⚡US spaceship lost over South Pacific following failed Moon mission.

A crippled American spaceship has been lost over a remote region of the South Pacific, probably burning up in the atmosphere in a fiery end to its failed mission to land on the Moon.

Astrobotic’s Peregrine lander was launched on January 8 under an experimental new partnership between NASA and private industry intended to reduce costs for American taxpayers and seed a lunar economy.

But it experienced an explosion shortly after separating from its rocket and had been leaking fuel, damaging its outer shell as well as making it impossible to reach its destination.

Thailand has discovered nearly 15 million tonnes of lithium deposits, a government spokesman said Friday, a boost for the kingdom’s goal of becoming a regional hub for electric vehicle production.

The find means Thailand has the third largest lithium resources, behind Bolivia and Argentina, but it is not yet clear how much can be exploited commercially.

The 14.8 million tonnes of lithium are distributed between two separate sites in the southern province of Phang Nga, government deputy spokeswoman Rudklao Intawong Suwankiri told The Nation television station.

“We are trying to find out how much can we use from the resources we found. It takes time,” Rudklao told The Nation.

Lithium is a key component in the manufacture of batteries used in electric cars, as well as smartphones and other electronics.

The government of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, which took over in August, has made it a priority to try to boost Thailand as a regional production hub for electric vehicles, building on the kingdom’s history of assembling conventional cars.

China will not back Zelensky - CNN

Ukraine is doing its best to maintain the support of international allies amid its ongoing armed conflict with Russia. Ukrainian president said he would like China, Moscow's most powerful political ally, to side with him, CNN reported. However, a Chinese version of peace is not what Zelensky desires.

Increasing pressure on Beijing was the focus of Zelensky's discussions with other officials at the Davos forum. But experts say Beijing is not yet ready to use its close ties with Moscow to increase pressure to end the conflict. And it is even more reluctant to do so on Kiev's terms.

Previously, China may have been willing to mediate because it didn't want Russia to lose too much. Now that the US is distracted by Gaza, Ukraine's resources are more limited and the situation has changed in Russia's favour, China has even less reason to "promote a just peace" as the West and Ukraine see it. China will not support terms that Russia rejects. Any attempt to engage China in such an environment will fail.

⚡Putin traditionally takes the plunge into icy waters on Epiphany bathing on Friday night, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.

The Russian president doesn't usually follow this tradition publicly, so we attached a couple of photos from January 2018, when Putin took an "ice bath" on Lake Seliger (Russia's Tver region).

Epiphany (Baptism) bathing is one of the oldest folk traditions existing in Russia. The Christian holiday commemorates the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River.
