If you asked us to name his achievements we would. Just siddon. True lagosians aren't ingrate. 1. Obasanjo regime didn't remit anything into the account of Lagos State when the FG generate the highest IGR from lagos, but with the help of Jagaban, he was able to call in people from different field and Lagos State was able to survive the turbulence without owning the public servant a single month. (Hope you understand that) Other state Governors even testify that no other state could achieve that stride in Nigeria. 2. The creation of LCDA. I believe you are aware that with the creation of LCDA, governance touched every part of Lagos State. No area felt neglected, since every area are being represented at the HoA 3. The creation of different progressive agency e.g LASTMA, LAWMA ETC 4. Hope you are aware Lagos State already have a plan till 2050 and beyond which his administration laid out and was been followed by consistent Governors like Fashola, Ambode and Sanwo Olu 5. During his administration Lagos State citizens benefited free education from Pry to higher institution. 6. Rule of Law 7. Policy that favour investors and SMEs. If not your brothers from the other side of the Niger rivers won't be migrating in troops to do business here. 8. In the history of Nigeria, he was the only Governor who all his Commissioners and S.As cut across the 36 States in Nigeria. Kindly tell other Governors to imitate this. 9. He believes in meritocracy than mediocracy. Now look at every body who worked closely with him as a Governor. They all become something they never ever think they themselves will become. 10. Your people (Including your father that ran for greener pasture to lagos) are shouting Lagos is no mans' land. When we allow you do business peacefully, we allow your people to be represented in both the executive and legislative arm of Lagos government (A classica example is Hon Jude Chekuemeka). Whenever there is disagreement between the two tribe, Baba will still release a memo commanding all Yorubas in Lagos to be friendly, peaceful and accommodating. |
As a lady, you can never understand the joy men receive when the third leg received cool breeze... |
Nice write up. I really love this |
THE LEADERSHIP OF CONGRESS OF NIGERIAN YOUTH (CONYO) DISTRIBUTE FACEMASKS TO SECURITY AGENCIES IN SOUTHWEST Each new generation is reared by the predecessor; the later must therefore improve in its successor. The movement is circular. Emile Durkheim Congress of Nigerian Youths (CONYO) is the umbrella body for all progressive Nigerian Youths who are exceptionally focus with mission to sustain new generation ideology in line with 21st century. We are active young men and women that are repute, dedicated and committed to selfless service to change public orientation and perspective on anechoic mentalities of old generation such as religion bigotry, tribal sentiment, corruption, moral decadence, indiscipline, social class, discrepancy among other rampant vices among the Youths for a promising and brighter future for sustainable unity, peace and development of Nigeria. CONYO has been in existence over some decades which was then led by Late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, this association remains the second largest youth movement in Nigeria. The organization is also saddled with the responsibilities of agitating for qualitative education for Nigerian youths, promoting unity, leadership development and protecting the rights of Nigerian youths. The leadership of CONYO also contributes to nation building through social empowerment, job empowerment and sensitization programs to the youths. Series of programs had been held in the past but recently during this pandemic period, the leadership of the organization organize an outreach which is tagged "Giving Back to the Society". The first phase of the outreach involved the distributions of food items to the students and youths while the second phase involved the distributions of food packages to the less privileged, the widows/widowers, the disabled and the elderly people above 70years. The third phase of the outreach which kick started few weeks ago involves the distribution of face masks to over 350 police divisions and indegenous security agencies across the Southwestern part of Nigeria. The Nigeria police force is also one of the leading and front line agency whose impact during this pandemic period can not be eradicated. As an organization, we believe in safety and protection of life and property We believe together we can fight and overcome this period together. We also use this medium to advice all Nigerians to follow the lay down rules as the Federal government continue to relax the lockdown. By: Adetunji Abdulkabir Adeyinka Brain. Secretary, conyo

“What is destroying this
country is money-politics.”
Babatunde Adedotun Taiwo.
As the good people of Osun are
preparing to go to the poll next
year,there’re many contenders running
for the Guber race, young and old, among
them is Mr Babatunde Adedotun Taiwo,a
member of the All Progressive Congress
( APC),a business tycoon based in
China.Akomolafe Samuel Taiwo brings
excerpts
TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF?
I’m Babatunde Adedotun Taiwo. I was
born in Nigeria on the 2nd of June 1974.
I hail from Apomu in Isokan Local
Government, State of Osun. I attended
St. Clares’ Nursery and primary school, in
Osogbo and I attended Osogbo Grammar
School and later to polytechnic of Ibadan
and the Federal School of Surveying in
Oyo. I am a graduate of Land Surveying &
Geoinformatics.
WHAT ARE YOUR POLITICAL
ANTECEDENTS?
When you asked for my political
antecedents, I didn’t feel comfortable,
because this is one of the problems
we’re facing in the employment circle.
Just like when you’re asking of ten years
of experience from a fresh graduate.
Anyway, I’ve been into politics during my
school days, and if you would agree with
me, the politics that we played in
campus is greater than the public
politics, because that’s where we build
our political traits. I was the President of
many associations while in school even
at the faculty level. I once contested as
a presidential aspirants of my Student
Union Government(SUG) in school,
though I didn’t win. But, Olympics is not
about winning, it’s about participating. I
started politics during the time of the
Alliance for Democracy (A.D) as a party,
that time, I contested for the post of
Councilor in my Local Government area
and I was actively involved in politics in
my domain.
So, when you talk about antecedent, I
think it’s about training yourself and
leaning the democratic procedures of
doing things. And to the glory of God,
I’ve been into business for several years.
I’ve managed a conglomerate of
business, for over fifteen years. So, I
think I have what it takes as an individual
to contest.
BUT DON’T YOU THINK THAT AVERAGE
CITIZENS WOULD WANT TO KNOW
WHETHER YOU’VE HANDLED SOME
PUBLIC OFFICES AND HOW POPULAR
YOU ARE BEFOR THEY SUPPORT YOU ?
Thank you for that question. But the
question we need to ask is this, what
have we gained from those that have the
political experiences? What has been the
achievement? What have they been able
to deliver to us as dividends of
democracy? I don’t ride on any man’s
shoulder, the almighty God is my god –
father. I stand to say it anywhere, God is
my god – father. I believe in those things
I’ve seen and that are worthy of
emulation. Though, I have mentors, but
the best among them is my father who
was once a Vice Chairman and the
Executive Chairman of our Local
government. So, my father had trained
me and also gave me enough guidance
that could be of help to me in my
aspiration.
YOU CAN’T TALK OF POLITICS IN
NIGERIA WITHOUT GOD-FATHERS.WILL
YOU VALUE NEGOTIATION WITH THE
GOD – FATHERS TOWARDS THE
ATTAINMENT OF POWER?
When you talk of liasing with them, it’s
something that’s very important. You
share views and aspirations of people of
like-minds that identify with what you
carry. I think god-fatherism should have
no basis in Nigeria politics, we should
rather consider what the candidates have
for the people. What is destroying this
country is money-politics, and that’s our
major problem. Nobody cares what
manifesto you have to deliver to people,
all that they care about is what you have
to dole out to people. I have to make it
clear that I’m not a money-bag
statesman, I have what it takes to govern
the state and take it to a greater height.
When you talk of god-fatherlism, I don’t
buy into that, don’t get me wrong, liasing
with people is very essential. I have my
dream, vision and mission. Working with
the people at the grass root and
reasoning with them is more important. I
can now say that we’re in the era of
geeting the right peg in the right hole
gradually. So, the issue of anointed
candidate should be out of it. My party,
All progressive congress (APC) had an
anointed candidate but never won the
bye-election in Osun West Senatorial
district. We need to stop misleading
people by rubbing people’s hand with
money.
YOU’RE 43 YEARS OLD, WHAT IS LURING
YOU INTO POLITICS IN A SYSTEM
WHERE GERONTOCRACY HAS BECOME
THE ORDER OF THE DAY?
You can’t sit on the fence and make a
difference, you can’t stay outside without
your involvement and make any change.
To the glory of God, I started business
when I was 28years, I know what it takes
to run business. I’ve mingled with people
of my age bracket and I know what
they’re clamouring for. I left Nigeria at
the age of 28 for international business
and I’m still in it till today. I’ve travelled
to about 25 countries, great countries in
the world, and I know what is obtainable
in those countries. I’ve seen young men
at 26, doing legitimate businesses, having
good life style that is not obtainable here
in Nigeria. So, nobody is pushing me, I’ve
seen it and I’ve seen it all. I know where
to start from and I know where we
should be. So, the problem we are facing
is inconsistency. Inconsistency in the
sense that our leaders trick us to go with
them, they used us and dump us. The
population of Nigerian youths is 68% and
the total voting strength is 63%, but
we’ve been used and dumped. This’s my
own motivating factor; to emancipate us
, to let us know what right we have in
Nigeria. It’s just recently that the youths
are getting to know that you can hire and
fire. Before, they believed the moment
you hire, that’s the end of it.But, we can
hire and fire!
IF YOU EVENTUALLY WIN THE GUBER
RACE COME 2018, WHAT ARE THE
PRACTICAL MEASURES OR PLANS
YOU’VE BUILT TO CHANGE THE
ORIENTATION OF PEOPLE AND
TRANSFORM THE STATE?
You see the basic problem we have is
unemployment among the youths. if
you’re able to get everybody engaged, or
larger percentage of the youth then every
other thing would be in place. When you
have no job, you’re idle, obviously, the
devil will dine and wine with you. If you
wake up in the morning and you have a
place to go where you earn for a living,
when would you have time for vices? You
have job, you resume at work early in the
morning and leave in the afternoon, tell
me, how would you have time for
rubbish? Every year, we produce
graduates even though most of our
graduates are half – baked so far you
can rub the lecturer’s palm. There’re
areas we really need to look into. I was
discussing with some medical Doctors
sometime ago, they said the government
is not paying the salary, so they’re
protesting. I called some of them and I
told them, ninety percent of you medical
doctors, you have your private clinics,
you’ve rendered government hospitals
useless. When Patients get to the
government hospitals, you refer them to
your own hospitals, and you get double
money that ought to accrue to the
government account. Something that
doesn’t cost more than 10,000 in
government hospitals, you would re –
direct them to your clinics and collect
huge amount of money from them. A lot
of people would prefer to go to private
hospitals in Osun State, and the same set
of doctors in the private hospitals are
also the ones in public hospitals. So, I
asked, how would government generate
more money to pay salary? If we really
want to do the right thing in the right
way ,if you’re a civil servant as a medical
doctor, you shouldn’t be allowed to run a
private hospital and if you want to do so
,then, quit government job and face your
business. This and many others are the
loopholes we need to consider, which I
will surely address. At this juncture, I will
like to say this to anybody who cares to
listen, I’m not a desperate man and I’m
not a conventional politician. I’m a
technocrat .I see it the way I see it!
HOW WILL YOU TACKLE
UNEMPLOYEMENT WHICH IS A MAJOR
PROBLEM IN THE NATION,WILL YOU
ENCOURAGE WHITE-COLLAR JOB?
No, I won’t! You see, in an environment
that has gone into decay, it’s always a
step by step. We can’t help the people of
the state, particularly, the youths, by
introducing government job to them.
What is even white about the collar? The
problem we face in this country is that
we feel too much of ourselves. If a man
is carrying certificate around with what
the global economy is saying right now,
that man may die of hunger. You don’t
need to put your egg in one basket. We
need diversification in this nation. Go to
Canada, China, Australia and other
developed nations, you would see what is
happening there.And another thing is
that,we are too much of ourselves.I
dressed well today due to the prior
notice you gave me about your coming ,
if you have seen me on an ordinary day
here, it’s either you see me doing one or
two things,it could be a dirty job, even in
my office. And by God’s grace, I’m not
poor and I’m not hungry.I’m into
importation , exportation and
manufacturing. My company in China
produces fan that is using solar power,
that works 24/7,including other products.
WHY DON’T YOU BRING SUCH A
COMPANY DOWN TO OSUN?
The problem is this, when I met the
people that can lead me to Mr. Governor
on this issue, they were demanding for 5
million,10million etc..So, why do I need
to give bribe when I had the intension to
help my people? I can’t do it!
IF YOU DON’T WIN THIS ELECTION,WILL
YOU STILL RECONTEST?
By God’s grace, I’m the next Governor in
the State of Osun and you will be there. I
don’t think defeat. But, if I don’t win, by
the time the tenure of the person that
wins ends,I will be 49years,a time when
my son will be preparing to graduate in
the university, I think I will leave it to
the younger generation. I once said
something, that, I don’t want to be
remembered for too long, because,
wherever a champion doesn’t leave a
stage, new ones will not emerge. In a
nutshell, if I lose in the election, I will go
back to my business.
WHAT’S YOUR TAKE ABOUT THE
INCOMPETENCY IN LEADERSHIP WHICH
HAS SAVAGED NIGERIA AS A NATION?
The plight is incompetency of character
and capacity building; the best man to
do the job never get it. You hear people
saying,“He’s our child, allow him to do
it.”Until we overcome that…the nation
would continue to revolve in mediocrity
and we can’t afford that any more.
