1) when a Yoruba king dies, the abobaku (kings servant) is buried alive together with the corpse of the dead king
2) when a new Yoruba king is to be coronated, the heart of the late king will be removed from his corpse and given to the new king to it
3) it is a taboo for the wife of a Yoruba king to touch the head of her husband. Young yorubas don't know this
4) Yoruba kings are buried with the head of 7 human beings. These people are killed by the palace cult called ogboni fraternity which originate from Yoruba land

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST culture shock YOU HAVE EVER WITNESSED ??
1. In the eastern part of Nigeria whr a woman loses her husband to death, she must drink from the water used to wash his corpse to prove that she has no hands in his death
2. In Benue, when man has guests in his house and they are sleeping over, he is expected to give one of his wives to the guest for the night.
3. In Yoruba land, if a man dies while committing adultery, his corpse will be thrown out through a window..

Jobs/Vacancies / Nigerian Navy/ Merchant Navy by wunaESQ(m): 6:04pm On Nov 07, 2023
To whom it may concern

The Nigerian Navy and Merchant Navy are two distinct entities that serve different purposes and have different roles within the maritime industry.

1. Nigerian Navy: The Nigerian Navy is the branch of the Nigerian Armed Forces responsible for protecting the country's territorial waters, enforcing maritime laws, and safeguarding its maritime interests. It is a military organization with a primary focus on defense and security at sea. The Nigerian Navy performs various tasks, including combating piracy, conducting search and rescue operations, and ensuring the safety of Nigeria's maritime borders. It is responsible for national defense and operates under the Nigerian Ministry of Defense.

2. Merchant Navy: The Merchant Navy, on the other hand, refers to the commercial shipping industry of a country. It comprises civilian-crewed merchant vessels engaged in transportation of goods and passengers, both domestically and internationally. The Merchant Navy is primarily involved in trade, commercial activities, and maritime commerce. It plays a crucial role in global shipping, international trade, and logistics.

Key Differences:

a) Purpose: The Nigerian Navy primarily focuses on defense, security, and protecting Nigeria's maritime interests, while the Merchant Navy is mainly concerned with commercial shipping and international trade.

b) Authority: The Nigerian Navy operates as a military organization, authorized to enforce maritime laws within Nigeria's territorial waters, whereas the Merchant Navy operates under the jurisdiction and regulations of international conventions, as well as the laws of the country under which the ship is registered.

c) Personnel: The Nigerian Navy consists of military personnel trained for combat and security operations at sea. In contrast, the Merchant Navy employs civilian crew members, including seafarers such as deck officers, engineers, and support staff, who are responsible for the operation and maintenance of commercial vessels.

d) Training and Education: Nigerian Navy personnel undergo extensive military training, including combat skills, navigation, and maritime security protocols. Merchant Navy crew members receive training in specific maritime fields, including navigation, seamanship, engineering, and cargo handling, tailored towards commercial vessel operations.

e) Command Structure: The Nigerian Navy operates within a strict military hierarchy, with commissioned officers leading the force. In the Merchant Navy, authority and responsibilities onboard a commercial vessel are distributed among various ranks and roles, with the captain or master having overall command.

In summary, while both the Nigerian Navy and Merchant Navy are involved in maritime activities, their objectives, functions, personnel, and operational structures differ significantly. The Nigerian Navy serves as a naval military force responsible for defense and security, whereas the Merchant Navy is a civilian sector engaged in global trade and shipping.
