PRESS RELEASE The Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Hon. (Amb) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, has expressed deep sorrow and strong condemnation over the killing of a Tiv indigene in Obudu, following the recent unrest linked to the violent clash between the Mbazerem community of Vandiekya and the Abonkib village of Obudu. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Chairman described the incident as “barbaric, unfortunate and totally unacceptable act that threatens the peace and brotherhood we strive to uphold.” This comes on the heels of the disturbing news of two sons of Obudu Nicolas and Ake, both of Aboinkib and Atiekpe clans respectively, who have been declared missing in the aftermath of the recent communal clash. Hon. Undiandeye firmly condemned the retaliatory violence, stressing that taking the law into one’s hands is not the solution to the ongoing crisis. He called on all parties involved to exercise restraint and allow the constituted authorities to investigate and address the matter appropriately. “I deeply regret the loss of lives on both sides and extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Every life is valuable, and no act of violence can be justified. The cycle of revenge must stop,” the Chairman stated. Constitution Review: Obudu People Declare Unwavering Support for Creation of Ogoja State The people of Obudu Local Government Area have reaffirmed their collective and unwavering support for the creation of Ogoja State, describing it as a long-overdue move toward equity, accelerated development, and proper representation, particularly for the people of the Northern and parts of the Central Senatorial Districts of Cross River State. The declaration was made on the sidelines of the South-South Zonal Public Hearing on the Review of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), held at the Metropolitan Hotel, Calabar. The hearing was convened by the House of Representatives Committee on the Review of the Constitution and attracted stakeholders from Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom States, including federal lawmakers, state officials, traditional rulers, civil society groups, and other interest groups. Speaking to journalists, the Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. (Amb.) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, KSM, represented by one his SA , Mr Ufum Emmanuel, stressed that the agitation for Ogoja State is not a recent campaign but a historical demand rooted in years of marginalization and underdevelopment. “The creation of Ogoja State is a legitimate and long-standing aspiration. It will bring governance closer to the grassroots, ensure fairer allocation of resources, and fast-track development. This is a dream we have nurtured for decades, and we in Obudu are resolute and united in this cause,” he stated. Lending high-level government support to the cause, the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, Ph.D., who represented Governor Bassey Edet Otu at while receiving the committee in government house on Thursday, declared that "I will be the first to lose my job if Ogoja State is created. However, I am in support of the creation of the state because of the benefits and growth it will bring to the region." In a significant move to strengthen governance and development, the Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government, Hon. (Amb.) Signing the bye-Laws in his office on Monday, in the presence of the Leader of the Legislative Assembly, Hon. Samuel Eneji, the Clerk of the Chamber, Dr. Agabi Ferdinand, and other councillors, the Council Chairman Undiandeye praised the legislative arm for their diligence and proactive efforts in repositioning Obudu Local Government for effective governance. He emphasized that the new laws are designed to enhance administration, maintain social order, preserve cultural identity, and stimulate economic growth. “These bylaws are tailored to address pressing challenges in our communities, ranging from market regulation and consumer protection to revenue generation and cultural preservation. PRESS RELEASE STATEWIDE SANITATION: OBUDU COUNCIL CHAIRMAN URGES RESIDENTS TO PARTICIPATE The Obudu Local Government Council has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability by fully participating in the statewide sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, March 29, 2025. In line with the Cross River State Government’s directive, the Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. (Amb) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, (KSM), has called on all residents, business owners, and community leaders to take part in the exercise to achieve the shared goal of a cleaner and healthier Obudu. The sanitation exercise will take place from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, during which all residents are expected to clean their homes, business premises, streets, and public spaces. The initiative aims to promote environmental hygiene, prevent disease outbreaks, and promote a sustainable waste management culture. To ensure effective implementation of the exercise, the Obudu Local Government Council through the Supervisor for Environment and Sanitation has urged environmental health officers, sanitation task forces, and community leaders to oversee activities and ensure full compliance. Additionally, security personnel will be deployed to restrict unnecessary movement during the sanitation period, except for essential workers and emergency services. Undiandeye attended the funeral mass of the late Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Hon. (Chief) Abubakar Ewa, held in the deceased’s hometown of Wula, Boki Local Government Area. Following the burial, he joined the Deputy Governor, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, members of the State Executive Council, his colleagues, and other dignitaries for a reception at Olum Village, at the residence of Mr Obi Ayuk, a businessman and politician. *Sunday, March 2nd, 2025:* • Hon. Undiandeye participated in the inaugural meeting of the Central Working Committee of the Northern Cross River Coalition (NORTHCO), held at Landmark Hotel in Ogoja. The meeting brought together prominent sons and daughters of Cross River State’s northern senatorial district to discuss issues of development and unity. During the gathering, Hon. Undiandeye expressed his support for the coalition's initiatives, which included passing a vote of confidence in Governor Bassey Otu and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey. Obudu Council Chairman Undiandeye Appoints Local Government & Ward Sanitation Committees The Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. (Amb.) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, (KSM), has approved the constitution of both a Local Government and Ward Sanitation Committee to improve waste management, cleanliness, and environmental sustainability across the LGA. The committees are tasked with enforcing sanitation regulations, overseeing waste disposal systems, and maintaining cleanliness in urban and rural areas. They will also collaborate with community leaders, environmental health officers, and relevant government agencies to promote hygiene and public health at all levels. Announcing the appointments through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ikwen Atuaka, Hon. Undiandeye emphasized the urgency of tackling sanitation challenges, particularly as urbanization increases. He highlighted the committees' crucial role in ensuring a clean and healthy environment for residents. “These committees will be responsible for keeping our communities free from waste-related hazards. Their duties include enforcing sanitation laws, educating the public on proper waste disposal, and organizing regular clean-up exercises,” he stated. Cross River State Ranks No. 1 in Routine Immunization Coverage Nationwide Cross River State has been recognized as the top-performing state in routine immunization coverage across Nigeria, reaffirming its dedication to public health, child welfare, and a healthier future for all. This remarkable achievement was announced following the release of the latest National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) 2023-2024 report. The success is largely credited to the dedication and unwavering commitment of the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (CRSPHCDA), under the leadership of its dynamic Director General, Dr. Vivien Mesembe Otu. Commenting on this development, Dr. Vivien Otu attributed the accomplishment to the proactive health policies and strategic investments championed by Governor, Apostle Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, and his wife, Bishop (Mrs.) Eyoanwan Bassey Otu. Their initiatives have included significant investments in the health sector, such as the procurement of vaccines and the implementation of health policies that ensure no child is left out of immunization programs. She also commended the tireless efforts of healthcare workers, local government health teams, development partners, community-based organizations, and traditional and religious leaders for their unwavering dedication to improving immunization services throughout the state. Dr. Otu emphasized that the government remains committed to strengthening primary healthcare, expanding outreach programs, and ensuring the availability of vaccines in both urban and remote communities. Furthermore, she noted that Cross River State has set a new benchmark for routine immunization in Nigeria, serving as an inspiration for other states to follow. “This is not just a victory for Cross River State,” Dr. Otu remarked, “but a victory for public health across Nigeria.” Cross River State recorded the highest routine immunization (RI) coverage (95%) ahead of Lagos, Delta, Edo and the FCT, among other states.

YOUTH GROUP HONOURS OBUDU COUNCIL CHAIRMAN AS GRAND PATRON, CONFERS PEACE AMBASSADOR AWARD The Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. (Amb.) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, KSM, has been officially decorated as the Grand Patron of the National Association of Nigeria Ambassadors (NANYA) and conferred with the prestigious Ambassador of Peace Award in recognition of his outstanding leadership and dedication to youth development. The ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Chairman’s office, Obudu Local Government Secretariat, and was attended by representatives of the association, local government officials, and other stakeholders. Expressing his gratitude, Hon. Peter Undiandeye appreciated the association for the honor, reaffirming his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote youth development and nation-building. He encouraged young people to embrace hard work, innovation, and leadership, assuring them of his unwavering support in creating opportunities for growth and enhancing the socioeconomic well-being of the people of Obudu, particularly the youth. Earlier, the National President of NANYA, Comr. Amb. Jennifer Orgugua, praised Hon. Undiandeye for his outstanding leadership, youth inclusiveness, and commitment to the progress of young people. The Executive Chairman, Obudu local government area Hon. Peter Akonfe Undiandeye (KSM), today inaugurated the executive council of the local government. The epoch ceremony held at the Obudu Local Government council hall usher's in new hands to pilot the affairs of governance for his administration. Hon. Peter Akonfe Undiandeye (KSM), charged the newly inaugurated supervisors to uphold the trust put on them by their people and discharge their duties with the fear of God. "We must continue to grow Obudu in all ramifications and maintain peace for the progress of the society" . He called on all to support the supervisors in discharging their duties, adding that they were carefully selected to serve the people and achieve the "People first" agenda of the state government. The Paramount Ruler of Obudu local government HRM Utsu Felix Ukwudari thanked the chairman for the quick constitution of the executive council and noted that the administration is youth friendly to have incorporated many young men and women as supervisors and appointees in his administration. The royal father advised the supervisors to be up and doing so as not to disappoint the chairman. Chief Tony Undiandeye added that for a successful administration, all complains must be channeled to the executive chairman for quick action. The newly inaugurated supervisors are: 1. WORLD AIDS DAY: 1/12/2024 As Nigeria marks the world Aids day today 1st December 2024, The Executive Chairman Of Obudu Local Government Council Hon. Undiandeye Peter Akonfe, KSM commemorate in an event organized by the National Agency for the Control of Aids, NACA (Obudu Chapter). The Local Government coordinator, Mrs Aniah Margaret acknowledged the significant progress made over the years to fight against HIV/AIDS in Obudu. "We recognize the fact that there's still much work to be done. Stigmatization and discrimination continues to affect those living with HIV/AIDS, and new infections remains our concern" she said, admonishing all to follow this year's theme by Taking the Right Path. The Chairman who joined the programme at Sacred Heart Hospital Obudu, thanked the LACA coordinator for this great initiative. He charged everyone to embrace patients without sentiments or ill-will, and show empathy at all time. He further urge everyone to reduce stigma and undergo regular testing. Nigeria and Obudu in particular, aims to strengthen its response to the AIDS and achieve its goal of ending the virus in the near future. Obudu Chairman Re-Iterates Commitment To Campaign Promises The Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Hon. Peter Undiandeye last weekend reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to put the interest of the people first in all its programs, projects and activities. Sir Peter stated this during the reception organized by the Begiaba Community and Begiading Ward for his Special Adviser on Peace and Security, Mr. Emmanuel Ikem where he also averred that while leadership is difficult, the prayers and support of the people is what makes it easier. "It is not an easy task being in the helm of affairs, the path is actually a rough one and can only be trailed through continuous prayers from all of us," Hon. Undiandeye, represented by his spokesman, Mr. Ikwen Atuaka said. The Chairman appreciated the people of Begiaba community and Begiading ward, for their unquantifiable support during the course of the elections, stressing that the success of his "People First" agenda shall thus be achieved through continuous and unifying prayers from the community. Receiving their illustrious son, the Clan Head of Begiading Likwu, HRH Chief Samson Ogar poured libations and prayed for him, admonishing him to continue to be steadfast and loyalty. “You are an emissary of Peace, uphold this at all the time,” the monarch said. NATIONAL UNION OF ROAD TRANSPORT WORKERS (NURTW) OBUDU CHAPTER INAUGURATES NEW CHAIRMAN AND EXECUTIVES. The Obudu Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Cross River State, on Saturday, November 23rd, 2024, formally inaugurated its Chairman-elect, Comrade Joe Bitte, alongside other elected executive members. The inauguration followed a free and fair election held on November 19th, 2024, after which the union's Grand patron and other Patrons resolved to officially swear in the newly elected leadership team. In his farewell address, the outgoing Chairman, Comrade Martin Undie, urged the incoming Chairman to prioritize the union's best interests, emphasizing that "four years is not a long time." He added, "Life is turn by turn; my turn is over, and it’s now yours. Use it well."
