambra State, and our dear country at large. Secondly, you have passed through a comprehensive training period that prepares you for this important moment".

On the efforts of the state government in Agriculture, Mrs Soludo said already Anambra State government launched farm-to-feed initiative last year and had distributed 10,000 seedlings to farmers to encourage agriculture.

She commended Senator Oluremi Tinubu for this empowerment, saying it will enhance food security and financial independence of Anambra farmers.

On monitoring and evaluation of the beneficiaries, Mrs Soludo said "We will monitor their progress because assignment not monitored is as good as not given.

"We have set up Farmers' Market in all the 21 local government areas in Anambra State; thus, we will encourage them to bring their farm produce and sell them at subsidized rate."

Earlier, three Commissioners in Anambra State, Dr Forster Ihejiofor (Agriculture), Dr Afam Obidike (Health) and Mrs Ify Obinabo (Women Affairs and Social Welfare) identified the relevance of the empowerment in relations to food security, self-reliance and job creation in the state.

Speaking to our reporter, some of the beneficiaries, Kenneth Ezue (Orumba South, Emeka David (Idemili South), Odife Christiana (Anambra East), Ejikwa Ugochukwu (Awka North) and Asimonye Victoria Nonye (Ogbaru) promised to make good use of the empowerment items given to them to better their lots.###

IBB’S CONFESSION: A NEEDLESS REVELATION
THAT DIMINISHES HIS LEGACY

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) has completely lost the long-standing respect I once had for him. His recent confession regarding the annulment of the June 12, 1993, election raises more questions than answers and, in my view, does little to rehabilitate his image. Here’s why:

1. A Pointless Confession at the Wrong Time
What purpose does his admission serve at this critical moment in Nigeria’s history? The country is grappling with its worst economic crisis in decades, and Nigerians are more concerned with survival than rehashing past wounds. The nation has endured enough—from the civil war to years of misgovernance by corrupt leaders. This revelation adds no value to our present challenges.

2. A Betrayal of a Trusted Ally
IBB's claim that Abacha was responsible for the annulment reeks of betrayal. This was the same Abacha who, by IBB’s own admission, saved his life multiple times and prevented his government from being overthrown. Has he considered how Abacha’s family would feel about this posthumous blame? Integrity demands consistency, but this sudden shift in narrative paints IBB as someone willing to rewrite history to suit personal convenience.

3. A Tarnished Image of Leadership
With this confession, IBB has drastically reduced himself in the eyes of many who once held him in high regard, like my humble self. His statement now suggests that, much like Tunde Idiagbon was to Buhari, Abacha was the real mastermind and enforcer behind many of IBB’s major decisions. This revelation diminishes his perceived political acumen and makes one question whether he was truly in control of his own government.

4. A Misguided Use of Wealth and Influence
Instead of using his influence for meaningful development, IBB accepted a ₦10 billion donation to build a private library, benefiting only a select few. This is particularly painful considering that the northern region, including his home state of Niger, suffers from a staggering number of out-of-school children, poor healthcare facilities, and lack of basic infrastructure. Imagine the impact if those billions were used to build boreholes, improve schools, or provide healthcare for the masses. If he had chosen to invest in these critical areas, he might have regained some respect.

In the end, IBB’s confession does not rewrite history in his favor. Instead, it exposes the contradictions in his leadership, weakens his legacy, and reminds Nigerians why the country remains stuck in a cycle of failed governance.

IBB confession is needless, stupid, has no value and a complete waste of precious time. What have IBB contributed to our economy since after the Military era, if not this chicken-hearted, irrelevant, and inconsequential book that has no value whatsoever to Nigeria as a whole.
