Massive protests rocked Oyo State on Monday as thousands of angry residents, teachers, students, and activists took to the streets over the worsening security crisis following the kidnapping of more than 46 pupils, students, and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.

The demonstrations, which brought parts of Ibadan and Ogbomoso to a standstill, have become one of the biggest public reactions yet to the shocking school abductions.

In Ibadan, protesters gathered in large numbers at Mokola Roundabout carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs before marching to the Agodi Secretariat and Government House.

But what many residents are asking is:

How could dozens of schoolchildren and teachers be kidnapped without a successful rescue operation weeks later?

The anger was equally visible in Ogbomoso, where protesters occupied major roads and demanded urgent government intervention.

Many demonstrators accused authorities of not doing enough to secure the release of the victims.

The protests also received strong support from teachers after the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Oyo State declared an indefinite strike, insisting that schools cannot continue operating under unsafe conditions.

Beyond insecurity, many protesters also expressed frustration over rising food prices, inflation, and the economic hardship affecting families across the state.

The demonstrations were reportedly led by groups including the Take-It-Back Movement, NANS, labour activists, and teachers' organisations.

While government officials have appealed for calm and assured residents that security agencies are working to rescue the victims, many protesters insist that words are no longer enough.

They are demanding immediate action and concrete results.
