Three people died in the helicopter crash which happened on Thursday night around the Federal University of Technology in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, the Nigerian military has said.

Boko Haram gunmen killed many people in an attack in the restive northeast, throwing explosives into residential homes and shooting dead civilians who tried to surrender, an official and witnesses said Friday.

At least 56 terrorists were said to have been killed in a major offensive at Alafa Forest in Borno at the week end, according to the Defence Headquarters (DHQ).
