In The early hours of today, body of a SARS official arrive at the office of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) Enugu state command that is located along Enugu-Onitsha Express road.

The SARS official whose name is withheld, was gun down in a military zone in Enugu when on patrol with his patrol team, It was said that the SARS man was shot 3 times as the first 2 bullets didn’t penetrate. The military personnel has been arrested.

Chelsea forward, Eden Hazard is waiting for a signal from Real Madrid before he decides on his future at Stamford Bridge, according to reports.



The Belgian has been seriously linked with a move to Madrid after last summer’s World Cup and has admitted in several interviews that a transfer to the Bernabeu is his dream.

However, Hazard is eternally grateful to his current club for everything they’ve done for him since his move from Lille six years ago, and he’s loving playing under his new manager, Maurizio Sarri.

The 27-year old has less than two years to run on his current contract at the club and Chelsea need to make a decision before the end of the season as they may prefer to cash in on their prized asset rather than allowing him to leave on a free transfer in 2020.

He said, “I met Temi in London. It was an event, her sister invited me for an event. Her sister was playing at the event, somewhere in Nightbridge and she said, oh come out come out, follow me to this event, so I followed her to the event and then she was deejaying and all of a sudden it was just me and Temi sitting down and just watching her.”

It is a sad time for family and friends of a Microbiology student of UNILAG after he allegedly killed himself.

A student of Microbiology from the University of Lagos has reportedly committed suicide after failing some of his courses.



The student identified simply as Niyi by one of his friends who was devastated by the news, while paying tribute to him, acknowledged that ‘school’ doesn’t necessarily determine your life and so, it’s not worth your life.

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has revealed how he escaped during the military clamp down on the group.


In an interview with Israeli TV Channel 1, Kanu said he was “smuggled out” of the country with the help of relatives.

IPOB was the target of a Nigerian Army operation code-named Operation Python Dance, launched in the South East.

While the group was banned, Kanu went out of public glare until two weeks ago, when a video of him in Israel resurfaced on social media.

In the interview, Kanu alleged that 28 persons were killed during the army operation, which was largely felt around his father’s residence in Umuahia, Abia State.

“When I came out (of prison), I continued to preach to my people and continued to practise my Jewish religion.

“And, one day, the Nigerian army came to my house to kill me. They killed 28 people in their attempt to kill me.

“My people evacuated me before they came to my bedroom. They took me away and smuggled me out of Nigeria.

“I needed some time to recover, which I did and, then, had to make my way to Israel.”

The IPOB leader added that he feels “relieved” that he “managed to make it” to Israel, “the only place I feel safe in the world.”

Stoke City striker Saido Berahino has become the father of three babies from three different women in the last six weeks.

The Burundian footballer, who has only scored one goal in more than 900 days, has been registered in the Civil Registry as the father of his baby, born on May 30 from his ex-fiance Stephania Christoforo.

Meanwhile, his second baby, who was born on July 17, is from his relationship with model Chelsea Lovelace (causing his break-up with Stephania) and for which he has also been registered as a father.

According to the newspaper ‘The Sun’, Berahino’s lawyer is in negotiations with a young nurse who also claims Berahino is the father of her son, who was born on July 15.

A 28-year-old woman, Oluchi Mba, residing in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has allegedly sold her seven-day-old baby boy for N350,000.

Mba took the decision in a bid to raise money to celebrate this year’s Christmas, which is three months away.

A source, who pleaded anonymity, told Southern City News on Tuesday that the woman was boasting about how she would have a fun-filled Christmas this year, before she was arrested.
“We were together one Sunday and she was boasting about how she would celebrate this year’s Christmas in grand style.

“I told her that it was too early to plan for Christmas now, but she kept on boasting and saying she would want to have fun during the season. I didn’t know she was planning to sell her own child. This is terrible,” the source stated.

Mba reportedly sold the baby to a 55-year-old , Edith Obiakor, of Akudo Street in Nkpor.
Obiakor, it was gathered, resold the baby to her in-law, one Vitus Aniunoh, 50, of Patterson Street, Fegge in Onitsha for N650,000.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.

He said the suspects had been arrested, adding that the baby had been recovered.

“Following intelligence report, police detectives attached to Ogidi division arrested one Oluchi Mba, aged 28, of Ikenga in Ogidi.

“The suspect confessed to have sold her seven-day-old baby, which she earlier claimed was a stillborn, to one Edith Obiakor, aged 55, of Akudo Street in Nkpor for the sum of N350,000, paid into her account.”

Mohammed said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.

According to a study published in the British Journal of General Practice, an astounding 80% of parents claim that their children had normal weight when they were actually obese.

A reliable way of telling if your child is actually overweight or obese is by calculating their individual body mass index (BMI). BMI measures the body weight in relation to height. BMI calculators utilize a formula that generates a score which is used to classify the owner into obese, overweight, normal weight or underweight.
The BMI for children and teenagers is categorized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) using a metric called percentile. Below are the different BMI percentile ranges and what it means.
5th to 84th percentile: healthy weight
85th to 94th percentile: overweight
95th to 99.99th percentile: obese
Although the usefulness of BMI in determining child obesity has been well established, quite a number of parents still fail in using this approach to identify obesity in their children. If you’re in that category, here are a few signs that will help you to suspect a weight problem in your kids:
When they look physically bigger than the other kids in their class
When they wear clothes that are too large for their age
When they eat the same quantity (or higher) of food as adults
When they get easily exhausted from physical exercise
When they detest balanced diets but crave junk foods
When they enjoy watching TV for over three hours per day
When they are always hungry
If you observe any of these features in your child, then taking him or her to your local pediatrician for examination would be a wise course of action.

Causes of childhood obesity
Childhood obesity can be caused by a number of factors including lifestyle, psychological issues and family history. However, the major causes of obesity can be narrowed down to just two issues – eating too much and not exercising enough.
Below are more specific causes of childhood obesity.
1. Genetic potential
The phrase “like father, like son” and “like mother, like daughter” is certainly not a myth when it comes to body weight. There’s a strong genetic factor in obesity, therefore, children whose parents are obese are more likely to have weight problems than children whose parents are lean. [3]
That said, obesity is not totally predetermined. Although genes play an important role, the things you eat (or don’t eat) play a more important role in determining which genes get expressed, including the gene responsible for obesity.
2. Junk-food addiction
The ready availability of ultra-processed (junk) foods has played no small role in increasing the incidence of obesity – especially in children. These high-fat, sugar-sweetened junk foods are designed to last long and taste so good that it’ll be almost impossible to resist.
Unfortunately, study after study has exposed this as a major cause of food addiction in both children and adults.[4] Junk foods stimulate the brain’s reward centers, resulting in an insatiable craving for more.
[5] And once your kid gets addicted to junk foods, obesity is almost inevitable.
3. Insulin resistance
Insulin is an important hormone that controls energy storage. In simple terms, it is responsible for telling fat cells to store more fat and that, of course, results in weight gain. When kids eat junk foods, the excessive caloric content encourages insulin resistance by increasing insulin levels in the body and this results in more energy being stored as fat.

While different research studies on the effect of insulin on childhood obesity come up with controversial results, several studies have revealed a consistent correlation between high level of insulin and development of obesity. [7] To deal with the insulin problem, increase fiber intake in your child’s diet and reduce refined sugars .[8]
4. Inadequate exercising
The role of proper exercising in maintaining a healthy weight is indispensable because physical exercise helps to burn calories, which results in fat loss. [9] Unfortunately many kids don’t get enough daily physical exercise and that results in the development of weight problems.
Uncontrolled access to TV and video games also play a huge role in reducing the extent of physical exercise that kids have access to. If this situation is left uncontrolled, it will greatly increase the chances of your child becoming overweight or obese.
The serious effect of childhood obesity
Childhood obesity tends to have very serious implications on the health and social life of kids. Here are a few of them:
1. Increased risk of type-2 diabetes
Children who are overweight or obese have a higher chance of developing type-2 diabetes. [10] Type-2 diabetes occurs when the body is unable to properly metabolize glucose and it can lead to several other problems such as nerve damage, kidney dysfunction and eye disease.
