God is God of plan and purpose. He does everything according to His timetable. For instance, the era we live in today is somewhere in God’s eternal plan for man. Ecclesiastes 3:1-11 clearly tells us that God has a set time for everything and that He follows His timetable and not that of man. Even when you have drawn up your timetable and want to squeeze God into it, do not be disappointed if He does not follow it. Going by His timetable, He is never too early or too late in any event. After the death of Lazarus and the Lord was sent for, the sisters of Lazarus were disappointed at the time He arrived, saying they wished He had been there earlier (John 11:20-24). To them He came late, but Jesus was on time going by Heaven’s timetable. Have you ever felt the Lord was late in intervening in a particular situation in your life? Were you disappointed? If you were, you can understand the mindset of Mary and Martha. But at the end of the day, their dead brother came back to life and God received a greater level of glory. A case of one stone killing two birds! http://www.theopenheavens.com/devotional/monday-26-march-is-he-really-late/

If you are born into a royal family, you receive a title immediately after birth. You will be a prince or princess depending on your sex. But if you are born into the house of a cleaner, or domestic help, you will only be called a baby. As it is in the physical so it is in the spiritual. http://www.theopenheavens.com/devotional/friday-23-march-heavenly-royalty/

Open Heavens Devotional : Friday 10 February – PAY THE PRICE TO BE RELEVANT The presence of the overflowing anointing of God in your life makes you not only blessed, but also a blessing. It is God’s will that the anointing in your life overflows to those around you. In 2 Kings 2:19-25, the anointing on Elisha brought an end to the barrenness and curse on Jericho. In the same vein, a very conspicuous reproach in the life of Naaman was dealt with. When Naaman came to Elisha, without leaving the confines of his house, the latter simply instructed that he should wash seven times in River Jordan and he would be healed of leprosy. Prior to that time, there was no record of anyone receiving healing after washing in the same river. It is therefore manifest that the river had no special healing powers. But as soon as the man of God spoke, the anointing left his mouth and empowered the river to deliver the healing. Is the anointing of God upon your life overflowing for the benefit of others? Open Heavens Devotional : Thursday 9 February – CONNECTING HELPERS An important lesson of life which must be understood in order to prosper is that: to succeed, you must connect with your divinely-ordained helpers. This can be seen in the story of Joseph. After his brothers sold him as a slave to the Ishmaelite, who took him to Egypt, God connected him with Potiphar so that Joseph could get the required training, especially in the area of leadership and resource management to prepare him for his destined position. If he had not gone through that experience in the house of Potiphar, Joseph would have had lots of difficulties when the time came to fulfil his destiny. God is a God of planning. Before He takes you to your final destination, He ensures you have been prepared. Ask Joseph, and he will tell you that his training was not easy. No true training is. Unfortunately, many people do not want to be trained. They don’t want to go through hardship, servitude, denials, hostilities, etc. yet, they want to get to the top. Open Heavens Devotional : Wednesday 8 February – ELIJAH AND THE ANOINTING Holiness is very important and key to being anointed. The secret of Elijah’s success in ministry was holiness and total obedience. He did not know how to argue with God and that is holiness. Today, many believers are still at loggerheads with the King of glory. When God wants them to sit, they say they want to stand. When He asks that offerings should be given cheerfully, they do it grudgingly. Do you know that the way you offer your gift before God has a way of affecting what you receive? If you give grudgingly, you will receive in like measure. The moment I discovered the need to live a holy life, my life took a positive and easy turn. Are you totally obedient to God? Open Heavens Devotional : Tuesday 7 February – NEEDLESS COMPARISON Life in the spirit is comparable to a journey, or a race. As you progress from point A to B, you will be certain of the grounds you have covered. But if you are carried away by the grounds you have covered, it may impede the completion of the journey. For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves: are not wise. 2 Corinthians 10:12 One common mistake people make is to compare the distance they have covered in their spiritual journey with that covered by others. It is wrong to compare yourself with someone else. We are gifted and wired differently. We have different divine assignments. We started at different times, were given different resources to accomplish our different tasks and we have different levels of commitment, passion and zeal in doing the work, so we will surely get different results. Open Heavens Devotional : Monday 6 February – EXTENDING MERCY God is faithful to His faithful children. You may ask: How long can God keep or deliver His faithful children? Hebrews 7:25 says: Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. He can keep His beloved children in any extremities and to the very end! Praise God! If you can be faithful to God and bring your children up in His ways, he promises to watch over their welfare even for generations, long after you are gone. Deuteronomy 5:10 says: And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments. Open Heavens Devotional : Sunday 5 February – IMPACTING LIVES? One area in which the anointing of God upon your life should overflow to others to meet their needs is mentoring. In 1 Samuel 22:1-2, while David was in the cave of Adullam, all kinds of problem-laden people gathered together under him and his anointing flowed to them. At the end of the day, their status changed and they became mighty men. One reason those jobless brethren are in your church is to receive anointing in mentoring that will deliver great jobs to them. Those social outcasts and non conformists (area boys) are in your church to benefit from the overflow of God’s anointing from your life. Your success would be measured to a large extent by the number of such lives changed under your ministry. If your ministry cannot impact lives for good, it’s either you are hoarding your anointing of your oil has run dry. How much impact are you having on the people God has placed under your watch? Open Heavens Devotional : Saturday 4 February – RESTORE BACKSLIDERS In previous studies we have seen that a good house fellowship should be a centre of healing, deliverance, provision and comfort for members and those around. Another important function of a house fellowship is that it should be a place for restoration of backsliders. When backsliders come to your house fellowship or you observe any around, the love, concern and effort they observe in the members should be able to win back their hearts to the Lord. A backslider cannot restore another backslider, hence Galatians 6:1-2 says, it is the duty of those who are strong and standing to restore the fallen. To do this and get results, a lot of care, caution, humility, patience and prayers will be required. Any time a believer backslides returning to his or her vomit, the kingdom of darkness turns God’s kingdom into a laughing stock. If you look around you, you will find many backsliders waiting for the right person to lead them back to the fold. How effective are you in doing this, or have you neglected them? Open Heavens Devotional : Friday 3 February – OVERFLOWING FRUITFULNESS The first command God gave to man was to be fruitful (Genesis 1:28). This is his will and it brings Him glory. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. John 15:8 Fruitfulness is expected of you because God has already given you the capacity to be fruitful. As you win souls monthly no matter how few, He will count you worthy for pruning so that you can move to the next level of bearing more fruit (John 15:2). But that is not the end of the story. What really gladdens God’s heart is when you bring forth much fruit. How fruitful are you? This year, everything standing between you and a higher level of fruitfulness shall give way in Jesus name. Open Heavens Devotional : Thursday 2 February – BENEFITS OF HIS PRESENCE Moses was ready to reject any promotion, progress or prosperity that was not backed up by God’s presence. Do everything you need to do and pay every price you need to pay for God to be with and remain with you. There are a whole lot of benefits from His presence. And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. And he said unto him, if thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. Exodus 33:14-15 Also, in Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus promises rest to those who come to Him. This rest is an all-encompassing rest. Are you burdened with a particular care? Is it turning your hairs grey before the time? What you need is the divine presence, for there is rest for you in God’s presence. If God is with you, it will show in the level of rest you enjoy. You cannot have Him with you and you remain troubled. Do you need true rest in every area of your life and ministry? Ask for God’s presence as never before. Open Heavens Devotional : Wednesday 1 February – ANOINTING SECURES THE ANOINTED One characteristic of God that He can never compromise is holiness. His holiness is so sure that he swears by it often, as it is in Amos 4:2 & Psalms 89:35. Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David. God is not just holy, He also wants us to be partakers of His Holiness (Hebrews 12:10b). But why is God so particular about us living a holy life? It is because He wants us to continually have fellowship with Him right here on earth and for that fellowship to continue when we see Him at the end. Our God is a holy God and He says in Hebrews 12:14, without holiness no one will see God. Before the advent of sin, man had no problems. Today, our Father desires that we live a life devoid of problems, hence the need for us to be holy. Living a life of holinesses also helps to establish our heart in Him thereby increasing the boldness of our faith. Open Heavens Devotional : Tuesday 31 January – BEYOND COMMAND Going by the experience of Jesus on the mount of Transfiguration, prayer is a key to encountering God’s glory, just as God can reach out to man, so also can man reach the invisible God in the place of fervent prayer, to the point of physical clothes changing form. Have you used this tool to access your desired change? To get the kind of result recorded in Luke 9:29, the Lord Jesus Christ first separated Himself from private and public ministry. His ministry entailed privately counselling a number of people and mentoring his disciples while ministering to lots more publicly, but He set all these aside temporarily in order to access a higher level of God’s presence. If you want God’s glory to transform you, you must be prepared to pay the price the Lord paid. A worker or minister, who cannot set aside all spiritual assignments in order to access God’s glory through fervent prayers, will soon meet with failure on these same assignments. It is wisdom to access His glory before embarking on or continuing a given task. Reaching for more of His glory amounts to telling God you cannot do it on your own, and showing Him how much you need Him. The one who does not care to reach for more of His glory is professing self-sufficiency. Read full devotional here http://www.theopenheavens.com/devotional/tuesday-31-january-beyond-command/ |
Open Heavens Devotional : Monday 30 January – SECURITY IN EVANGELISM Taking a quick look at the history of Philadelphia gives us an insight into the letter of the Lord to the church there. The word Philadelphia is from the Greek word ‘Philadelphos’ meaning brotherly love. This city was established as a missionary field of Greek culture to the neighbouring cities. One advantage that constantly worked against many of its inhabitants was its being sited in the midst of a plain of grape fruits. This gave them access to cheap wine and left many drunk in the morning. Philadelphia and other surrounding cities were subject to constant earthquakes thereby keeping residents ever on alert. The expense of repairs was constant. These conditions perhaps explain the state of members of this church (Revelations 3: . The church at Philadelphia was strong, vibrant and was missionary minded. When Mohammed and his followers invaded Asia Minor, an event that saw many churches falling away, the church in Philadelphia stayed together and remained strong. They refused to yield to the jihadists and insisted on remaining Christians. To this day, the church in Philadelphia is still standing.Read full devotional here http://www.theopenheavens.com/devotional/monday-30-january-security-in-evangelism/ |
Open Heavens Devotional : Sunday 29 January – WHERE IS THE OVERFLOW? Recently, I went to America and visited a book shop to buy some tapes. An American came and introduced himself to me and shook me. Immediately after the handshake, he asked: “What happened?” Unknown to me the man was suffering from pains on his hands and one of his legs but he observed that the pain had suddenly disappeared from both the hands and leg. As I moved further from there, the man began to ask those with me: “Who is this man?” Thereafter, he returned and asked for another handshake. This season, the anointing of God on you will spread to others. It is worth nothing that anointing is not just for the benefit of the anointed. God expects the anointing to overflow to others. An African adage says: When the eyes are full of water, they would drop on the nose. Do you know that the anointing can so overflow through you that you will become a mighty vessel in God’s hands? Open Heavens Devotional : Saturday 28 January – HOW COMFORTING? sides healing and deliverance, another benefit that can be derived from house fellowships by members is provision. A house fellowship should be a place of provision. Those who are hungry or thirsty should be able to come there and receive food. At the judgement of the nations, the Lord said He would tell those who took care of the poor that they did it to Him, and those who neglected the poor that it was Him they neglected (Matthew 25:31-40). If you attend a house fellowship, it would be easier to identify fellow members who have just one pair of shoes, or shirt or those who wear the same skirt repeatedly. Do not leave that brother or sister in that state. You must minister to that fellow according to your ability. It is easier to touch lives in a practical way through the house fellowship than in a large gathering. You could also assist those who cannot afford school fees, house rent, or who cannot find a means of livelihood. The house fellowship is a place of provision. To what extent are you using your surplus to fill up the lack in your brethren? Read full devotional here http://www.theopenheavens.com/devotional/saturday-28-january-how-comforting/ |
Open Heavens Devotional : Friday 27 January – BE A BLESSING The outpouring of God’s blessings upon you could start from a point where you receive just day to day provisions. From this, you could be moved to another level where you will be so blessed to the point of you being frightened (Deuteronomy 28:1-13). This was the experience of Peter. Having toiled for so long without catching any fish, the Lord gave him a net-breaking catch of fishes and he, and the people working with him were astonished. He was so shaken that the Lord had to personally tell him not to fear. This year, the Lord will so bless you that you will be embarrassed and afraid. The kind of blessing and breakthrough you never thought possible will come to you this season in the name of Jesus. Many years ago while I was still teaching in Ondo State, Nigeria, there was this colleague of mine who had four girls but wanted a boy at all cost. Then his wife became pregnant and delivered a set of twins – boys. This teacher friend of mine ran away from home because his salary could not take care of six children. This year, the blessing that will positively embarrass you will come your way. Read full devotional here http://www.theopenheavens.com/devotional/friday-27-january-be-a-blessing/ |
Open Heavens Devotional : Thursday 26 January – HIS PRESENCE If you must prosper, you cannot ignore having God’s presence. The presence of God brings prosperity like nothing else. Joseph prospered because of God’s presence (Genesis 39:2), and so did all the saints before us. Even the Lord Jesus Christ needed God’s presence in order to succeed in life and ministry (Acts 10:38). Beloved, you cannot do without God’s presence. Do you really want to prosper in life and ministry? Then what you need more than anything else is God’s presence in your life. When you are born again, you have the presence of God inside of you in some measure. But as you cultivate His friendship, relate with Him daily, praise and worship Him, feed on His Word and obey Him, that presence grows. You need the presence of God to deal with enemies and every situation or challenge that comes your way. The problems you can solve will be determined by the amount of God’s presence upon you. What level of God’s presence are you carrying? Read full devotional here http://www.theopenheavens.com/devotional/thursday-26-january-his-presence/ |
Open Heavens Devotional : Wednesday 25 January – HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM In the days after I received Christ into my heart, we had prayer time at the end of the sermon during Sunday service. We were free to pray as we liked. On saying the Lord’s Prayer, I would not know what to say next just after about five minutes. I would raise my head to see if anybody was standing, if none was standing, I would go over another five minutes prayer. Since I did not want to be first to stand up, I would stay where I was, enduring prayer time. But the day the Holy Spirit came upon me, the power of God took over my life. Now, I can pray for hours non stop. Have you received the baptism in the Holy Spirit? There is little you can do without Him. The Christian life will be a bore without Him. Christian service will be a thing to be endured, not enjoyed if you have not experienced the Holy Spirit baptism. The promise of the Spirit is yours. If you are born again, ask for the fullness of the Spirit on you. Ask in faith today and you will be filled with the Spirit. Open Heavens Devotional : Tuesday 24 January – PRAYER IS KEY For many Christians, having an experience like John’s encounter with the Lord in Revelation 1 : 1-18 would have been their ultimate. The quest to know Him would have terminated at that point. But the truth is, whatever level of glory you have experienced, there is yet something higher. When you encounter a level of God’s glory, don’t be satisfied because there is a higher level ahead of you. Never allow your present level be your terminal point! One person who almost made such mistake was prophet Jeremiah. He had a relationship with God and was privy to several of God’s thoughts and plans. He was made to see several revelations bothering on the past, present and even what would happen several hundreds of years to come. But just when he was thinking he had arrived, the Lord jolted him from his slumber, charging him to ask, because, there were yet many great secrets he was yet to know. Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. Open Heavens Devotional : Monday 23 January – STILL DRESSED IN WHITE? During the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, the saints shall be clothed in white robes (Revelations 19:7-9). A white robe is significant in many ways: it connotes festivities (Ecclesiastes 9:7-9). While speaking of eating and drinking, verse 8 says your dress must be white. This shows a correlation among certain variables i.e. between feasting, holiness and anointing. If you want to celebrate and remain anointed of God, your robe of righteousness must not be stained. Conversely, if your garment is soiled, your feast may soon end and your head will lack oil. Are things suddenly becoming so bad and unbearable? Find out if your garment is unspotted. It is possible that sin is the culprit. A particular minister of God who had been rising and falling over a period of time carefully observed that each time he is in sin, promises and prospects turn sour, and his hopes are dashed. Even after he made his ways right before God, it takes quite a while before things start responding in a positive manner. There is no gain in sin! Keep off from it. Open Heavens Devotional : Sunday 22 January – YOU CAN CREATE A new beginning is the time to create or initiate new things. The beginning is not a time to loaf about or procrastinate but the time for hard work. God and the Word are seen creating things in the beginning. All the things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John1:3 If you have no job, this is not the time to wake up by 12 noon. Get up and look for something legitimate to do. The Lord will make a way for you. Speak to your hands and say: ‘These hands shall not be empty. You shall prosper in a good work that will fetch me income’. Afterwards, prayerfully launch out. There are several opportunities around you. Some people are just too choosy. They look down on certain offers because of the small emolument or because the job is not prestigious enough. Stop it! God wants you to engage your hands. Start something before the end of this month. You may have a talent, an education or gift you can turn into an income-yielding business. Go ahead as long as the business is legitimate. Open Heavens Devotional : Saturday 21 January – TITHING Tithe is a tenth of your income or profit, which is entirely God’s share of every increase He gives to you. He asked specifically for a tenth and left the balance to us to decide how we want to spend it. The saints and patriarchs of old paid tithes and when Jesus came, He further threw His weight behind it. Tithe is an act of worship. It is a mark of your covenant with God. God does not expect tithe from unbelievers no matter how rich they are, but He requires it at the hands of all believers in Christ no matter how impoverished they are. Some people pay tithe on big incomes but fail to pay tithe on little ones. This is wrong. Pay tithe on all your income – big, medium and small. Even if you earn in kobos, cents or pennies, pay your tithe. Tithe both your main income and other smaller incomes. Pay tithe on the gifts you receive also. Never think that God does not know how to calculate. He knows it better than the greatest mathematician on earth.
