Just then, Charles call came in and we exchanged greetings.

"I need you to properly follow the instructions on the book bro, it's not easy but it's worth a trial.
Every marriage has its challenges, i faced mine too, but i was able to overcome by God's grace and mercy"

"I ain't got any other choice man, I'll give it a try"
I replied.
"That's my man, let's get your marriage and your love life restored. Let me know of the developments that happen as you progress" Charles said.

"I'll do that, Thanks again"
The call ended.

I heard a little sound of the door close but didn't really pay attention to it..

The first part of the book

Day One..

"Refrain from doing anything that will upset your partner or get them angry. Promote Peace for today"

The day was bright and beautiful, i woke up early, applied paste on my toothbrush and was about brushing when my wife woke up.

"Good morning" i greeted, but got no response from her.

i was furious!! Is this how she wants to continue? I nearly lost it, but i remembered the instruction for today.

Day 2

"When you get to work, Call your spouse to let them know you're thinking about them. this helps strengthen your bond and makes the him/her believe what you have is true.


JANET IN HER WORKPLACE


Phone rings...

"Hello"

Hello Janet, How are you doing? Joseph inquired

"Am fine, Joseph? she asked in a surprising tone.

"Yeah, i called to check on you"

"Why calling to check on me? did anybody tell you i was hurt?

"Is it a crime for me to check up on my wife?

I didn't reply him.

"Hope you're okay? Take care, see you at home" and he ended the call.

"What's this man up to? I thought, whether he likes it or not, am ending the marriage.

I heard footsteps approaching behind me.

"Hello Beautiful" a very familiar voice said.

"Hey there William, how are you doing today?

"Am okay, how about you? Williams replied.

"Same here" Janet said.

"I need your help on the list, Boss just put me in charge of compiling it, and i need someone with your skills to work with" Williams requested

"Hmm, Alright then. Let's get to work"

"Thank you so much"

Janet and William were more than just friends, He was gradually winning her from her husband.
But unknown to Janet, He was just using her for fun, no strings attached.

To her, he showed her much attention and care than her husband, she never knew she was going through a tough time in her marriage, like couples do, and she needed to remain steadfast.

"We still on for lunch today? Janet asked.

"Sure thing my dear, we are"

Day 3

"Show your spouse how much they mean to you by dropping a little gift for them, it must not be something expensive, but should be valuable"

I decided to do it like i used to do back in the university days


FLASHBACK

"That guy really loves you, just give him a chance" Janet's roommate Cynthia advised.

"I know girl, but am not yet ready to give my heart out to any man, who know what will happen? I want to be sure of what am doing?

"Trust me girl, he's not like all other guys, The best time to do something worthwhile is now, Okay you want another girl to snatch him away? For crying out loud this guy has been there for you, Just give him that chance" Cynthia reasoned with her.

Janet opened her notebook and saw a small note which wrote "To the angel that makes me smile all the time, I wish i could be with you right now, show the world how much you mean to me. I love you 5000.. From Joseph" Janet smiled a bit as she read it.

"Let me see" Cynthia snatched it from her and moved away a bit.
"No, bring it back" But Cynthia had already seen it
"Do you need a prophet to tell you this guy is mad for you, just be wasting time"


PRESENT DAY

I wrote a small note and dropped it in her handbag before i left for work.

I woke up by 6:30am the next day, cleaned up and dressed for work.
My wife on the other hand was still asleep as i checked on her in the bedroom.

I heaved out a sigh and grabbed my car keys, got to my car and drove out.
While i was driving out, the gateman of the compound waved me and asked if all was okay last night.
"Oga good morning oh!!

"Good morning Bulus" i responded weakly.

"Ah, oga Joseph hope all is well? I been dey hear loud voices from your side yesterday night"

"Don't worry bulus, all is well thank you"
I said and drove into the estate road where i was living in.
I couldn't take my mind off the events of yesterday night, though it wasn't the first time it was happening. I've had several fights with my wife.
After driving for about 50 minutes, i arrived at my workplace.

I greeted the security men at the gate and they responded by waving at me while opening it..

"Oh men, today is another day" I thought out aloud while arranging the documents at my table and brought out my laptop.

The door opened and one of my colleagues who is also a trusted friend in the office entered.

"Hey big man, Good morning" He greeted as he made his way to his position in the office.

I addressed him by his name

"Welcome Charles, trust you had a great night"

"Sure i did, how about you"

"Affirmative" i replied, looking closely at my laptop screen while working on some documents.

Charles dropped the files he was carrying.

"Hmm, this one you're so engrossed in your laptop, anything serious happening"

"I'll give you the details later bro, i gotta sort these out first"

"Alright then" Charles replied and relaxed on his chair.

"Hey man eat your food" Charles said to me while we were having lunch at a cafeteria close by.
"Hmmm, don't mind me"i replied feebly

"Talk to me bro, you've been moody since morning, what's the matter? He inquired

"Nothing serious bro, just my wife and I getting into our usual fights again"

"Damn, really sorry man, hope it's settled now?

"For now, no issue yet, We're cool.

"This issue had gotten way out of hand, Lord help us, we need to get a solution AQAP"
"What does "AQAP" mean again" i asked.
"Don't you get it? As quickly as possible" and we both chuckled.

Charles had been my major support and friend whenever i had issues with my wife.
He was someone i could rely on all the time. We met during our NYSC days, having been deployed to the same PPA to serve, and luckily we got employed there.

Before we closed for work that day, he gave me a book titled "how to get her back by Charles Johnson"
Charles never stopped amusing me.

"Yeah man, this is one of my masterpieces on getting your marriage back on track.
Do your best to follow it, and you'll never be disappointed. I'll always be here for you and I will be praying for you. You will definitely find that peace in your marriage again"

"Thanks, I'll put it to good use" i replied.

We shook hands and i went back to my car, and drove home.

When i got home, my wife was out, but there was some food in the pot, so i helped myself with it.

She came back around 7pm and saw me watching tv in the living room. She didn't even utter a word and she passed to the bedroom.

Who cares? I was focused on my movie.
After finishing the movie, i received a call from my Dad

"Good evening Dad" i greeted.

"Son, how are you doing? I had a bad dream last night about you, hope you're fine and how is Janet?

"We're okay Dad, just keep praying for us, how's mom?

"She's good, she sends her regards, I'll talk to you later, the Lord be with you guys"

"Bye Dad" and the call ended.

The truth was, I wasn't giving my wife attention like before, it drastically reduced. I focused more on other things than her, and it was bringing my marriage to a crash.

I drew farther away from praying and doing other things that will help my life.

"Lord help me as i start this journey to restore my marriage" i said and opened the book charles gave me earlier today

CHAPTER ONE

"Oh please, I've had enough of your trouble tonight, let me sleep peacefully"
I snapped back at my wife who was close to me on the bed.
"Fine then, have it your way, am already tired of this" she said almost sobbing.

I left our bedroom with a pillow and went to the living room to sleep.
Many thoughts ran through my mind before i slept.
Is this how i pictured my life to turn out?
Was one of the many questions that i asked myself. 5 Years into marriage, we had no issue, plus our love was deteriorating seriously.
I remember back when we were in university where i first met Janet my wife, the love was stronger than i ever imagined, but now, it is nothing to write home about.
"Will i ever get my marriage back on the right track" i asked looking up while on the living room sofa.
