PoliticsRe: Peter Obi Is A Political Party On His Own by yarimo(m): 11:43pm On May 30
And a serial loser on his own
FX:
Traditionally, Nigerian elections have been dominated by large parties such as All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which possess extensive political structures, governors, lawmakers, and grassroots networks.
However, during the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi demonstrated that a candidate's personal appeal can sometimes rival the influence of established party machinery. His candidacy substantially increased the visibility and electoral performance of the Labour Party.
The "Obidient" Movement
One major factor is the emergence of the "Obidient" movement—a large, enthusiastic grassroots support base, particularly among:
Young voters
Urban professionals
Many first-time voters
Nigerians in the diaspora
Many observers argue that a significant portion of these supporters were voting primarily for Obi rather than for the Labour Party itself.
Why Some Say He Is "A Party on His Own"
Supporters point to several factors:
Strong personal recognition nationwide.
A reputation for fiscal prudence from his time as governor.
Ability to attract voters who were previously disengaged from politics.
Strong social media presence and volunteer-driven campaigning.
Capacity to raise the profile of smaller political platforms.
In this sense, they argue that if Obi joins a smaller party, he can instantly make it nationally relevant.

The rise of Obi's movement highlighted an important shift in Nigerian politics: voters are increasingly willing to rally around a candidate's personal message and reputation rather than automatically following traditional party loyalties.
Whether that trend continues will depend on future elections, voter behavior, party organization, and the ability of political movements to transform enthusiasm into lasting political structures.
So when people say "Peter Obi is a political party on his own," they are essentially arguing that his personal political brand has become powerful enough to mobilize millions of supporters and elevate whichever party platform he chooses to contest under. That is a significant claim, though its true strength can only be fully tested in future elections.

AMB. Blessing Fubara Snr. Emerges Victorious In NDC Gubernatorial Primary In Opobo/Nkoro LGA

The Campaign Media Directorate of the Amb. Blessing Fubara Snr. Governorship Project has announced the victory of Amb. Blessing Fubara Snr. in the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) gubernatorial primary election held in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area.

According to the Directorate, the outcome of the primary election represents a strong vote of confidence in the leadership, vision, and development agenda of Amb. Blessing Fubara Snr., as delegates and party faithfuls overwhelmingly endorsed his aspiration.

"The people of Opobo/Nkoro have spoken clearly through this democratic process. This victory reflects the growing belief in Amb. Blessing Fubara Snr.'s capacity to provide purposeful leadership and deliver meaningful development across Rivers State," the Directorate stated.
The Directorate noted that the result further demonstrates the widespread support enjoyed by Amb. Fubara among party stakeholders, grassroots supporters, youths, women, elders, and community leaders within the local government area.

Reacting to the outcome, Amb. Blessing Fubara Snr. expressed gratitude to delegates and supporters for their confidence in his leadership.
"This victory belongs to the people. I am deeply humbled by the trust reposed in me and remain committed to serving Rivers State with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering focus on development and inclusive governance," he said.
The Campaign Media Directorate also commended the leadership of the Nigerian Democratic Congress for conducting what it described as a transparent, peaceful, and credible primary election process.

It further called on party members across the state to remain united and committed to the collective objective of securing victory for the NDC in the forthcoming governorship election.
The Directorate reaffirmed that Amb. Fubara remains committed to his S.P.H.E.R.E. development framework, which focuses on Security, Power, Health, Education, Rural Roads, and Empowerment as the key pillars for transforming Rivers State and improving the welfare of its people.

"The victory recorded in Opobo/Nkoro is more than an electoral success; it is a clear indication that the people are ready for visionary leadership, inclusive governance, and sustainable development. We appreciate the support of all stakeholders and assure them that this mandate will be honoured through service and commitment to the progress of Rivers State," the statement added.

The same NDC lulu Briggs was declared winner or how many NDC is in rivers state?
Emmalez:
The coast may getting clearer for top contender, Blessing Fubara to emerge as the governorship flag bearer of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Rivers state as the results so far collated show him leading in fifteen out of the 23 local government areas with wide margin

Four aspirants, including Blessing Fubara Snr. Dumo Lulu Briggs, Fafahdan Princewill and Mike Willy are in the race to seek the NDC ticket to contest the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State.

According to a statement issued Saturday by the Coalition of Obidient/Kwankwasiyya Movement primary election observer group, the election has been peaceful in Rivers state, while coalition is currently ongoing with Blessing Fubara showing a strong lead in about 15 LGAs

The observer group in the statement issued by George Brown, Hon. Victor F. Heart, and Shriff Farouk for the Obidient Movement, as well as Eric Koko, Ibiwari George Green and Mohammed Abdullahi for the Kwankwasiyya Movement, said the coalition, in its desire to ensure transparency in the NDC primary election across the country, dispatched its members across the country to follow and monitor the conduct of the primary election committee in the states with due diligence, adding that the conduct has been very peaceful and commendable in Rivers State.

The OK Movement therefore warned all aspirants to desist from taking the media spaces available to them to cause confusion and ridicule the smooth conduct of the primary election, warning that no individual should announce any illegal result or declare himself winner, while coalition of results is still ongoing, saying it is only the party-empowered election committee that has the right to do so

The group therefore urged the public and members of the NDC in Rivers state to ignore and disregard any primary election result that did not officially come from the party

The statement further commended the outcome of the NDC members at the various venues of the primary election in Rivers state, stressing that the huge number was an indication that the NDC will make a commendable statement in the state during the 2027 polls

According to the statement, "based on the results so far collated in 15 LGAs, Blessing Fubara Snr has shown a wide lead, over the other aspirants, but we are yet to get the final result and no individual including the aspirants or group is permitted to announced any result. The only authentic result will be declared by the primary election committee and the party after all results have been collated

"We therefore call on the aspirants and their supporters to desist from the ongoing social media declaration as no result has been declared yet in the Rivers NDC governorship primary elections. The committee is still at work.

"Some of the desperate aspirants are going contrary to the party’s desire by making unofficial declarations on social media outlets. This is not acceptable, as it amounts to putting the NDC like the other political parties which the party has taken serious steps to be different from

"The OK primary election observer group therefore warns all the aspirants in all the states to remove desperation and allow the election committees to do their party assigned duties diligently as directed by the NDC leadership"

The observer group similarly warned the members of the committee in Rivers and other states not to allow themselves to be used by desperate aspirants to compromise the outcome of the governorship primaries, as doing so will mean the NDC has not shown any difference with the other political parties it has distanced itself from

"They must be fair and transparent enough to ensure that the votes of the members who have shown serious commitment to the NDC, by coming out in their numbers to pick their candidate for the governorship election must count," the OK observer group warned
