@bro kunleee...would love to invite u to a thread I opened which i called "department of sociology". The thread is all about everything that encapsulate sociology..it is a thread where students of sociology and graduates of sociology share ideas about the concepts of sociology in particular and the course in general..criticisms are allowed, while assertions could be rejected if found abstract..welcome on board bro, looking forward to seeing u.

kunleee: can't remember the great karl marx said that..anyway its kind of funny qoute..how is the department now? Onabanjo still troubling you guys?
@bro..rilly elated that u re a sociologist cos am also a sociologist in view..and concerning ur question, the sun of OOU is rising again because social change has happened to the previous system and all subsystems av been working together for the betterment of d system as a whole..the department is doing great, as u know we d sociologists are d ones dominating the department(psychology/ILR)..if u knw mr Onabanjo, he became a Dr some weeks ago..likewise Mrs omoniyi, now a Dr too..but wouldn't knw why mr Aluko wanna remain a Mr..

EducationRe: Department Of Sociology....for Soc Students Only by Yaungdee(op): 7:13pm On May 10, 2013
What are those factors responsible for the emergence of sociology as a distinct discipline of science? Well in my opinion I will say the factors were majorly french revolution and the industrial revolution..though the industrial revolution was said to be the most anticipated, most prolonged and most executed revolution..but it could be regarded as a failed revolution.the reason is because the purpose for which the revolution happened still exist in the society..things like inequality, injustice, misery, terrorism and what av u..the industrial revolution ob the other hand was majorly an epoch wen the society moved from a traditional agricultural society to an industrialised system..in essence this means there were concentration of industries in the urban centres and people were able to move through the help of steam engines from rural(agriculture based centres) to urban( industrial areas) in search of roles in the industrial setup..this however brought about massive movement...so many workers were subjected to exploitation, underpayment, poor conditions of work and even child labour...people started to engage in all sort of social problems..prostitution, violence and d likes..it is worthy of note that right from the inception of sociology it has always focused on social order..infact it was the reason for it emergence...however it is important to note that Auguste Comte and herbert spencer are great thinkers that established the root of the discipline..Auguste comte gave method with which to study sociology..the scientific method..he was the founder of positivism.

I bow slighly for sociologists like me on this forum. This thread is mainly created to widen our knowledge about sociology as a course. Where we engage in argument that brings about wisdom and more deeper knowledge about the subject matter "sociology". Well I deem it neccessary to introduce my self at this point. My name is david, an undergraduate student of sociology, olabisi onabanjo university(OOU), 200l..I declare this thread opened!

I thought as much, u must be suffering from brain disorder..how does ur statement relate to the ongoing discussion? If u don't av tangible information to pass or contribution to make. Don't u tink keeping mute is better than fooling around? A typical product of a failed family unit..

My advice is go get a change of course and institution form from jamb or better still get it from deir authorised agents..mind u days are already counting this form would only be available for 2 weeks immediately after the release of jamb results...change ur oou to first choice for ur admission to be guarateed...gud luck!
EducationRe: OOU 2013/2014 Admission by Yaungdee(op): 7:24am On May 09, 2013
After specific cutoffs have been provided by the school for first choice indigenes and non-indigenes, and 2nd choice too...u can calculate 4 knw u re on safer side by dividing ur jamb score by 8 and adding the result to your postume score...jamb score 226/8(constant)=28.25 + 26(this may be ur postume score)=54.25 then use it to check for ur chances in department u put in for..gud luck
EducationRe: OOU 2013/2014 Admission by Yaungdee(op): 7:16am On May 09, 2013
Oluwacolded: thank you bro hope this my utme subjects combination is ok eng govt lit econs 4 psychology and do u knoW hoW oou do calculate their cutoff
Its ok if u av this three important subjects: maths, eng, biology plus any of the government, economics u av up dere...biology is important oooooo(C6 atleast)
EducationRe: OOU 2013/2014 Admission by Yaungdee(op): 7:12am On May 09, 2013
ORIENTATION: it is always gud to av knowledge of the course one is applying for and not merely applying for them becos ur friends or relatives did..u shud be able to knw if u can truly cope in the areas where d course specialises or covers..if u applied for ECONOMICS merely becos u like the name or ur friend did without knwing fully u must be good at calculations and not just mere calculations but rather pure and konk ones, Then u must be a joker...if u also applied for ACCOUNTING and u believe all u would offer is balancing mr A's data den u must be a dreamer cos this also involves some pure calculations but not as konk as the former..likewise BUS-ADMIN and BANKING & FINANCE..this are courses that involves calculation subjects, even though one may opine that wit the title of BUS-ADMIN its a course dat can be read only which does not involves calculations cos u will be borrowing courses that are inescapable...if u knw u re the type that is not good at calculations, but merely choosed this courses in the management science becos of their names or ur friends plz be wise in doing something about it...but if u knw u are good at reading, and can read a whole of a book or some chapters in it and fully understand it and d same time provide answers on it wen questions are being asked..then u can apply for admission in the following departments...SOCIOLOGY, POLSCIENCE, ILR, PHILOSOPHY, PSYCHOLOGY...though its worthy of note that no course, not one that is a cheap course. Neither am I usin this in anyway to discourage anyone against dere wish, but rather to give some clarifications on the mistakes we student make in applying for courses we hardly knw abt..we are of individual differences, while some could easily adjust to the change, it is very difficult for many and d latent function of this is carry ovas and weak GPs...be wise! Apply for change of course form now and carefully choose the course u knw u can perform and flourish better..Auguste Comte
EducationRe: OOU 2013/2014 Admission by Yaungdee(op): 6:35am On May 09, 2013
@oluwacoded..it is very imperative you av Biology in ur combinations, and not just an ordinary pass(E8 or D7), but rather atleast a credit pass in the subject(C6,C5,C4 and so on)...ur combinations must look like this...Maths, English, biology and any oda social science subjects like commerce, economics, government, agric science ETC..but if u don't av biology u can apply for courses like sociology, polscience, ilr, tpm, pub admin by merely getting a change of course form from jamb which would only be available for 2 weeks after d release of results..gud luck..Auguste Comte

Wealth2mighty: @Irewunmi,kip on d gud work, dear. Am also aspiring 4 OOU,SOCIOLOGY. Had 195 in my UTME,& I made it my second choice. Hv got ur number.
Wow am happy to read dz, am also in sociology 200 level, well as at last year the cut off was 180 pray its same dz year..my advice goes thus: plz kindly get the change of institution form to change OOU to first choice so as to be on a safer and if u re also an indigene its a plus for you..plz note that this form would be out for just "2 WEEKS" after release of jamb result which has already started to counting..plz do not hesitate to ask me questions about SOCIOLOGY...the only science of society...

obik adex: I scored 210 in utme nd i applied 4 medicine...i chose oou as my 1st choice nd i'm an indigen...how gud re my chances 2 gain admission....tanx in anticipatn
With the outcome of results wiv been seeing, u tried to av attained dat scored. Well as for the first choice issue u re covered, and again u re an indigene which makes it better...so all I will tell u is go prepare for ur postume and endeavor to attain 30/50 in postume cos medicine is competitive here..

If u knw u av an ordinary pass in mathematics(D7, E8) and applied for courses in the social science plz endeavour to buy a change of course form to choose courses in the humanities(philosophy, HDS, English, french, performing arts)..I advice this in other to avoid late movement of ur name to dz department wen it is discovered u don't av mathematics..u mite be unlucky and cud be moved some weeks to exam to a department u av no idea of..to be fore-warned is to be fore-armed..moreso it must be a pass(D7, E8) and not a fail o(F9)..

Am not sure of that but can actually get dat wen u come to buy the postume form...but mind u, u can be reading on ur own before u get d past question cos d questions are not alienated they are common ones..focus on areas like current affairs get the current one for 2013, den maths and english

My advice goes thus: go buy a change of institution form which would be available for just 2 weeks after the release of jamb result..change the OOU from second choice to first choice or even for better chances because of the course u applying for.. Then endeavor to score 25 and above in OOU postume den ur admission is guaranteed..gud luck
